ActionScript 3.0 :: Keyboard Events Do Not Fire In Debug Movie
Jul 9, 2010I have some keyboard events that work fine when I "test move" however when I debug the movie the keyboard events don't seem to fire.

View 3 RepliesI have 2 scenes. In both scenes, I have a movie clip that moves via keyboard control. If the goto next scene is triggered by the movie clip in the first scene the keyboard control works in the second. However, if I use a button to move to the next scene then there isn't any control over the movieclip in that scene. I've traced the keyCode in the second scene and it is picked up but the switch statement doesn't run. I'm migrating to Actionscript 3.0 and updating something I created in 2.0. I would like to do it without writing a class.

I'm looking for a way to "inject" some events into a flash movie running on a browser. I know about ActionScript's ExternalInterface.addCallback function, however I'm trying to achieve this with any "random" flash from the web. Eg. send a "SPACE" keyboard event to a youtube video.
View 4 Repliesclick once on the screen with your mouse and then you can control the man with arrow keys on your keyboard.i can't figure out why the man turns back to the right if he is facing left if you press the up or down arrow. this is one of my first scripts,it's not set up right here is the code:
Code:
function rightKey(yourEvent:KeyboardEvent):void {
if (yourEvent.keyCode==Keyboard.RIGHT) {

Here is my codes

this one has got me stumped. I want an object to move 10 pixels every time a key is pressed, and I don't want it to keep moving when the key is held down.And I want to know why it moves once, and then waits a bit before moving more. I do not see why anyone would want it to do that!!!
View 1 RepliesThe keyBoard event listeners call on the rotate and unrotate functions and based on the key inputs(A and D) will implement either of the functions and rotate the image or return it to the original upright position. However, I haven't been able to get the function to work. When I press the A or D keys on the keyboard nothing happens. I even put trace() in one of the functions to see if the function will even be implemented but I don't get anything. I put in my Scripts below. Why are the functions not working? Do the eventlisteners fire or are there conflicts?[code]...
View 1 RepliesI am making a custom scrolling list (smart phone like) in actionscript 3 and have the parent contianer catch mouseEvents for MOUSE_UP and MOUSE_ DOWN.Sometimes the mouse up event is missed, maybe one in 20. Does this happen if the events fire to rapidly? I do not want to use the MOUSE_ CLICK event beacuse if the mouse pointer moved at all I want the list to scroll and not catch a Click event.[code]Can I somehow ensure that all events are fired?Or if not can I somehow get mouse button states directly from flash? Not via the mouse event object, but in onEnterFrame().
View 3 RepliesIs it possible to display the Soft Keyboard when debugging using ADL? If I use the existing properties I still don't see it. I want to check if my layout looks well when the Soft Keyboard appears, but for some reason I don't see it coming in ADL (Adobe Debug Launcher). I don't have a tablet to test it on for now so that isn't a solution. I don't see the soft keyboard or doesn't it exist in ADL?
View 1 RepliesI've never needed it until today but I just found out that the alt key doesn't fire it's own keypress events. I need a way to detect when that key get's pressed - any ideas out there?

not that I especially need those but how can I rely on netStreamEvents if I dont know which is or isnt going to be fired....
I use a LocalConnection object to prevent being able to run our SWF multiple times on the same computer. The problem is that this connection can remain in place even when the SWF which called it closes.
I have:
1) An External Interface call to dispose() all HTML pages call dispose() on pageunload which closes the connection.... But this is unreliable because if the browser crashes, you are locked out of the SWF
2) I tried some crazy try/catch. If SWF A exists and SWF B tries to be initialised.... SWFB cannot connect so it sends a function to SWFA to dispose(). This should free the connection for SWFB to connect to? But this does not work well either because sometimes a localconnection can be in use but calling "dipose()" throws an error, often because the LocalConnection swf which should be available is already gone.
What this all comes down to, is that I need a way to detect when the player closes, so i can close the localconnection.
stage.addEventListener(Event.EXIT, onExit);
function onExit(e:Event): void
{
if (localconnection)

