ActionScript 3.0 :: Masking Multiple Text Elements Into A Background?

I have several text fields (with different numbers written on them) each inside their own movie clip. There is a background underneath all of them. What I want to achieve is to cut the shape of each of the numbers into the background. They should still be able to behave as separate movie clips.
i am using Flash MX2004(AS 2.0), i need to mask the attached movieclip, totally i attached 3 movieclip(all are same one), i need to display first movieclip by using mask. one more thing is moving that mask by press button, when i press the button the mask will show the second movie clip and so on.
I'm having a really strange problem with movieclips that use a mask for reflection. On my main timeline i'm creating two instances of a movieclip named 'item'. In item.as i'm calling cacheAsBitmap and setting a gradient movieclip as a mask. When I run the clip I am only getting the clickable hand icon when I hover over the first clip. However, if I comment out 'this.mask = mask_mc' then both clips are selectable.

Basically I'm building an image gallery. Rather than thumbnails, it just loads the full size images and masks them, so they can all be scrolled through. (I made an intuative preloader for this). It all works fine. The only problem I see there being is performance, when there's quite a few images.Could anyone suggest a way to reduce the load, and make it a bit more memory friendly? I (stupidly) thought that masked out images wouldn't render. I think I'm wrong though? I thought maybe I could make the images off the screen set to 'visible = false'?
I'm creating a carousel using AS3 based on the following code: [URL]. I've got several elements on the stage that I'd like to be behind the carousel but instead I can see that the carousel is showing up behind all the elements on the stage.
How do I add text effects such as a mask to text that has strokes, or decorated text? I would like to have a masked effect on special type that has a stroke to it.Currently the mask works on static Arial text and when I convert the static text to a movie clip. But the mask doesn't work when I convert the static text to dynamic text.
I am using this tutorial and when I hit the play button the masking tween looks perfect on the stage.When I publish or use test movie however the gradient underlay shows up on top of the text.
I am using AS3, I have a problem in displaying the datagrid. The Datagrid text not showing behind mask. If i put outside the mask, then the data(text) will appear. How do I display the datagridc text/data inside the mask layer?
I have created a login form and I masked the whole movie as it shown in the attachment. After masking,, the text on buttons is disappeared. I used components as buttons... you can view my project in the attachment.
And my problem isn't the mask but the dynamic text is not loading from the XML file anymore.I think this is because in the tutorial the first thing you do is make the dynamic text field a movie clip. As soon as I do that the text data doesn't load from the external XML file. The code that previously worked was:_root.prompt = this.firstChild.childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue; prompt_txt.text = _root.prompt;But now I made the dynamic text field prompt_txt a movie clip named prompt_mc and it doesn't load. So I realize now that prompt_txt lives inside prompt_mc but how do I get the text data from the XML file there???
I'm trying to detect multiple elements in an array. My countTicks:Array contains mostly numbers and below you can see I'm using "logical AND" to try and find them.
The problem is, once I have more than 2 "logical ANDs" (&&) the trace gets called. Which it shouldn't because the array wouldn't yet hold those numbers.

I am working on a booking/appointment program for a friend. The desired end result is this;A date picker is used to select the day. A combo box is used to pick a service.Based on the service selected, a MC will load in various options/additions to that service.Another MC displays a schedule showing business hours (8:00 to 5:00) in 15 minute increments - based on both the date picker and the service selected and the option(s) selected (which determines length of time needed), available time slots are unshaded, requested but not yet approved time slots are shaded color 'a' (let's say medium gray), and booked time slots (after being approved) are shaded color 'b' (let's say red).I have the date picker working. I started a combobox which works, and controls the timeline of the options MC - where I am currently hard coding options as radio buttons and/or check boxes. I would much rather have this dynamically generated instead of picking a frame of a MC with hard coded choices. I haven't started on the scheduler yet.
I'm working on a project that has multiple movie clips and I want to have three buttons, you press button1 and it displays mc1, then you press button2 and it displays mc2 and also hides mc1. same with others so if mc1 is on and you press button3 it will turn mc1 off and turn mc3 on. so any combination only turns on its respective mc.
how to do this without an extraneous amount of code. It will eventually have over 20 buttons, so I want to keep code clean if possible.
I have a tile-based platformer game under work, and I'm stuck on a problem with hitTesting:

