ActionScript 3.0 :: Loader Info In Custom Class?
Nov 10, 2009
I'm trying to use a custom class to create a mosaic type of gallery, and load jpegs in which some may have different dimensions. I'm using the Loader Class and I can get the content width value of the jpegs I'm loading, but I'm having trouble adding that value to the property of the (custom) object. Here is the Class:
package {
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;

Actionscript Code:
myLoader.load(new URLRequest(event.target.name + ".swf"));
How can I add a custom preloader to this?

I've been trying to create a simple loader class that loads an image file onto the stage.
Writing the code to perform the task is simple via the main timeline:
Code:
var picloader:Loader
picloader = new Loader()
picloader.load(new URLRequest("photo/1.jpg"))
[Code]....
How should I write the class such that it performs this function? Ideally I would like to specify the file I want to load eg. loadimage("photo/1.jpg") when I run the method.

I have a question regarding custom classes. I have created one named HrollBtns with a some scale and alpha roll over behaviors. When I load a jpg using a loader obj. Can I dynamically assign this custom class to the loader? If I had to do this loading an object from the library ...I would first assign the custom class through the linkage prop inspector and then simply add the Child(with my class behaviours) to the stage. Loading external files dont know how to do it...

I've been trying to figure this out for the past couple of days and couldn't find a solution and Im sure its something I have completely overlooked on my part. I'm attempting to load in an external swf in my fla file using this custom loader class I created. I keep receiving this error in an attempt to load the swf, which is in the same directory as my fla file that is loading it:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter url must be non-null.
at flash.display::Loader/_load()
at flash.display::Loader/load()
at com.proj.load::SWFLoadClass()
at test_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
Code from SWFLoadClass.as:
package com.proj.load {
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
[Code] .....
Code in fla file:
import com.proj.load.SWFLoadClass;
var l:SWFLoadClass = new SWFLoadClass("colorPicker.swf", 0, 0);
addChild(l);

I'm creating a custom class to retrieve some data using URLoader.My code is below, doing this from memory, plz ignore any minor typos.The challenge I'm encountering: when my custom class calls the loader, the event handler takes over. At which point the context of my code leaves the function and it's not clear to me how I then return the data retrieved by the loader. I sense that I'm breaking the rules of how ActionScript really runs by putting a loader in a separate class; at least, that's my primitive understanding based upon the reading I've done on this.So can I do this? I am trying to create a clean separation of concerns in my program so that my main program doesn't get clogged up with code concerned with retrieving remote data.

This simple code:
var loa:Loader = new Loader();
loa.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT, onLoaderInit);
loa.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaderComplete);
loa.loadBytes(someByteArray);
Sometimes works, but mostly doesn't. Neither 'onLoaderInit' nor 'onLoaderComplete' fire.
'someByteArray' is always a valid ByteArray, stored in a local SharedObject

my page contains a Loader to load the different parts of the site as swf but i also have a little intro, witch ist a .flv file. i knwo i cant load a .flv file in the loader class so i can put it into a swf an load it this way. the thing ist, after the intro is completed my page should get the info to change
1. a var which will change the proberties of the loader
2. the color of the Header/Footer
3. initialize a little x tweening with the body
is there a way to get the onLoadComplete info out of the swf witch contains the flv file or do i have to change the loader to a flvplayback component and afterwards back to a loader
and if i have to do so - how do i implement the flvplayback component into my .as file -i tried it and i always get the message, that he cant find the class.

I watched the very useful Custom Panel Extension tutorial. But the tutorial doesn't show how to get data such as info about my current selection back to my custom panel. MMExecute seems like a one way street.
Specifically, I want to display a selection's X and Y position in the custom panel. How do I call fl.getDocumentDOM().getSelectionRect() in such a way that the results are accessible to the panel?

I am new to AS3, as well as Flash in general, so forgive me if this seems highly elementary. All I am trying to do is create a custom class that extends the MovieClip class and contains a custom property of "marker". I want to be able to use and change the value of this custom property on the timeline for an instance of this class and have it behave just like any other (Ex: this.x ==> this.marker).

I have a custom class being constructed from my main class. In the custom class it has another custom class that is passed in as a parameter. I would like to strictly type the parameter variable but when I do, 'the type is not a compile type constant etc'.This, I understand, is because the custom class used as a parameter has not yet been constructed.It all works when I use the variable type ( * ) to type the parameter.I suspect this is a design flaw, in that I am using an incorrect design pattern.It is actually hand-me-down code, having received a large project from someone else who is not entirely familiar with oop concepts and design patterns.
I have considered using a dummy constructor for the parametered class in my main class but the passed in class also takes a custom class (itself with a parametered constructor). I am considering using ... (rest) so that the custom classes' parameters are optional.Is there any other way to control the order of construction of classes? Would the rest variables work?edit)in main.as within the constructor or another function
var parameter1:customclass2;
customclass1(parameter1);
in customclass1 constructor:

This is my first time working with a class attached to a movieclip that is nested inside a class attached to a movie clip.I've tested all the properties and methods of PTListItem.as and they work properly but when I try to call them on the list item through PTListTop.as it returns undefined.The end goal is to dynamically load a checklist via a txt file.

