ActionScript 3.0 :: Overlapping Sounds With SWFs With Embedded Audio?
Aug 11, 2010
I am using an xml based slide navigation shell that uses next and back buttons to page through content.
If I use SWFs with embedded audio (which I need to do sometimes) the audio will overlap after I leave the slide, SoundMixer.stopAll() is not doing the trick. I think removeChild may be the direction I need, but I'm not sure how to implement so far.

I want to synchronize sounds perfectly to do a kind of Audio Mixer, using different sounds. [URL] does it perfectly, I've been researching and researching and I just don't know how to do it! How does [URL] synchonize audio so perfectly? you can even change sounds and the new ones will come on time! How do I do that? Is it just Action Script? or something else?

I am trying to simply have it so that when you put your mouse over the little blue guy, the sound repeats faster but does NOT overlap, infact, I don't want the sound to overlap at all. Also I want it so the sound stops playing on the next scene.

I want to trigger a sound from my Library (linkage is: INM_Alarm). I have a problem with the code below. When I click the button a second time the sound should stop, but I get an error like this:

I've been playing with the dynamic audio library standingwave 3. Almost the first thing one notices is that if one tries out the code samples in the developer's guide, namely this code:
[code]...
then one gets a really unpleasant sound and trace messages that read "AUDIO CLIPPING". The developer explains in one of the issue reports on github that you need to reduce the gain of samples when you mix them together to avoid this, and that there's no easy way to know dynamically how much reduction is needed. My question is, how is it that stangingwave2 seems to have dealt with this automatically? For instance, the code quoted above did not clip in SW2. Likewise consider this SW2 example demo - if you increase the sustain and hold (the S/H sliders) and press one of the sequence buttons, multiple tones will overlap without clipping, even though the source doesn't show any apparent sign of changing the gain or the volume of the sin tones, they just get mixed together. What's going on here - did SW2 have some way of dealing with this automagically, or is there some robust way of generally overlaying arbitrary numbers of sounds dynamically without causing clipping?

is there a way to play sounds one after another avoiding overlapping without using the SOUND_COMPLETE event by SoundChannel? I have a few sounds to be played in order and using SOUND_COMPLETE would take me to add to many listeners.

I'm looking for a (free) flash player that I can embed in my site and use to play a .m4a (.mp4 with AAC audio) file that will be obtained using a URL (i.e. it's not local to the server hosting the web page).I've tried searching on google for one, but either I'm searching wrong or no one has made such a thing. Ideally this would be very simple (small user interface with play button and maybe a progress bar) and it would be easy to have multiple instances of on an html page (can create the player with an <object> tag).

audio from Flash CS3 Video overlapping stopping the FLVPlayback instance (which has an instance name of theVideo) when another button is clicked! How do I stop flv playback when user clicks a navigation button ...
I'm using the attached code to go from the main stage to one subset of .swf files (loaded movies) and I apparently have no problems with overlapping. Hell, the files even seem to unload themselves correctly. Then, when I go to my second subset of .swf files (with the exact same AS3 structure), which has a Flash Video file (made by the FLV Playback component), I get into an overlapping problem associated with the audio. How can I stop, cancel, or unload the audio when the file is clicked away from (the user selects another button on the mainstage)?

I have a project which has a main swf file that is compiled with a bunch of classes. The main swf also loads in other child swf objects, created in the flash IDE, that happen to reference some of the same classes.
It seems redundant to have the child swfs include the main swfs classes, especially if I update the classes which means I have to recompile all the child swfs, not just the main swf.
Im using FlashDevelop 4.0 RC3 with Flex 4.6/AIR 3.1 to code the main swf, and the child swfs are flas made in CS5.
I was thinking of using SWC's, but I'm not sure how to incorporate that into FlashDevelops workflow. I tried the SWC export plugin but that doesnt seem to work very well, it attempts to export everything in the project and doesnt seem to offer me an option to be specific...
Surely there is a way to compile flas from the IDE and allow for classes to be used for compile type checking etc, but not actually include them in the compiled swf? I know with the flex command line compiler you can generate a link-report xml from the main swf then use that xml file to exlude classes from the compile of the child swfs, but I cant see how to do something like that when exporting swfs from the flash IDE.

