ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Resources - Create A Loader To Load My Game?
Dec 20, 2009
I am making a game, then I learned to load the resources (images,etc) just when I need them, using the Loader class.I would like to know if I embed them they would be loaded with the game swf file (I am thinking as if my game is on a website) or when I instantiate them.If I load it one time and not use it anymore (loose its reference) and after some time load it again, will it be downloaded from server again? Or it will load from my pc? If I put the resources on a folder in the server (now I am using a folder on my pc) anyone would go there and get all the resources! What should I do? how my game would work on a website, not on my PC only I got the idea to create a loader to load my game, but I cant think about the resources loading,

Ask a question .. images resources of the flash game , How should I load? I use the Loader class, but some people use the embedded resources. In which case use "Loader" class and in which case use "[Embed]"?

I am running an online flash multiplayer game. However, I have been facing a problem lately where some users cannot actually completely load all the resources required to run the game. The percentage that users get stuck at is different for different users (for instance, one could get stuck at 43% and some other at 91%). I don't think there is any problem with the files as such because the resources are completely loaded for the majority of the users and the game works just fine for them. Has anyone faced such a problem before?

I want to have an AS3 app load images from url supplied by the user. But I don't want a malicious user to be able to load an SWF file in place of the image, such as with an altered extension "maliciousSwf.png". Well, not sure how big a security threat that is above and beyond the ability of the hacker to decompile swf, but I think that ideally such behavior should not be allowed.
So, is there any way to prevent this? When people allow users to load images in their Flash apps, do they somehow guard against loading of SWF? Or is this really absolutely no big deal?

We are developing an epic game using flash cs5 and actionscript 3 (no flex at all). There are lots of images and other media stuff in library that we need to use. Early i just kept them in my main .fla, but then compiling swf became very slow (more images - more time to compile). So i put all my images to filesystem outside flash, and it helps. But then some lags and bugs appeared, especially when we were testing the game on remote server. Seems like files just don't have time to load (or they loaded uncompletely) - though i did it pretty correct, sequentially, with events like onload and so on.
Finally i've created another swf with all the images and resources. I'm loading it once in my main swf and i compile it only when i need to add a new image. It works rather well, but i have feeling that i'm doing it wrong or there is another right way to organize resources more easy. Also there are some minor troubles with second swf; for example, i have to make user wait until it loads inside my first file, and if i want to run from my desktop, i always must keep these two files near in one place. And, as amount of images growth and growth, it becomes annoying to compile my 2nd swf again, even if i need to do it not so often.

I've been at this for a couple of hours chopping and changing all sorts of things so now im going back to basics and starting from scratch[code]...
all i am planning on doing is having an automated holder looping through 5 images, not even bothered about fading or anything for now, just need a dead simple loader to actually get me going again to give me something to build on

I'm feeling a bit low now as I have been suffering this for months. A simple loader loads my simple game and runs VERY FAST on even slow pcs BUT when I build this other loader, it goes quite slowly and I don't know where the app is going wrong. WHERE is the processing consumptoin coming from out of my app.

I'm new in the flash world. I'm trying to set up my website but I keep on getting errors! I manage to create a loader to load the images of my portfolio, first I couldn't remove the previous image, when I loaded the second one, the first one was still there. Now it seems to disappear when I added the line removeChild(loader1). BUT I still get a message in the output panel:
ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller. at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild() at prueba3_fla::MainTimeline/clickF2()
I don't know if this is going to be a problem in the future or not. I don't have any idea of what this message is talking about

I'm working though the Adobe "Flex in a Week" video training series, and I've reached Exercise 9, which deals with creating a remote service call. Up til this point, the data source and images have been local assets (located in src/assets in my Flash Builder project).
I access the room list by this:
<mx:HTTPService id="rooms" url="assets/roomList.xml"
fault="httpFaultHandler(event)"
result="httpResultHandler(event)"/>
Here are the two result handlers:
private function httpFaultHandler(event:FaultEvent):void{
Alert.show("There was a problem","Error");
}[code]...........
However, when I run the application in the blazeDS container, I get no rooms despite the fact that the room list clearly exists in the deployment directory after running the application:
$ find . -name roomList.xml
./tomcat/webapps/odt/adobeODT-debug/assets/roomList.xml
How can I debug the reason for this failure? The deployment process used by the Flash Builder tool is fairly opaque, and the tomcat instance isn't advertising 404s from Flex apps. Is there logging somewhere, or something, that needs to be turned on?

Any way to dynamically see how much memory the Flash player is taking up? I am loading in hundreds of thumbnails using a search box, and I want to make sure assets are off-loading properly. Also, the thumbnails are being loaded in one at a time in a for-loop. The thumbnail addresses are being received via an XML page. When I load them through the for-loop, some of the thumbnails never load. Most of them do, but I find spots where they don't. Most important question is about the flash resource manager! Is there one?