I have the following situation:I have an event handler, that displays small messages in my application's statusbar.These messages get passes through by dispatching events from custom components.A simple message could be like "HTTP Error" or so.Now, the main event listener, in the main application file, listens to the event dispatched by any custom component,but seems to refuse listening to events dispatched by custom AS classes.Here is my code for the custom event:
package main.events
{
import flash.events.Event;[code]..
So to sum it all up:
- The event listener listens to the custom event dispatched by any custom component.
- The event listener does not listen to the custom event duspatched by an AS class.
Those who wonder, the event really gets dispatched, that's why I added a trace call.

i have backdoor ways of getting info from other classes, but they seem to be far too long. So I am trying to do something different.. Imagine two entirely separate classes. The classes only extend MovieClip, and don't know about one another. What is the best way for them to know of eachother, without extending one another.
I thought it was interfaces, so I made an interface, and tried to send information from classA to classB within the interface. So, I had classA set the implemented interface variable to "21" and was trying to get that information on from classB, by implementing the same interface, and rather than setting, classB is getting. It didn't work. Where am I going wrong? Do I not need to use an interface?

I want to have a custom class tempSelection with a Dictionary as a public accessable property of that class. If I use this code, the compiler tells me:
1046: Typ wurde nicht gefunden oder war keine Kompilierungszeit- onstante:Dictionary
Which translates to:
Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Dictionary

I need several different scrollpanes in the site, one of which is a typical thumbnail gallery that uses XML to load the thumbnail images and displays full-size images & text when thumbnails are clicked. With a Lynda tutorial I was able to write the appropriate code and use the canned scrollpane in Flash, but even after changing some of the properties I really don't like how it looks. I found another tutorial [URL] that shows a scrollpane I like better (after some modifications), and I've got it working perfectly elsewhere on the site. How I can integrate the XML code I've already written into this new scrollpane so I can replace the canned one?
I'm using Flash CS4/AS3
Macbook Pro
This is the code for the canned one with all the XML:
var titleArray:Array = new Array();
var descriptionArray:Array = new Array();
var largeimageArray:Array = new Array();
var thumbimageArray:Array = new Array();
var imageNum:Number=0;

Through searching the various forums I have found that Loaders are not dynamic and hence you can not apply custom properties to each instance of them. I miss the old way (as2 way of attachingMovieClip) that you load dynamic content, at least you can apply custom properties, and you can always reference them for each object.
What I'm trying to do is load a group of Images via XML. Each one of those images have a set of information that is associated with them (name, description, etc). I have the images loading in and positioning just fine, however when trying to have a tooltip show the name on Mouse Over, I'm not able to achieve this...
In short. I want to be able to store information for each item so that I can access it. Is there a way to do this in AS3 with a Loader or is there another route I can go? If I do this with Arrays, how do I store the Index of the specific item so I can use that in reference to the position in each array?

I have some scrolling content (info). I've also made my own scroll bar.I want the scrollBar dragger to be positioned in relation to the info._y as the user scrolls info.I have created two vars: one that worsk out where info._y is as a percentage and the other that works out where the scroll._y dragger should be as a percentage...
Actionscript Code:
var scrollBarPercent = Math.round(scrollBar.dragger._y / [code]........
also onMouseWheel working too.I need a small bit of code that takes the % of info._y and moves the scrollBar dragger to the same % but in relation to the Stage.height...so if projectGalleryPercent = 50%, make dragger._y 50% of Stage.height using scrollBarPercent.

I have a Main class (which extends Sprite) that adds my Loader as a child. The Loader processes a continuous stream of images from a server (think MJPEG). I create a socket, add a ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA listener, and put the data into a local buffer. If I have a complete frame, then I call loadBytes() on it, and go back to waiting for the next chunk of data to arrive.
This works very well. However, if the mouse is moving when the image is being updated, then the control flickers slightly. But if no frames are being received, then there is no flickering. Do I need to double-buffer the image? If so, where do I do this? The Loader doesn't seem like the right place.

If I have a Document class that extends MovieClip, and I want to use it as the basis for another Document class, is it possible to create a subclass that extends the main document class and use that for a different FLA?
For example,
fla1.fla has a document class of MyMainClass:
public class MyMainClass extends MovieClip
fla2.fla has a document class of MySubClass:
public class MySubClass extends MyMainClass
I've tried, but now I'm getting errors that all of my variables that reference stage instances aren't being found.