The following AS3 code is sometimes causing the audio to play multiple times, almost simultaneously like a crazy echo. It usually works ok with that URL but when I use a [URL]... it always freaks out. On rare occasions I think the issue has happened with local files even. I copied this code from somewhere else so I don't entirely understand it. Do you see a problem with this implementation or is Flash just crazy?

I need a little advice. I've got a set of swfs that are all part of one training, and within these movies are a few sound effects attached to button instances. I want the user to be able to click a button to turn the sound on or off at any time during the training.
My first idea was to create a variable called wantSound, which each sound instance checks before deciding to play. This is working perfectly. There's a toggle switch on the main timeline that sets sound to on or off, and when a sound is supposed to play, it checks to see if wantSound=true, and plays, or if it is false, it does not.
This works fine on each individual .swf, but when a new .swf loads in, the sound defaults back to true, and the user has to turn it off again. I imagine this could be fixed by loading each movie into different levels instead of loading them into level0 or root, but as this is not how I originally created the file, that will take a lot of work to handle aligning the loaded movies and parking them (making sure none of the buttons are active on the level below). I'm lazy, what can I say? :-)
I've been looking around at similar questions, and found a decent tutorial on Macromedia's site about using javascript to pass a variable from flash to HTML. I went through that, and managed to get Flash to send my wantSound variable to HTML with no problem. Check here for the tutorial.
The only problem is that in macromedia's example for sending data from HTML back to Flash, they use a text field for getting the variable. I just want to take the variable sent from Flash to HTML and send it back to Flash when requested (at the beginning of the next SWF.)

I have 100 swf embedded in a page. The swf are various forms of individual audio playbacks.- an swf button that loads an swf into it that has audio on a timeline streamed. AS3
- swf that has streamed audio using scripting so there is no preloading. AS2Since I have 100 and the user could press all 50 at a time and have this giant noise of sounds and bog down their bandwidth. Is there anyway of:- stopping all playing of swfs that has streamed audio using timeline. I guess that could be like a ALL stop frame command??- stop all sounds coming from the streamed audio swf

Is there a way I can share sound assets between parent and child swfs?
Currently, I have a parent swf that loads a child swf (and each have preloaders) and some of them have the same sound assets. I would rather only load the sounds once... can I reference a sound even if it 'lives' in another swf?

I have a long timeline (5000+ frames) with cartoon animation and streaming dialogue sound on it. I've run into the dreaded audio sync problem. I found many discussions, peaking around 2005, but no solutions for this problem. I have a track of silence to ensure frame-dropping even between lines of dialogue. Prior to around 2000 frames the error is not noticeable.
My testing shows that playback is off by 2 frames per 1000 at 24fps. So at frame 10,000 the audio is out of sync with the graphics by 20 frames, nearly a second. This is predictable and reproducible on a variety of PCs and an iMac. I'm publishing to Flash 8 + AS2, but publishing to Flash 9 or Flash 10 don't make any difference at all.
I don't want to split this into multiple SWFs. Scenes don't help. Putting things into multiple movieclips would complicate my controls and our workflow. Just shifting the audio on the timeline is preferable to those solutions, but it makes maintenance difficult.

I have three embedded video clips that are inside of movieClips. They I have buttons that take you to a framelabel where those movieClips are located. Each movieClip containing each movie are on separate frames. (See attached image)
When I click on any of the buttons that take me to any videoClips other than the first one, make the audio from the previous embedded Video on the timeline in front of the one I went to , start to play.
I have SoundMixer.stopAll();
on everybutton before I tell it to go anywhere. what to do to only get audio from the video clip in that section of the timeline to play.

