ActionScript 3.0 :: Overwriting AddChild Or Dump The Contents Of A MovieClip
Sep 14, 2009
I am building a dynamic menu system with XML. Back in AS2 I would make a movieclip, then attachmovie and duplicate the attached movie. When I did this I could always over write the old data. Now in AS3, it seems to be overlaying or "stacking" on top of one another. So my question is, is there a way to overwite the addChild, or a way to dump the contents of a movieClip so I prepare it for another attachment? Here's a sample of the code I am using.
I have a movieclip in the library called flare that consists (for now) of nothing but a drawing of a pentagon. Its associated class is called Flare. The movieclip instantiates just fine, but I don't see the pentagon. When the clip is instantiated, it traces its x and its width. They are both 0. But the width should be 100.Boiled down to the extreme basics, I was getting the same result. What am I forgetting here???Document class
Code: package com { import flash.display.MovieClip;
I am using the following code to Pause, Fade-in & Play a streaming Mp3 from an external site:[code]The problem is that this file is never-ending and ultimately slows the computer WAY down. I'm assuming this has to do with the cache filling up with the never-ending Mp3 file.Does anyone know a way to periodically dump the Cache or... limit the amount of the file loaded into the Cache? Say 3-5 SecondsI am assuming a "DO NOT CACHE" code won't work as the Mp3 is streaming and requires a certain amount for uninterrupted play.
This is something I'm experimenting with, but haven't seemed to figure out... I have several MovieClips, basically the same, only different colors. As each one plays, I'd like it to "overlap" whichever one is already there. Right now I have each button linked to a gotoAndPlay function, but I don't think that will ever get me what I want. You can see how I have it now here: [URL]
Instead of having the content MovieClip go back to all white when a button is clicked, I'd like the preivious one to remain, and get "covered up" by the new one. You continue to see the old color, and the new color overlaps it. I have a feeling I need to use a variable and then addChild, with a removeChild for the old MovieClip after the new MovieClip has loaded, but I'm not getting any good results yet.
I have failed in generating core.I have added a line "ulimit -c unlimited" in server's start function. I killed the fmsedge process by "killall -6 fmsedge". The process do be killed but no core. file is seen in /opt/adobe/fms finally.
I have an MovieClip that loads a slideshow (imagerotator to be exact). I'm using AS2 loadMovie to achieve this. The images in the slideshow appear way oversized, extending the width of the entire stage. How to I constrain the size of the slideshow/MovieClip contents?All the images are going to be the same pixel dimensions so it doesn't have to be anything fancy.
I have built a simple Flash application that will be presented using a projector, the application will show messages in the form of questions that will come from a simple flat-file text file or XML file.
In addition to this I would also like to be able to add my own messages using a simple HTML form.
I've been looking around the web for some resources, but have been struggling to find what I am looking for. The basic idea is that the flash application will loop through these different messages from the XML, but then when a user types in a message that will also appear within these messages. Think of it as a sort of dynamic tag cloud.
I'm aware this is possible in AS3, but Im working in AS2... and (to make things difficult) I'm working on an offline application. It is going to be distributed via CD, will run through the application and then save the text inputs (basically an order form) as JPEG (unless it's possible to save to PDF - but as not all computers will have PDF writer I assume this is impossible)Am I correct in thinking I need to utilise the Bitmap Class? I'm using SWF Studio to wrap the application
I have 31 squares on stage named square1-31. Each square is defined as a movieclip. . Each square has a textbox within it named txtbox1-31. I also have an object in my library called marker.I am using a for loop to cycle through the squares. I need to evaluate the contents of each textbox in each movieclip and if it is not empty, addChild an object to the current square location. So far my cod is not working as AS3 doesn't recognize the name of my textboxes or their locations.
I'm customizing an xml flash website and while I can handle all the html and xml well enough, but in Flash, I have no clue how to: Now go on the stage, and delete the contents of the last layer(background & pattern). Here, add from the library, the square movieclip, and name it mcBackColor(see attached image).And then to add your swf background in the "background & pattern" layer from the main.fla file.
I can change the name, but don't know how to delete just the contents of the layer and then add the new clip.I've made a slideshow before and that's all I can do.
I want a MovieClip to play as its loading the content in the background, I already have the MC animated, the "loader", how do I do this! I tried this way
Thats all it works the only problem is, that I realized is that its dependent of connection speed, what I mean is that if you have a 200KB/s connection it will load so fast that it doesnt play the complete animation and I set the simulate download speed to like 50KB/s and it does play completely. So my question is will this happen when it's online?
