I have a dynamic text box on my flash page called homepageText I've been able to import text from a .txt file into the Dynamic Text box and that's fine, but I want to be able to format certain parts of the text, like making parts bold/italic, adding links, adding images and all those things to the point flash will allow.
View 1 RepliesNovice in actionscript and have a problem loading an html file combined with a css stylesheet into a dynamic text field. I have 2 pages... 1st page always loads correctly but second page all you see the text fields is "undefined". When I view local machine all is well until I load onto server and for the first page of my site all is well but for the second page I receive "undefined" in the dynamic text field... This only happens the first time. When I click through the different pages('undefined', 'undefined', 'undefined'..) and return to the previous ones the text suddenly is displayed correctly! I have read elsewhere that I need to wait for the LoadVars onload command to finnish but I am at a loss to fix this...

I want to import an html file that contains just plain tet inside of a dynamic text box. The things that I have tried jus tmake the html file pop-up as a new page, but i want the information inside of that textbox.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to use a dynamic text field to pull in html text that contains a bulleted list. Easy enough, that works. But the bullets dont take on the color assigned to the field. I've tried putting it in the html text and also using NewTextFormat and neither work. Can someone help me. This should be a simple fix, but I can't find it... I just want my text and bullets to both be white.

I am using a dynamic text field to show html formatted text from .txt files. I have set the html property both in the properties panel and in AS, and it mostly works. All html formatting show up just fine, except for when "&" is used. Flash CS3 documentation indicates that & is supported, so.? All text after the & does not appear: the only text loaded is that that comes before it. I am using CS3, AS2, publishing in Flash Player 9. Sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere, but I've had no luck with my searches.

I'm building this flash site for a friend and he wants to be able to edit the contents and maintain the site by himself later on. So naturally, I used a dynamic text field that uses URLloader to link to an external html, dandy. Problem is, my friend wants to use dreamweaver to edit the contents of html (or even just a word document exported as html) and it's just driving him nuts because the text look nothing like that way it did in DW when it's loaded into the dynamic text field (extra spacing and line break popping up randomly everywhere). Is there an alternative solution other then telling him to just edit it in notepad? What if I switch over to XML?
View 2 RepliesI can't get the code to "know" which of the dynamic thumbnails has been clicked (by "know", I mean return an index value, say 0 through 7 if there are 8 projects, that I can use to access that particular project in the array of 8 projects in the rest of the code)... So if the third movieclip thumbnail were clicked, I'd like "2" to come up somehow... I've tried this code, which is kind of lame, I know, based off of the idea of each of the thumbnail movieclips' names ending in their index number:

Lastly, there's a dynamic textfield I'm trying to create that never shows up for some reason. Again, you could see in the FLA (in the "createDrawer" function around line 424).
1. I added a text box to my frame, set it to Dynamic Text, then clicked "Render Text as HTML".
2. If I type <div>Test</div> into the text box and hit Ctrl-Enter, it displays the text "<div>Test</div>"
3. Same thing if I enter <a href="#">Test</a>
The text is not rendered as HTML...
Tried importing an XML into the Dynamic Text box: same results. Tried HTMLEncoding the values as <div> and it says <div>.
Perhaps the "Render Text as HTML" means HTMLencoding. Anyone know how to set it to "render the HTML tags"?

I have one dynamic text field called "content_txt"
I have 3 buttons with 3 different instance names (btn1 btn2 btn3)
I have 3 text documents in a folder (1.txt 2.txt 3.txt)
I am able to have 1.txt loaded into content_txt, but here is the problem.
I would like btn2 to load 2.txt and btn3 to load 3.txt into content_txt.
I have looked for an answer for this problem (and found many close answers) but when I try and make my code fit, it just doesn't work. I'm really new to this so any help would be amazing. (or if this has been answered somewhere else and I have missed it..

When a user enters the website, it will pull text from some location (possibly an XML file) and load it into a text field. The trick is that I want it to randomly load a different chunk of text in each time the user opens the site. There are about 25 different small pieces of text I want to randomly load.

I am making a learning system where a user selects a "lesson" from a list of lessons.I currently have a lesson read from a txt file and loaded into a dynamic text box depending on what lesson the user selected. View 3 RepliesI've done this dozens of time before but for some reason any new dynamic text boxes I make will not properly render the HTML in them even with the HTML control turned on.
I'm using CS3 with Actionscript 3, targeting player 9. I've tried AS 2, and different players all to no avail. I've tried embedding fonts, and not embedding fonts with no change in behavior noticed. I do want to use AS 3 (and wrote a bunch of code for it in a different file already), but even in a new empty file I'm still seeing this behavior.

Is there a way to type HTML directly into a TextField in Flash CS4? I've created a TextField on the stage, set it to dynamic, set "Render text as HTML" and thought that I could then type HTML directly into the TextField and that it would be rendered as such. Instead it displays whatever HTML I type as regular text.
I assume then that the only way to get HTML into one of these fields is to dynamically load it into the TextField through the htmlText property. Is this right? And if so, what exactly is the purpose of having a "Render text as HTML" button in the first place? Couldn't I just load the HTML into the TextField through the htmlText property anyways?
Well, at any rate, I was really hoping to use as much of the flash interface for the project I'm working on, such that anyone who didn't know AS3 could easily update it themselves. Now it's looking like not only will they have to know AS3 and HTML, but also have to deal with the hassle of formatting what will potentially be a complex system of images, textfields, and videos all in AS3 with no visual interface.
Is it too much to ask to be able to just highlight some text and make it bold or italic? That's really all I need, sadly.
I'm able to use a .txt file with basic html elements inside to display correctly. But I now have a structured document done in ms word. If I copy the html and try to save as a .txt file it will only allow to be saved as .rtfis there a way to preserve all the font, breaks and styles from a doc saved in .rtf or can I do this in a different way.

This all, however, has to be in Flash, as the website I'm working on it one .swf movie. I am very inexperienced in working with CS4/Actionscript and even less experienced in HTML
