ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading HTML And CSS Into Dynamic Text Field Caused "undefined" Error

Oct 21, 2007

Novice in actionscript and have a problem loading an html file combined with a css stylesheet into a dynamic text field. I have 2 pages... 1st page always loads correctly but second page all you see the text fields is "undefined". When I view local machine all is well until I load onto server and for the first page of my site all is well but for the second page I receive "undefined" in the dynamic text field... This only happens the first time. When I click through the different pages('undefined', 'undefined', 'undefined'..) and return to the previous ones the text suddenly is displayed correctly! I have read elsewhere that I need to wait for the LoadVars onload command to finnish but I am at a loss to fix this...

Code:

var myVars:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
var styles = new TextField.StyleSheet();
var txt_url = "booking.htm";

XML Loading Variable Location?

Jun 15, 2010

I have been working with xml sheets to load a menu and in order to load a submenu or to go to a submenu of a submenu, I was wondering if it is possible to load a variable location for an xml.

For example, if I had the variable xmllocation which was a string that said where in an xml a certain menu was, is it possible to use the xmllocation variable for something like this:

( if xml.xmllocation.length() > 0 ) do something;

whenever I tried messing around with it, it would actually go to look for "xmllocation" in the xml instead of check what the string is. So what I guess I am really asking is, is there a way to tell it not to be so literal?

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML Read From Dynamic Or Web Location

Jan 23, 2009

I am working on a site which uses a flash menu I was handed. The flash menu uses an xml file to generate, it works fine as long as one stays at the top-level dir of the site, say [URL]. When someone enters a page, say [URL] the menu stops working, being unable to read the xml which is hardcoded to be in the same directory as the page it's called from (menu.xml is in /).

I must say that the locations visible to the browser are not real, everything non-top level in [URL] is just mod-rewrite, thus none of the directories test or page really exist. I can see the reason why flash looks in the same directory as the one the client requested for the file (instead of looking at the same dir locally in example).

So the two solutions I thought of:
1. Is there a file_exists function i could use to make the flash recurse upper-level directories until the menu finds the xml file? as in:
var menufile = menu.xml
while (!file_exists(menu.xml)) {
menufile = '../' + menufile
}
Obviously this is not real code

2. Is there a way to open the xml from a web location and not from a static path relative to the swf itself?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading External SWF Into Right Location?

Jan 4, 2005

What I am trying to do is create a movie clip that will load an external swf then control it from the _level0 movie. The problem I am running into is loading it into the right location.

Code:
duplicateMovieClip(this.option,this.menu[context+"_"+optionnumber],this.getNextHighestDepth());
trace(this.menu[context+"_"+optionnumber])
this traces out "undefined"
I know this.option has been loaded correctly
I know this.menu exists as an empty movieclip
[context+"_"+optionnumber] traces out as expected

It Works fine as an attachment from library using attachMovie, if I convert that library item to an external SWF then try to duplicate the movieclip into the same location it dosnt work. Does duplicateMovieClip not support what I am trying to do? Is there another way to acomplish this?

ActionScript 2.0 :: CS3 - Dynamic Images Work In One Location, Not Another

Aug 25, 2009

I have a .swf that rotates through dynamically loaded images, like a banner of sorts. It secures the image names by loadVars-ing a text file. All this works fine and dandy on our test site -- everything functions flawlessy.

However, when we move the same set of files (same html page, same directory layout, same text file, same swf, same images) to another site, it doesn't work -- the swf runs, but it fails to load the images.

I'm told that this new site is on the same server, so it shouldn't be an issue of server settings.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Updating A Dynamic Text Box Location

Jan 22, 2009

on my onEnterFrame function, I just want to keep updating a Dynamic Text Box location. It's giving me more trouble than I anticipated, and the solution is probably very easy. I have spent 30 minutes (give or take) on trying to figure it out, but to no avail. This is what I have at onEnterFrame:

ActionScript Code:
_root.HPnum._y += _y - 60;
_root.HPnum._x = _x + 20;

Fairly simple, it's in the as code file that I want it to track. What happens is, it does get moved, but I cannot see it anywhere.

Actionscript 2 - System - Security.loadPolicyFile Not Loading From The Custom Location (Flash)

Nov 8, 2010

Specifically, the developer of a web service I'm trying to call has installed a cross-domain policy file on his server at:[URL] So, in my SWF, I'm calling this:

[Code]....

Of course, it's not there, so it fails to load. (If the developer could install the file at the root, I wouldn't have this problem, so I wouldn't be using System.security.loadPolicyFile in the first place). It's not just in the IDE - when I test the app in Firefox with Firebug, I can see that the SWF is attempting to load the policy file from [URL].

I've stripped down the SWF so that it does nothing else but attempt to load the policy file from the subdirectory, and it still fails. So, I don't think this has to do with any idiosyncrasies of my specific app. Bottom line - does the System.security.loadPolicyFile work? Is there something else I need to do in conjunction with that call to get it to work? Or, is there something I'm doing wrong?

Html :: Flex - HTML + CSS Dynamic Render In Flash?

Apr 11, 2010

I have HTML + CSS text. I need some lib with simple function like "Render String Var conteining HTML" So no external files (like in flash lib called HTMLwraper you just have to play your SWF on top of HTML). dinamic! I give it string it renders It into some conteiner (not as a bitmab but as if it was real HTML dynamically rendered in flash). (And I need real HTML + CSS support not what normal rich text block gives us)I am going to use it in with Flex (Flash Builder) so I like MXML component model but even pure flash AS3 will workout.It should be Free and Opensource (any license like GPL, LGPL etc will be ok).So Is out there such flashflex library for HTML + CSS dynamic rendering (rfom given String or XML)?

ActionScript 2.0 :: XML Loading, Dynamic Buttons, Dynamic Text Fields?

Jun 7, 2006

I can't get the code to "know" which of the dynamic thumbnails has been clicked (by "know", I mean return an index value, say 0 through 7 if there are 8 projects, that I can use to access that particular project in the array of 8 projects in the rest of the code)... So if the third movieclip thumbnail were clicked, I'd like "2" to come up somehow... I've tried this code, which is kind of lame, I know, based off of the idea of each of the thumbnail movieclips' names ending in their index number:

Code:
//"this" is the button that was pressed; would return a string ending in
//thumberMC_<number of whichever movieclip thumb was clicked>
var: testString:String = this;

[code]....

Lastly, there's a dynamic textfield I'm trying to create that never shows up for some reason. Again, you could see in the FLA (in the "createDrawer" function around line 424).

IDE :: Dynamic XML / HTML In SWF With Columns?

Apr 14, 2009

I am having a lot of trouble figuring out how to dynamically display 3 columns of text in my swf. They are somewhat long lists of song/album/label titles and all 3 columns need to scroll as one unit. My client gave me Excel files with the lists in spreadsheet form. I've tried exporting as XML and HTML. I've gotten the lists to disply in my SWF using dynamic text boxes but now I can't figure out how to get all 3 text boxes to scroll as one.

Is there a way to create a simple table in Flash and have each list load into Column1, Column2, and Column3 and then attach a srollbar to the table?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Swf's Not Loading In Html

In flash, when I go to publish preview everything works fine. When I publish the files, swf1 I published as an swf file as well as an html file. When I view the html file, swf1 is there but none of the other swf files load into swf1. I tried to create the html page in dreamweaver 8 with the same result. I created a site map for the site and still nothing.

To load the swf dynamically I used this code on the main timeline of swf1[code]...