I want to check the contents of 25 textboxes on stage. Each textbox is embedded inside of a movie clip. Using the counter on a for loop I want to cycle through all 25 textboxes and if they have text in them, i want to place an object overtop of that movie clip . For this example I will only use 3 movieclips, each containing a textbox. The movieclips are named mov1, mov2 and mov3 and the textboxes within them are named text1,text2 and text3
for(var i:uint = 1; i < 4; ++i) { var xloc="mov"+i.x var yloc="mov"+i.y
Batch duplicate a movieclip including its actionscript contents? and change a small part of the action script in each one, for example have it change '1.jpg' into '2.jpg' and so on?Actionscript
I have an image gallery which loads a detail image, then draws a line next to the image on one side based on image dimensions. Clicking on the image returns one back to the main image thumbnail list, then clicking a thumb loads another image into detail holder. Everything works fine with it, except that the lines, rather than disappearing upon detail image unload, accumulate. Is there a way to clear the contents of the lineDrawing MovieClip without removing it from the stage, so that I can draw a new line in it? I've tried removeChild on the MovieClip, but then the lines disappear entirely, same with placing lineDrawing.clear() at the top of the setupDetail function.
var detailImage:Loader = new Loader(); var lineDrawing:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); setupDetail(); function setupDetail():void {
I have around 20 buttons that together make a map of USA. I am using AS3 tool tip, which display name of region on mouse-over. I want to create a movieclip which will house all these 20 buttons and their actions(basically put everything under one movieclip).
But when I do that everything works fine but the tool tip gets dispalced. It appears almost at the edge of the stageAny way to make it appear near the mouse cursor?
Code I am using for tool tip is:
Button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, mouseOverHandler1); function mouseOverHandler1(e:MouseEvent):void { //creating a new tooltip instance
I am trying to print a snapshot of the contents of a movieclip on the stage...this snapshot is stored in a bmp...then the bmp is attached to a movieclip which is rotated 90 degrees to fit on the page in landscape fashion...so the user doesn't have to alter their printer settings...however when I do mc.rotation = -90; or mc.rotation -= 90; the printout on the page is the bmp sliced diagonally in half...and one half isn't showing...when I tried +90 it worked, but the mc wasn't placed correctly on the page...I also tried +270, and that produced the half cut diagonal bmp again...here is my print code..
On my stage I have a movie clip called 'm1'. I also have a variable 'i' which is equal to 1. if I load in a bitmap (called 'bmp') and then use: this["m"+i].addChild(bmp) it attaches the bitmap to the movie clip - no problem. However, if I have a second movie clip WITHIN 'm1' (let's say this second movie clip is called 'mm1') - I can't figure out how to dynamically attach the bitmap to the second movie clip. this["m"+i].this["mm"+1].addChild(bmp) doesn't work....
I am having ongoing issue with using addChild(). Everything else works. The code below now loads all thirty five images and the addChild command is used directly on the Bitmap in initHandler in the ButtonClass.as excerpt below. Now I commented out the line that I was going to use to add these Bitmaps as children of the MovieClip in placeThumbnail function in the FLA. So I believe the only problem I have left is finding a way to get the Bitmaps to be children of the correct MC //This code excerpt is from ButtonClass.as
public function imgLoad(buttonMC:MovieClip) { imgLoader = new Loader(); imgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, finished_loading); imgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT, initHandler); var link=buttonMC.entry_thumbnail; [Code] .....
i've been trying to add a child to a movieclip that already exists on the stage using a timer event. i can't get this to work. i have been able to add a child through other events such as mouse down but this one wont work. here is the code for the timer.
var person:MovieClip; var peopleFrequency:uint = 400; var peopleTimer:Timer =new Timer(peopleFrequency);
when i didnt use classes, i could easy attach my custom variables to movieclips using this code;movieclip.customvariable = value;but now I am working with classes, and it isnt possible anymore.I am trying to attach variables chip and sensor to the child like this: [eiland1 is the movieclip]eiland1.chip=1;eiland1.sensor=teller1;but then I get this error:1119: Access of possibly undefined property chip through a reference with static type Eiland.the same goes for the sensor variable.
I have a movieclip in the library with Linkage "Holder". The movieclip has 40 blank keyframes I add it at runtime using var timeline_mc:MovieClip = new Holder(); I want to add a loaded image content to each blank keyframe like this:
function loadImages():void { addChild(timeline_mc); timeline_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, testCycle);
[code]....
This adds the images but not to the currentFrame, it adds them all to the first frame. Is there a way to add to the frame the movieclip is currently at?
Im having a problem adding a child to a nested movieclip.the main movieclip is instanced when the user clicks on the create gallery button.the code then proceeds to create x movieclips(productFrames) with nested movieclips(imageFrame) with instance name:imageFrame1 & dynamic text frames(title & genus) & then add text to those frames & an image to one of the nested mcs
the problem seems to be with productFrame.imageFrame1.addChild(imageLoader); productFrame.genus.text="Loaded "+kbLoaded+" of "+kbTotal+" KB";
I want to overwrite a XML file on my localhost, I always geta error "Error #1088: "The markup in the document following theroot element must be well-formed."AS3:
function upload():void { trace("upload"); str1 = "<?xml version='1.0'
