ActionScript 2.0 :: Empty Movie Clip Width?

Aug 3, 2007

I'm trying to load images into a row of images. Each image is a different width. Heres the code so far:

Code:
var xPos:Number = 0;
for (y=0; y<5; y++) {
var container:MovieClip = this.holder.createEmptyMovieClip("picholder"+y,y);
container.loadMovie("mypic.jpg");
container._x = xPos;
xPos += container._width;
}

The problem at the moment is that the container._width property is reading 0 so all the images are loading on top of each other. This is the same with "picholder"+y. If I set the xPos value to say 100 then it works fine. I'm guessing its something to do with the fact that the loadMovie happens after the var container is defined. Whats a way around this?

Also just while I'm posting whats the correct syntax for something like this:container.loadMovie("mypic" + (y) +".jpg");

IDE :: Limit On TextField Width?

Jul 7, 2009

I just finished troubleshooting a bug and though I would share so no one else had to deal with it.There seems to be and undocumented limit to the width of a TextField. and that limit is right around 8000. After about that much the text gets shoved to the left of the textfield as opposed to into the text field.Not something that most people are going to come across I know. I ran across it because I was making an RSS ticker type application and the textfield was being autosized to the width of the string.So I put an if statement in there to limit the box to 8000, the only problem now is that some of the text is going to be cut off.

So I'm trying to set the width and height of a movie clip symbol. Initially, on the stage the movie clip is set to w = 400, h = 350. Whenever I load a 400x350 image on the clip (from a button), it looks way too wide. So I tried to fix this by adding setproperties for width and height on the action for the button.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Changing Movie Clip Symbol Width?

Aug 13, 2010

I searched the forums, but couldn't really find anything that matched my specific needs. I have a movie clip symbol that is your character, I also have a movie clip symbol that is named fuel and it represents the fuel you have left. I tried this in your character:

if (Key.isDown(Key.UP)) {
yspeed -= ypower;
fuel._width -= 50;
}

as a little bit of code. fuel._width -= 50; is what I'm really interested in. yspeed-= ypower; is just my movement, which works. So why doesn't my fuel width change?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Finding Total Max Width And Height Of Movie Clip?

Apr 6, 2011

How do I find the total maximum width and height of a movie clip with respect to every frame of that movie clip?

So for instance if the movie clip was circles of radius 5 registered at their center at various positions where:

frame 1:circle.x=-30
frame 2:circle.x=0
frame 3:circle.x=30

The total maximum width of movie clip would be 30--30+5+5=70.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Width Limit When Bitmap Is Loaded Externally?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Canvas Size Limit 2880 But Image Width 5000

Aug 20, 2010

My artist drew a beautiful island but it's 5000 in width. We scroll it as it's for a Virtual World. - it's in layers and we scroll the different layers at different speeds. Flash documentation states that the limit is 2880 BUT it does work in the player i.e.: you can see the full island but it does run a little slow.

Should I
a. Create a smaller island of 2880 which is a shame as I would have to get rid of a lot of good stuff
b. Split it into two images and dynamically connect them with code.

Also, I have different layers scrolling at different speeds which would make things more difficult to look natural.

ActionScript 2.0 :: DropTest - Check And See If The Dragged Movie Clip Is Completely Within The Bounds Of Another Movie Clip

Jan 11, 2010

I'm creating a small drag & drop activity, and I want to be able to check and see if the dragged movie clip is completely within the bounds of another movie clip (or at least in the bounds of a certain x/y zone on the main stage. I can't use dropTest because it returns true if any tiny bit of the movie clip overlaps with the dropTest movie clip.

I also thought of something that just checks the x/y coordinates of the dragged movie clip, but I'd need this to reflect a range of values rather than one coordinate. For instance, I'd want to return true if the movie clip's x is between 50-60 AND the y is between 50-60. I'm attaching a small graphic to illustrate in case my explanation isn't clear enough [URL]

ActionScript 3.0 :: MCs Classes - Can't Send An Event From The Eagle Movie Clip Or The T2D Movie Clip To Tell The Other To Fade Out

Nov 5, 2010

There is a bad gap in my knowledge with Event Dispatch and Event architecture, and this problem proves it. I've been getting nowhere on this problem for two days, I've posted everything to my Flash site. Go here, please: [URL] Click on "Flash Banners" The two thumbnails represent two different classes. Each class is identical. Both are "extends Movie Clip" classes. Tweeners of various types control the hover and click methods. URL Loaders load the thumnails which I then wrap in MC's and make them buttonMode = true, etc. Hover and click to load the Banners on the thumbnails.

I can't send an event from the Eagle movie clip or the T2D movie clip to tell the other to fade out. Both Banner classes are instantiated through a separate Base class. I'm sure this has to be an Event Dispatch from one MC to another and that it can't be done by the Base class. how I can send an Event or Event Dispatch and what the code structure is so one movie clip can in one class can tell the other movie clip in the other class to disappear while it's neighbour is playing. I'm happy to post code or explain / clarify anything that's not clear.
