How do I add text effects such as a mask to text that has strokes, or decorated text? I would like to have a masked effect on special type that has a stroke to it.Currently the mask works on static Arial text and when I convert the static text to a movie clip. But the mask doesn't work when I convert the static text to dynamic text.
View 3 Repliesin my projects i often use some xml files to load external text that i can format in css and it worked fine till now..i have a site that i am prograaming in italian and german and in both languages there is much text that contains special characters as "à " "ò" "è" "ù" "ä" "ü" and so on .. the problem is that when i write some text with this special characters in xml when the text is loaded in the flash this special characters are not recognised and instead of them a small square is displayed ..
i tryed to load the text from a html file instead of a xml file (because in HTML i know how to write theese special characters and let them display right in my html pages .. for example à = à but no way .. the flash now loades the text à instead of à ..
I am using this tutorial and when I hit the play button the masking tween looks perfect on the stage.When I publish or use test movie however the gradient underlay shows up on top of the text.

As soon as I do that the text data doesn't load from the external XML file. The code that previously worked was:_root.prompt = this.firstChild.childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue; prompt_txt.text = _root.prompt;But now I made the dynamic text field prompt_txt a movie clip named prompt_mc and it doesn't load. So I realize now that prompt_txt lives inside prompt_mc but how do I get the text data from the XML file there???

View 2 RepliesI have a flash-application (done with CS4) in which a particular Textbox, which is vertical fails to display characters with a hacek (ˇ) on top. If such a character appears with in a string that is to be shown, it is simply dropped, leaving the string crippled.
This baffles me since characters with hacek work on other (horizontal) textfields in the same .swf with the same Font (Arial) work just fine. I also tried manually telling flash to embed these characters for this textfield, but to no avail. Even entering characters with hacek in the flash IDE works without problems.
I am not very familiar with flash, this application has been developed by a co-worker who is no longer employed here.
I have several text fields (with different numbers written on them) each inside their own movie clip. There is a background underneath all of them. What I want to achieve is to cut the shape of each of the numbers into the background. They should still be able to behave as separate movie clips.

I published my app on MAC, when I use my app on mac - all is fine all special characters are displayed correctly - but when I test it on Windows - special characters do not appear or I get wrong characters when I type. View 0 RepliesI am having a hard time getting special characters such to show up in my text fields...I am trying to use IMPACT font and the texts tweens larger when the user mouses over it...and tweens back to normal when you mouse off...now I noticed that when I do not embed any characters...they will show up...but the tweening looks so bad and grainy...but when I embed the Upper Case, Lower Case, Numbers, and Punctuation those characters disappear...is there another set that I should be choosing to embed those special characters? Or do I have to manually enter those in?

I have a text field and I fill its content dynamically with an xml, however i noticed that my customer wants some words to be links, is it possible for me to load a sort of html text into a text field? id like also to create links in some words inside the text field and put listeners to only those specific words, its that possible?
View 4 RepliesI have taken over an old project of a registration page after a short quiz and for some reason it is not possible to enter special characters in the text input field. example: @ but it is also not possible to enter a y or a capital W and some others. I have not found any thread or google infos on this problem and am short of reprogramming the whole thing in as3 which is very tedious because the whole site is still running as2 and we do not have time nor money to update.

Some of the characters are working fine. But some of the special characters are not. For example the angle symbol "∠" is not working.
I found out the Decimal code for angle symbol (∠) and used it. It is working fine if I don't embed the font but when we embed the font (even with all the characters that flash support), it is not working.

when adding a mask to a parent sprite with a dynamic text field, the text loses anti-aliasing. how can i maintain the text's anti-alias while still applying a mask to its parent, and subsequently to itself.the font is embedded, and the text field will be animated so it must also be masked along with its parent.

I've got a dynamic text area pulling text from a MySQL database via AMFPHP.The text includes special characters such as accents,umlauts, etc (multi-language site platform). Most of them work fine, and ALL of them work fine when I'm on a Mac client. However, if I use a Windows client machine in either Firefox or IE6, there are a couple characters that for whatever reason just don't seem to show up-instead I get the [] box character.
The only characters I've found that seem to be affected like this are European quote characters like ' " and " (hex characters 146, 147, 148). I'm using the familiar ampersand-pound-number-semicolon escape sequence for them. And like I said, they all display fine on Mac/Firefox and Mac/Safari. Why are all my other special characters (umlauts, accents, etc) working fine and just these things failing? It's also worth noting that they look fine if I dump them out to a PHP file and pull it up in a browser...
I think this can be really easy however i'm not reaching the answer of this question. i have text inputs .......and i want to restrict the input to only Numbers...mytextbox.restrict = "0-9"; now when i try entering the values it works fine.....but but.....i doesn't accept any special characters.and i want it to atleast accept '.' because i want to accept decimal values
View 1 RepliesI am learning to flash ,and found thing I could not understand it very well.I made a Text masking:following mouse, just two layers totally,in the first layer, I input some words , and then created the second layer ,but I defined the second one as Mask layer,and draw a circle on it.of course I converted it from picture to MC named Mask. at this point, I faced the troubles, when key the codes "startDrag ("mask",ture") into the second layer,it works, but I thought it should work in the MC, I mean I right clicked the MC-mask,and then chose the action and also input the codes ,but I got the warning like this "this code must exsit in the on/onClipEvent ",and ok , I just add the onClipEvent,but still not work.

when i exported the swf it was of 83 kb (too huge) and i checked it was all due to shapes in the mask layer....
i found "eltima swf optimizer" on internet but it gives only black and white output in the demo version ....
i opmitized all shapes one by one by using modify>shape>optimize using 100% optimization but when i exported swf this time was 114kb(even more) this sux!!!
my question is that is there any other "swf optimizer" that i can use for free.. (hey its my school project and i just need to mask a single jpeg)
I posted a message a while ago about creating a spotlight effect over a background and it was suggested that I use masks to create the desired effect. This worked fantastically.... until now lol. I need to mask both the background image AND some randomly generated on-screen objects. Whever I try to add the mask to the objects generated at run-time, it ceases to mask the background as well!
I should probably have expected this one... but was just wondering what was the best wat to get around this? Should I create 2 'spotlight' objects which directly overlap each other, but have one set to mask the background while the other masks everything else? Or is there an easier approach?

I have a PNG file with transparency imported into the library and converted to MovieClip.Now I want to use this PNG file for masking another sprite drawn dynamically using the drawing API. I know that you cant mask a runtime generated sprite with a author time movieclip. So i created another runtime sprite and copied the BitmapData of the PNG in the library to it. The masking happens, but not the way i want. The BitmapData is always a solid box and the masking apears across this box. I would like to have the transparent region of the PNG omitted from the mask data
