Something like rotating the array:

View 2 RepliesI have a movieclip, with the instance name SizingBox, on the main timeline. Within that mc, I have a Slider component, with the instance name Sizer. I want to declare an action listener on the main timeline which will listen to changes for Sizer and do something based on the current value of the slider.In AS2 this was really easy, but I cannot seem to figure it out for AS3.

I am working on a information visualization project that involves visualizing json data from online forums. The problem that I'm having is that I'm not able to access all of the values of elements the json. Here is my Schema:

I tested and the json is valid but when I run it with this code it only is able to pull the last value (Week 2 Discussion 1 - Cable and Broadcast Television).

So, my question is, why isn't it tracing all of the values for the forum title? and what do I need to change to access those values?

View 9 RepliesI made a .as Class where some graphical elements are spawned into the stage. However, the Flash (.fla) have some internal graphics that are supposed to be over the graphical elements spawned from the custom class.I tried to make another layer over the layer where the as3 Class is being called, but unfortunately it doesn't do anything, the graphic from the .as still appearing over the internal .fla graphics.

I know Array.NUMERIC and Array.DESCENDING would change the position of the elements, but I can't seem to figure out the logic on how to keep their positions.
I just read the tutorial "Finding Values in an Array". Sure, the code works, but that's only because we are searching arrays the contain a small number of elements. Suppose we have n elements in an array. To search that array for a particular element we may have to do n comparisons. If the array we are searching contains 10 million elements, we have a problem; can you imagine doing "if (this == that)" 10 million times? There's got to be a better way to search the array. Or perhaps we shouldn't use arrays to store the information.
View 9 RepliesI have a stand alone projector file that I am working with. I am trying to figure out how to position certain elements at the top, bottom and sides of the frame so that when the projector is viewed on different machines those elements will remain in the same position.
The file I am working with will be full screen and I have figured that part out. But I need to create a navbar for the top and another bar at the bottom of the screen. If you look at the drawingart site and you resize the browser all the elements stay the same size too. I need to achieve this effect as I am creating this file to work on all size screens.
I've written the following method (in actionscript 3, it's a flash application) which returns what transformation type is required for the current mouse position in relation to a given element position.

In particular, I'm looking to be able to for e.g. create a news ticker where changing the XML allows you to 1) change the text and appearance, 2) framerate can be controlled, 3) interpolations between key frames can be specified (e.g. linear interpolation)
View 1 RepliesI am looking to create flash movies that include video and that have dynamic text in them.Basically the concept is we send out an email with a link in it that has an ID in a query string value. Once the page loads It hits our database and pulls out the name of the person tied to the ID in the querystring, then the page would need to pass this information on to the flash movie and update a symbol with the text. Does this sound crazy or is it possible? We also want to export it to html5 so it works on all devices and browsers

View 1 RepliesIt is a large gear that rotates CCW when you click the top button and CW when you click the bottom button. Clicking the buttons also retrieves the next element in an array called 'title' and displays it next to the gear. The elements of the array are titles of videos. I need to be able to click on these titles (as hyperlinks) and have them open up a video window to display the video that corresponds to that title. I am using flash CS5 and I am a beginner. I am working in Flash CS4. I have successfully run a .wmv file through the Media Encoder, converted it to a f4v file, imported it into Flash, and published it with a skin to a folder on my hard drive.I am learning this on my own (no one else in my state agency knows Flash - we are just getting started with posting videos on the Internet, and this is the test case).I get the following four files in one folder on my hard drive (I have put in parentheses what I think the files do, please correct if I am wrong):
oil.f4v (the movie file)
Test.html (the html page in which the swf file is embedded to play back the movie)
Test.swf (the swf file that is embedded in the html page)
SkinUnderPlayStopSeekMuteVol.swf (the skin file that is linked to from the Test.swf file??)
My question is: As long as these four files stay in the original folder, the html page plays the movie perfectly. As soon as I rename the folder, nothing works. It appears to be a question of re-establishing a relative/absolute link among the files? I want to post these to my live site in order to test, but of course that won't work yet either.
I have a bunch of Flash (.fla) files where I need to convert all absolute (root) target paths in timeline scripts to relevant relative ones. Doing it manually in Flash CS4 is very tedious work and using "replace" action is tedious too as there are multiple nested timelines. Is there any way to automate this task?
View 4 RepliesI am working with Flex, and I need to take a relative URL source property and convert it to an absolute URL before loading it.
The specific case I am working with involves tweaking SoundEffect's load method. I need to determine if a file will be loaded from the local file system or over the network from looking at the source property, and the easiest way I've found to do this is to generate the absolute URL.
I'm having trouble generating the absolute URL for sound effect in particular. Here were my initial thoughts, which haven't worked.
Look for the DisplayObject that the Sound Effect targets, and use its loaderInfo property. The target is null when the SoundEffect loads, so this doesn't work.
Look at FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication, at the url or loaderInfo properties. Neither of these are set, however. Look at the FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.systemManager.loaderInfo. This was also not set.
The SoundEffect.as code basically boils down to