I got this very strange behavior from FlashPlayer debugger 10.1 r82. When I call loader.load method, no ADDED event is dispatched to the loader object. But if I open the file and call loader.loadBytes instead, an ADDED event is dispatched to the loader object. I suspect the ADDED event is dispatched because the content is being set as the child of Loader object, but why in the other case it is not dispatched?

I am attempting to load multiple images in AS3 and I'm exploring different options on how this can be done.I would like to have to only use one Load() instance and handle the various image assignments in the onComplete handler...here is my first attempt:
var buttonLdr:Loader = new Loader();
buttonLdr.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onLoadError);
buttonLdr.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoadCo

Sorry for the complicated topic. I got a .swf that loads in other .swfs. Rather than figuring out how to make a loader for loading .swfs I thought I'd just use a simple loader in the .swf I'm loading.
However, it doesn't work. It starts fully loaded but doesn't finish. Heres the AS:[AS]_root.stop();
PercentLoaded = _root.getBytesLoaded()/_root.getBytesTotal()*100;

im trying to create a tamagotchi game type game. For some reason i can not add any items to the stage.Currently i have imported 2 png images to the stage and coverted them to movie clips. One is called TamagotchiCharacter and the other is called Beer. I have also created a new 2 AS3.0 script class called TamagotchiGame and DraggableItem. The following is TamagotchiGame:
Code:
package {
import flash.display.MovieClip;
public class TamagotchiGame extends MovieClip {
[code]....
I have assigned the above code as the BaseClass of the Beer symbol, this has allowed the beer to become draggable and droppable etc.when i run the program nothing happens, i just get a blank white screen.

I have a main "shell" swf which, by clicking several buttons, will load/unload various external swfs into a Placeholder_mc which resides on the main timeline in Shell.swf In the documentation and tutorials I've seen a couple different methods, and I'm not sure I quite understand the difference, or at least the reason you would use one over the other...In the 1st method, you can just add the Loader object using the addChild() method:
Code:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf");
myLoader.load(myURLRequest);
Placeholder_mc.addChild(myLoader);
This will apparently add myLoader to the display list once it has completely loaded.The 2nd method, you supposedly can add the Loader.content; however, it appears you can only do this once the content has completed loading, so you need to incorporate an event handler with the contentLoaderInfo object:
Code:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf");
myLoader.load(myURLRequest);
[code]....
What are the pros/cons of adding the entire Loader object, as opposed to the Loader.content and vice versa?

I'm currently downloading website via an ActionScript HTMLLoader to later have access to the DOM to get some information out of the page. The problem is: each resource that is linked on the page (images, stylesheets, javascript) is also loaded which takes some additional time. I don't really need those resources, because only the plain HTML/DOM is interesting. Is there any way to disable loading of linked resources? At first I tried using an URLLoader and parse the result as XML, but when the website isn't valid this doesn't work. I also didn't find a library that validates/parses a given HTML-string into valid XML.

I'm developing a flash game in cs5 and it works fine on the offline player. When running in browsers, they crash. The game is has a multifile loader and basically when all the files are almost loaded, the browser crashes. At first, it was only working on IE. Then i made some modifications and it was only working on FF 5.0.1. It never run on chrome or safari. On another computer with IE8, and finally, the flash gave me a stack trace:
Stack trace from IE
Then I got some stack traces on FF and I managed to change some class names and another minor stuff and it worked on FF perfectly. But not on IE or chrome. So I downloaded and installed the debugger version of flash player 10.3, but now on FF it finishes loading and then I get a crash message ( :( )from ff.

I am really pulling my hair out with this one. Flash game, container swf loads a img using the loader class. The image is the map which will be used on the levels. The problem im having is that I originaly had each level load the map image, convert to a bitmap, and us it to create x and y's for colision detection.
the problem was that the game was loading and sometimes the map image hadent loaded. It also ment that each level was loading the same image and if the above happened on the 3rd, 4th level it was very annoying. So I need a way to load the image in the parent, but have it available to the child, however it must be available as at bitmap to work.

is it possible to create a pre-loader using plainly Flex 4? I've seen tutorials on how to make one but each of them requires that I have Flash Professional or Flash Catalyst. I have absolutely no experience when it comes to implementing pre-loaders as well as making one.

I'm developing a gallery and I've just relised I've been creating a new set of thumbnails each time I click on the image category.There are four Categories and everytime I click on a category a new set of thumbnails gets created.How would I go about reusing the loaded thumbnails.I'm assuming I would need to create a separate Array to store the loaded thumbnail from each category. I am able to create the Array but how do I tell flash that the Loaded objects are in the array so don't create a new Loader and a new thumbHolder.[code]

I've set up a swf with three buttons and when you click on one it loads a different swf and places it into a movie clip. If there's already something in the movie clip it removes it and then replaces it. The problem I'm having is if one of the swfs is very large and for whatever reason someone clicks on a different button where the swf is smaller it will load the smaller swf but continue to download the larger one and when that finishes it will load on top of the smaller one.Here is my code:
ActionScript Code:
var home:MovieClip = this;
var ldr:Loader = new Loader();