The problem here is that hitBlock only hitTests one block at a time, and when I test this: If you lean on a wall (press right arrow key) and go downwards you can go through the floor.
I need to make it so that I can test on multiple blocks at a time.
And I did try to replace hitBlock with levelHolder[i], but it gave an error saying:
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property 0 not found on flash.display.Sprite and there is no default value. at Main/enterFrame()
I'm guessing that comes from the level array where 0 = blank block / empty space.
My aim is to copy multiple row content from Flex datagrid, to a clipboard enabling users to take pieces of information and pasting them were they are necessary. I bumped into a problem that in Flex (as far as I know) its not possible to paste whole array of information in the clipboard. At the moment, I pass selected datagrid items to a textfield, and then run "System.setClipboard(text_area.text);" I was wonderng if there is a way to pass it to multiple Clipboard directories, without overwriting previous entry, similar as when you can copy multiple items from different location into a clipboard, pile them up and then paste all at once?
wonered if someone could help me wih this one. Currently making a facebook game all in flash, it uses multiple swfs to make up the game and its elements for optimisation.
My question really is down to flash cache issue so we can make updates to various swfs that are going to be, site wide for users so the game doesnt break. Currently some users get older versions which breaks things if other swfs have chnaged how they communicate as an example.
I am aware of adding a query string onto the end to force to get the latest version.....however doesnt this make the use of a cache redudant as its being simply overriden? Would jsut like it to work as it should:) If theres a new version of a swf use it..if not use current one.
Does one normally use some sort of wrapper object to do so?
For example, if I have an array with 10 elements (for example, images that are gonna be linked), I can loop through the array and add them to stage with:
myArray[i].x = i * myArrayElement.width;
What if I wanted to position all of the elements yet keep them in the same positions relative to each other.
Can you do so with an array, I gather the answer is no. So if that's right, do people throw an Array into another object and the use that objects x property?
when adding a mask to a parent sprite with a dynamic text field, the text loses anti-aliasing. how can i maintain the text's anti-alias while still applying a mask to its parent, and subsequently to itself.the font is embedded, and the text field will be animated so it must also be masked along with its parent.
As the title states, I need to know how to save multiple text files, from multiple text boxes on the screen. Each textbox has the instance name of t1, t2, t3... and so on. Here is the code I have now:

I am learning to flash ,and found thing I could not understand it very well.I made a Text masking:following mouse, just two layers totally,in the first layer, I input some words , and then created the second layer ,but I defined the second one as Mask layer,and draw a circle on it.of course I converted it from picture to MC named Mask. at this point, I faced the troubles, when key the codes "startDrag ("mask",ture") into the second layer,it works, but I thought it should work in the MC, I mean I right clicked the MC-mask,and then chose the action and also input the codes ,but I got the warning like this "this code must exsit in the on/onClipEvent ",and ok , I just add the onClipEvent,but still not work.
Would anyone be kind enough to help me with some Actionscript code (2.0) that will automatically remove from dynamically imported html text. Basically an html page is updated by a client using a CMS system (CushyCMS) but it inserts.When the page reloads into the flash site the cause the text to break.So I would like something that either removes the or changes it to a single space that won't cause the line to break.
I have an external class in a .as file, my problem is that I can't access text box elements on the stage. Code like stage.txtfield.text or this.parent.txtfield.text does not work. The txtfield is the instace name of a Dynamic Text field.
I'm working on a full flash site with a target resolution of 1024x768. My main content fits within these dimensions and is a fixed size. What I'd like to do, Is have a background graphic in each of the four corners so that stays fixed to the four corners at multiple resolutions. (The background is sort of a grunge/distressed design that is dark in the corners and gradually fades to white towards the center.)
For example: - at 1024x768 it would start at each corner and go partly behind my main content box. - at higher resolutions such as 1680x1050 (Apple Powerbook) the graphic(s) would still be in each corner but wouldn't quite go behind my site content. That's sort of irrelevant - mainly what I'm after is how to stick the graphics to the corners while keeping my primary swf at 1024 wide.