I would also be perfectly satisfied with some way to tell whether the url will be loaded from the local file system or over the network. Looking at an absolute URL it would just be easy to look at the prefix, like file:// or http://.
I'm attempting to use a relative path with SendAndLoad to my php query page named variables.php. Things seem to work just fine when I reference variables.php using an absolute path [URL], but variables are being returned as undefined when I attempt to call the page using just "variables.php." To add complexity, the swf is being referenced in an included page which is wrapped inside another page.
I know the path needs to be relative to the html/php page, not the swf itself. But what if the html page where the swf is encoded is actually being called from within another wrapper? I'm assuming the path needs to be relative to the final page, regardless. My guess is that the php isn't being parsed correctly when called via the relative path, which is the cause of my problem. Can anyone provide any insight? /dir/media/myflash.swf is called by /includes/myincludedswf.php which is then called by /home/final page.php if variables.php resides in the home directory, shouldn't I be able to use the path "variables.php" in the SendAndLoad directive?
Im a bit confused about the adressing of .swf-files loaded into levels of another .swf-file.The adressing seem to be absolute, ie. if a sub.swf (which is loaded into a super.swf from another location) uses some sort of adressing (for instance, loading an image), that adress must include the path from the super.swf.
Cant you change that somehow, so that sub.swf's can adress other stuff relatively to its own adress?
Can you do that globally (so that relative adressing is used by every .swf)?Can you set it individually, so that adressing is relative only from the specified swf's?

However, it doesn't work. It works when I put the full absolute address, instead of simply "images/img1.jpg" . Is there any way to use a relative address?!?!? Probably attach the relative address to the URL property?
Didn't know if I should be here or in the Dreamweaver forum. Just trying to figure out how to make a Flash swf. start only after all the other elements of the page have been downloaded. Is this something you would do in Flash through Publish Settings or would this be accomplished in Dreamweaver?
View 4 RepliesI'm developing my first flash app. I'm trying to use classes because they'll be very important in my future app. I created a simple movieclip with a star. However, instead of putting it directly on the stage, I'm calling it from library, using the addChild method to place the star in the stage. To do that, I simple right click over the movieclip icon->properties->check export to action script->and I give a name to the class (for example: myMC)
Then, inside the class I wrote:

As I am placing the two variables origin_x and origin_y inside the constructor, I'm expecting to get 250 and 200 respectively. After drop the star, I want to send it to it's original place, and that's why I need to keep this values. And here's the problem, origin_x and origin_y are both ZERO, instead of 250 and 200... The value is not relative to stage. I managed a little bit and I found this post : [URL]. Unfortunately I tried to replace by the suggested code, but both values remain zero. An interesting thing, is that if I put the star directly in the stage instead of calling it from the library as I am doing, I get correct values in origin_x and origin_y.
wonered if someone could help me wih this one. Currently making a facebook game all in flash, it uses multiple swfs to make up the game and its elements for optimisation.
My question really is down to flash cache issue so we can make updates to various swfs that are going to be, site wide for users so the game doesnt break. Currently some users get older versions which breaks things if other swfs have chnaged how they communicate as an example.
I am aware of adding a query string onto the end to force to get the latest version.....however doesnt this make the use of a cache redudant as its being simply overriden? Would jsut like it to work as it should:) If theres a new version of a swf use it..if not use current one.
I have a tween set on a timer:

I just need to make the tween's position relative to it's current position, as opposed to starting at the stage's 0 position then moving the the stage's -40 position. It needs to start at its current position the move -40 from that position.
our collaborators misposition the registration points of MCs.Here's the deal: we need to recover the REAL MC's coordinates (not the ones based on registration point). Is it possible? How? I've tried some code already (like getBounds and getRect functions) but all of 'em consider the registration point.