I have an instance of URLLoader that works perfectly on my machine and a number of other machines, but in a few rare cases, regardless of the browser or the flash player version, URLLoader never comes back with any of my callbacks and so the load() method is fired off into the stratosphere and nothing happens beyond that.Curious if anyone else has encountered this and if so how they got around it.[EDIT]Ok... never mind on the "no callbacks are fired". In fact it is firing the SecurityError.SECURITY_ERROR. However, I'm at a total loss as to why it would only fire this on some machines and not on others. Does it have something to do with the user's admin privileges or the browser's security settings? The error is 2170, phaseTwo (whatever that means)
View 3 RepliesThe empty space of a canvas does not fire events. My problem is I have a canvas in an application that shows a diagram consisting of different figures, but the canvas empty places do not trigger the events that I need, as the rollover. How I can make my canvas trigger events even in the empty spaces? I have set the background Color, mouseEnabled, color, border, alpha, opaqueBackground, etc, and nothing works. I'm using Flex 4, and I have to use only a mx:Canvas.
Here is the event listener registration:
canDiagram.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, function(event:MouseEvent):void{if(actualCursor != null){CursorManager.setCursor(actualCursor,2,-10,-10);}},true);
canDiagram.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, function(event:MouseEvent):void{CursorManager.removeAllCursors();},true);
i'm trying to make a scrollable box, when a mouse enters and STAYS on "wrapper"'s area, "pubsBox" moves 10 pixels to the left.
<mx:Canvas id="wrapper" height="80" width="750">
<mx:HBox id="pubsBox" horizontalGap="10" height="80" width="100%" />
</mx:Canvas>
My problem is that I'm not sure how to make the MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER work, to recognize that the mouse is still ON the area and so pubsBox should continue to move 10 pixels to the left every second. I understand that i have to use a Timer, but what I'm concerned about is the fact that I can't get Flex to recognize that the mouse is still OVER "wrapper" and continue firing the event.
I don't mind if any answers are AS2 or AS3 solutions, just curious really - seems weird that I couldn't find out how to do this really quickly.

Test mode works fine ( except for full screen of course).
Seems to work fine on the local machine using Safari 3.2.3
However if I try to run it locally using firefox it does not work.I need it to run on a laptop but it does not always acknowledge the keyboard events and while in full screen it never responds to the keyboard events.Laptop is running Safari 3.2.1

I was looking at this game called "Tsunami Fighter" (if you google it, it'll be the first thing that pops upI can't post links sadly) which is a keyboard mashing game. Basically you have to mash a certain keyboard button as fast as possible to stop the rage bar from reaching the top. I tried some things that I thought would work,
How would I script the keyboard mashing part of this game (The part where you have to keep a greater keyboardclicks/second than the rising bar You'll know what im talking about if you play the game. I'm not really concerned at the score or the graphics just the keyboard event thing.
I created an E-learning project for a customer that has pages that require the user to make keyboard entries. When the user enters a specific letter, the page progresses. The pages work as expected until the customer places the project in a 'wrapper' that controls the navigation. When this is done, the user can make the keyboard entries, but now the page will not progress to the next section. It seems that the wrapper is stopping the system from detecting that the specific letter is pressed.
View 7 Replieswhy the swf does not catch any keyboard events? When i Ctrl+Enter my .fla there is a message appearing that says: "Your content will not stream. Runtime Shared Library (RSL) preloading will require all of your content to download before the first frame will play. To prevent this you can change the Runtime Shared Library Library Settings in the Advanced ActionScript 3.0 Settings dialog which can be raised from the Public Settings dialog. The Runtime Shared Libraries being preloaded are: textLayout_1.0..........."
View 17 RepliesI am adding a key listener to my AIR application like so:
<mx:WindowedApplication
xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
keyDown="onKeyDown(event)">
Yet only sometimes when I press keys does it actually invoke. I have no clue why, I thought maybe something else has focus. Well I cannot add key listeners to NativeWindow or NativeApplication, and I would assume if it is on the WindowedApplication which is the root element, that as long as my application has focus the key presses should invoke the listener.
is it true that keyboard events can not be accessed outside of the stage on non display objects?
example:
package
{
//Imports
import flash.events.EventDispatcher;
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;
[Code].....
here i would like to initialize a new TestClass() then press a on the keyboard to receive the output Test Class: a.
I have a key.addlistener setup to listen to key events.What I want to be able to do is to dispatch key events by for example a mouse click or just on load. I've tried a lot of possible solutions such as dispatchEvent with type as "onKeyDown" and "keyDown" etc.... but key listener simply do not treat it as a keyboard event.
Code: Select allvar eventObj = new Object();
eventObj.type = "keyDown";
eventObj.code = 13;
eventObj.ascii = 'e';
dispatchEvent(eventObj);
seem to have trouble getting a keyboard event within a class to work, I have an ENTER_FRAME event which works fine, but the keyboard event never gets called.[code]
View 2 RepliesIs there way to navigate to various buttons on a stage using only the keyboard? I have several movies (complete with cover art) on my Flash stage. I want to convert them into buttons so that anytime a user navigates to that button and presses enter, it will take them to a new frame (where I will have information about that particular movie). I know how to do this with Mouse clicks. But, this application requires users to use arrow keys in order to navigate and not the mouse.
View 3 RepliesI finally found a way to exactly position my External SWF on the main stage. Here is the Actionscript I placed on an empty layer:

currently learning AS3 and having a bit of trouble with keyboard events. I feel like I understand how they work, but something about my implementation is faulty. This is basically the code I currently have, and I can't find an error in it based on tutorials and such that I've looked up:
Code:
package {
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent
[code]....
I want my animation to STOP when I press SPACE, and then PLAY when I press SHIFT. This needs to be in AS3. The only catch is that my whole animation is composed of 5 Scenes. Would this be a problem? Also, I'm confused as to where I should add the code. I have it in a class and it still doesnt work. I tried putting it on the 1st frame on Scene 1.
