Is there any way to debug the external AS file as i dont want to use "trace".I have an idea to use the input text field the check the variable/function is working right but this is not enough so is there any process in AS2 or AS3.

I am trying to style the Alert window on an external file but I get the following warning and the style won't be applied, keep in mind that the Alert is being called from an external AS file as well so the code is not embedded in the MXML.

I have an html form within a flash site. The form is php processed. fix the php file so that after processing the form, the php returns the user to the flash page and reloads the html form. I tried a window.location in the php to send to the page but that did not work. It results in a white rectangle within the html code area (maybe frame but I'm not sure). How can I get just that html form reloaded? I do not want to load the entire page using a URL because that is too slow and I cannot replicate the flash state. BTW, below is a stripped down version of the code to simplify.

View 2 RepliesI have an AS2 Flash SWF that is calling another AS2 Flash File using loadMovieNum("flash.swf",2) and a JavaScript file that calls a function on page using a timer. This is what I get in Firefox with Flash 10 (IE8 gives no error message):

What is going wrong? I can't see a problem. It is suppose to clear the contents of the embedded swf and use a Flash alert dialog to confirm Yes or No.

I am creating the database features and testing them using online browsers.What I want to know is that some alerts I am getting a 'prevent this message from multiple dialogues' message on the alert but this is because of the browsers. But if the application is on flex and flash builder (I don't know which one is where the app is stored coz I have never used it) then will that message appear on some alerts in that software or is it only on browsers?[code]

However if I uncomment and run the alert first. I get no error and it works perfectly.My first thought was that the alert was buying time until the script could execute, so i tried to run the script inside a setTimeout() but did not work.
My Flex application is successfully calling functions in a JavaScript file through the ExternalInterface class when these are in the bin-debug folder and the JS file is located in the same directory as the Flex app.But when I test the Flex app on the server, it is not interacting with the JavaScript. The only difference I can find is that on the remote server the JS file is being pulled in from a URL, instead of locally. The JS file URL is in the same domain as the Flex application, therefore I don't think this is a cross-domain issue. What am I missing?
View 2 RepliesI am having an issue where I show an AlertBox message when the user hits ENTER and the focus is in a text area. The pop up works fine, but when the user hits enter the Alert closes as expected, but the TextArea listener receives the ENTER event from the Alert and pops the dialog up again. I have tried a number of ways to catch and eat the event but so far I have not been lucky. Is there way to accomplish this?

I'm loading from my main page an external js file, with a function.
I have a flash file in the main page invoking the javascript function.
Everything worked very well until when the javascript code was in the main file, but when I moved javascript to an external file the function seems not called anymore.
So... there is no way to move the javascript code to an external file ? Or any other solution ?

Is there any way to embed Flash completely in HTML, without reference to an external SWF file? I ask because I would like to send an HTML file as an email attachment that the recipient will open in a browser and fill out as a form. The last step is that they will copy the result to their clipboard, paste it into a new message, and email it back. I cannot reliably copy to the clipboard with JavaScript because of the security issues, but there are simple Flash apps to add that capability.
I know I could just display the response text (which will be Base64 encoded) to the recipient and have them copy/paste, but it would be nice to provide this small convenience to them. Also, so you are aware, the text is often too large to include in an email using mailto. Yes. This needs to be done via email. The users have slow, occasional satellite email access and no other data connection to the interwebs. To make things worse, I cannot make them install anything. It is a difficult situation.

View 2 RepliesWhen I first downloaded Flash CS3 Professional, I was able to enter an exceedingly useful debug mode by compiling using ctrl+shift+enter instead of ctrl+enter. I could toggle break points, step in, step over and view values stored in variables at a whim.
I must have accidentally toggled some option somewhere, because this interface no longer shows up. Instead, the only extra interface I get is the output menu with the following text "Attemping to launch and connect to Player using URL <file path> [SWF] <file path> - 71984 bytes after decompression" and while the swf does halt if the as3 code reaches a break point, it doesn't tell me which break point nor give me any options to progress the flow (not even through the pull down menu I have to utilize in order to end the so called debug session).
I'm trying to make a popup alert modal window thing with an external class. I have a simple swf set up with just some random sample text, a rectangle, and a button. What I want to happen is for the "alert" class to initialize upon startup of the swf and then when I click the button (instance: btn), the alert will show up. If I get rid of all AS in the swf and set alert as the document class, it shows up just fine, so I think it should be working, but for some reason I get this instead when I try the button function:

I have a swf that I need to attach the flex builder debugger to. I have full access to the source code, and can make a debug build of this swf.
However, this swf is being loaded by a non-debug build of another swf which I don't have source code to, and can't make a debug build with.
I've tried mocking this up with two very simple swfs, and while it works fine when both are debug builds, when the outer swf is a non-debug build, while I can get the debugger to connect, I don't get trace messages, breakpoints don't work, and it seems to lock up the flash app.
I have flash installed on my mac 10.6.7 and it's version is 11.1.102.55 (Non-debug).How do i convert it into debug.

View 1 RepliesI'm currently using FlashBuilder to edit ActionScript 3.0 class files. I can't run the debugger in Flash Builder because the classes are actually built around the Flash Authoring Tool. Flash Auth Tool has a lousy debugger (IMO) and it only allows breakpoints for inline Timeline scripting.
So basically I'm stuck without a debugger (that can use breakpoints).How can I start using the Flash Builder debugger, while sticking to the .fla environment?Or... how can I convert my .fla file into something Flash Builder can use (some MXML perhaps?)
I have an as3 game that I am trying to debug. To do this, I allow the game to play itself repeatedly over-night (which generates information for around 500k games) and then I analyze the info in the morning. I would like to save the debug info to a text file instead of using trace statements. Currently, the game creates about ten strings per play which are printed to the screen. Is there an easy way to save these strings to a text file?

Then I assume it will be faster if I can declare functions in the javascript code in the HTML document in the first use of externalinterface.call funtion ; if flash code calls the javascript code repeatedly. So let me ask you how to do that. For details , any javascript to be loaded is unknown in design time and I can not prepare a javascript file to be loaded.