I have AIFF streaming audio in Flash CS4 (does it in CS5 too) and it sounds fine in Flash, but when I publish it I get a glitch/noise sound in a few places. It does this no matter what audio format I export, including RAW.The source doesn't have the glitch sound, it doesn't have it in Flash itself, but it does when I publish it.

So if I have several external swfs embedded in one big one, in what way can I communicate between them?Specifically,
-the main swf needs to know when buttons have been pressed in an embedded one, and it needs to tell all the other embedded ones about it.
-the embedded swfs need to intelligently resize and shuffle around each other, while keeping their coordinate origins in the top corner. How do I go about this?

Is it possible to access variables or even functions of an embedded SWF? (One which has been embedded manually and has not loaded from somewhere)For example, I embed an swf called Movie1 which contains a string variable declared in its root, would it be possible for the parent SWF to access that string?

I have a SWF (SWF A) that I'm loading into a movieclip (Movieclip C)which is part of another SWF (SWF B). Basically, SWF B functions as a player, with play and pause controls. These controls control Movieclip C where the external SWF A is loaded into.Normally, I have had no problem with this and it always works. At run time, when you click the pause button on SWF B, a stop() command is issued to Movieclip C, which stops the play of
the external movieclip (SWF A) loaded into it.However, I did a screen capture with Captivate and published it as a SWF. I loaded this SWF (SWF A) into Movieclip C in SWF B at run time. However, clicking the controls on SWF I created has NO EFFECT on the SWF I created in Captivate. It just keeps playing.I guess all SWFs are NOT created equal. How can I make this work?

I have a flash file, which I am using as the index for my site. Into this flash file, I have an external swf that loads for an introduction. In this external swf, the as is set up so as to be a full browser, scalable slideshow. The index swf has a horizontal menu bar, from which other external swfs can be loaded. As a side note, I don't know if this is indicative of something... the preloader also does not want to work with the externally loaded swf, but will work when a dummy photo placed in the main swf file.
When I bring this into dreamweaver, the swf that was loaded into the index swf is no longer full browser, allthough it works when I preview (ctrl + enter) from within flash. It does not work from within flash when I hit f12. Yes, the html wrapper is exported at 100% width and height. All the files are in the correct place, within the same folder. Also, the preloader doesn't work but it wasn't working from within flash with an externally loaded swf. getting a full browser flash external swfs to work once the main index swf is brought over into dreamweaver?

I am embedding a number of SWFs in my main Flash movie, and I need to call functions within those SWFs.This is no problem when loading the SWF as an external file, but when I use the [embed] directive to embed the SWF directly into my app there seems to be no way to access the functions?I tried numerous approaches, including waiting for the embedded SWF to be added to the stage, but it seems it just does not allow access. And unfortunately in my case, loading the SWFs separately is not a good solution.

Im creating a microsite which loads external SWFs with embedded FLVs in their timeline (each SWF has its own preloader). To control their audio (mute/unmute buttun), I have encoded & imported the FLVs & their audio tracks seperately in the SWFs. I'm controlling the audio tracks by attached them from library through the sound object.
Issue:
The FLV & audio run synced when I play them together in timeline. But they go off-sync when I play the audio though AS, rest assured that FLV & SWF have the same fps. I have even tried encoding the FLV at both the source video fps & SWF fps.[code]...

I read all of the threads on this forum about pausing audio in a swf. They were all very helpful - if you have control over the swf fla. However i have no control over the swf i am loading. I cannot find a way to reference a sound that is placed on the timeline of the movie. If i had access to the fla of the swf, then i could change the linkage, but again i don't possess the fla.
so does anyone out there know of a way to reference global sounds in a swf? In as 2.0, this could be done easily by declaring a new sound object without a target such as this: var gvol = new Sound();
I can't seem to make this work in AS3.
I need a way to reference a global sound in a swf, so i can then apply the SoundChannel to the sound object, and read the position property within
