ActionScript 3.0 :: Parsing XML Based On Attribute?

Jun 1, 2009

I have an XML file I'm parsing out into a Flash movie. The XML contains multiple nodes, and within those nodes are multiple attributes.So, for example, there is a node called FirstNode. In that is an attribute FirstNodeID="1" and then there is another node, also called FirstNode which has an attribute of FirstNodeID="2". Each node also has attributes called Header and Body and so on.

What I'm wondering is, how do I call out specific things based on an attribute?Right now, when I call the Header attribute from FirstNode I get ALL of the Header information from ALL of the FirstNode nodes. I need to be able to get JUST the info from FirstNodeID="1", FirstNodeID="2" and so on as needed.

[Code]...

I'd like to be able to be able to simply rename the dynamic text fields and then only paste in the actionscript that defines what nodes to pull the text from and what fields to put it into. So everything from the //MAIN TEXT area in the actionscript above.

Xml :: Flex Tag Attribute Value / Property Parsing?

Sep 24, 2010

have an RSS feed, within Flex I have connected to the feed via HTTPService, the XML structure is as follows (not exact, but for the purpose of the question). I am able to walk down the xml and access the data within the title and link nodes with success but when I get the the description node and try to access the img and src attributes within it, I haven't had any success. Reading about parsing with e4x the example I get is:

var xList:XMLList = xData.channel.item.description.(attribute("src"));
or
var xList:XMLList = xData.channel.item.description.(@src);

I want to be able to get the data contained in the "thumb" tags using the "name" attribute value of the parent tag as a selector, something like you would do in jQuery: $('set[name="pdf"]').find('thumb');Is there a method like this in Action Script 2 (can't use AS3)?

Actionscript 3 :: Atom Feed Xmlns Attribute Messes Up XML-parsing?

Jan 21, 2010

Wanna see something interesting?

var xml:XML = XML(<feed><entry /><entry /><entry /></feed>);
trace(xml.entry.length()) // returns 3

Makes sense, right? Now let's add this attribute. var xml:XML = XML(<feed xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"><entry /><entry /><entry /></feed>); trace(xml.entry.length()) // returns 0

Well that can't be right. Let's try it with a different attribute.

var xml:XML = XML(<feed test="okay"><entry /><entry /><entry /></feed>);trace(xml.entry.length()) // returns 3

Anyone know what would cause this? I used atom as an example, but any 'xmlns' attribute on the root node seems to have this effect. The value returned is straight up false - there are obviously still 3 'entry' child nodes regardless of the attributes their parents possess.

How would I go about re-ordering the new array I've created?

_xml.y.rs.r.cs.c.(child("is").(i.@t == "f")).@n
_xml.y.rs.r.cs.c.(child("is").i.(@t == "f")).@n

The problem is that the selector either returns too many or too few nodes.

Flex :: Make Default Attribute Values In XML Get Parsed In Based On XSD Schema?

Jun 16, 2009

I have an xml with an xml-schema. The xml-schema defines an abstract complex type with 2 optional attributes that have default values. Then I have several complex types that extend the base one. And finally nodes of the types defined.So I load the xml and when I parse each node, the optional attributes are not present at all.I've tried fooling around with the namespaces, even[code]...

No luck. Something similar was being experienced by this guy on codingforums, but that was like 5 years ago. Same is happening to me with firefox 3.0.11 - the xml is shown without the default attributes.For now I'm setting the default values in code, but isn't there a way to make them available from the xml-schema?[code]...

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash Attribute Tags - Add In Custom Attribute Tags That Flash Can Recover?

Dec 15, 2006

I have been trying to figure out how you could add in custom attribute tags that flash can recover.

EX:
<param name = "movie" value = "somefile.swf">
<embed src = "somefile.swf" width = "550" height = "400">

Except, that I would like to add a Custom tag, like "randNum" so that the tag user could input some number, or rather, a flash movie could generate a tag with a number already put in...Basically, heres a really basic version of the idea.There is a Flash Movie.In the movie, you can input text into a textfield.Upon finishing your message, you click a button "save".

The flash movie then:

1. Comes up with a random number unique to the message.

2. Assigns that number to a variable... "randNum".

3. Saves message as a xml file to the server as "filename" + randNum.

4. Outputs into a textfield a generated HTML tag that a user can post on myspace and such so that it will load in the flash movie.

Except... in the tag, there will be a custom attribute. If the random number variable "randNum" was 00112233, the custom attribute will be 00112233.

EX:
<embed src = "somefile.swf" width = "550" height = "400" randNum = "00112233">

So when the movie opens, it retrieves that randNum from the tag and can use it inside flash. How can this be done? Sorry this post was so long, but I wanted everyone to understand the concept.

Flash :: Web Based Visual Programming Interface Based On Python For Data Visualization

Nov 4, 2011

I just discovered impure.com and was very impressed by what can be achieved in terms of visualizing data using their workspace. Although the platform is free to use, but not open source yet. This causes a few problems because the API section works with .com sites for eg. for ebay, so I cannot visualize ebay listings for regional sites such as ebay.in because the link to ebay.com is hardcoded.I searched around, but didn't find other projects that offer a similar way to work with site APIs and other data sources with the kind of user interface and detail that impure.com does in a realtime way within a browser window.This brings me to the questions:

-What technologies would be involved in creating a similar kind of project

-What are the open source tools that can help develop a fullscreen UI to render the workspace. Are there any alternatives to flash for this, and how do they compare

The goal would be to use standard python data structures, python scripts to do some processing on these data structures, scripts to gather data from csv, json and API sources such as google yahoo, wikipedia and flickr, and scripts to render graphs, tag clouds, network visualizations etc. Then bring them all together into a visual interface that supports drag drop and simple type checking.How would the python backend integrate with the UI.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Parsing XML To Flash?

Sep 26, 2008

This is my first day to try and use XML to display dynamic text in Flash. My skillset is weak with AS3 and Flash, but I found some tutorials online and I have managed to successfully display the first record in mytest.swf. However I also seem to have all records displaying in each dynamic text box as well. My loop isn't stopping after each record. It's reading everything. And dumping the results into each text field.

I need to only display each record individually. Once I accomplish that, I will need to include some form of navigation. Lets say buttons that perform a NEXT, PREVIOUS, LAST, FIRST type function. Then lastly, I'll need to include some type of search navigation option by item number. I assume that I'd have to have a second screen that links to my primary results screen with an input form for the item number.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Parsing The XML Namespace?

Sep 28, 2009

I am attempting to parse some weather information from the Yahoo weather RSS feed.This is a typical XML node;

<description>Yahoo! Weather for Palm Springs, CA</description>

I used the typical XML parsing code in as2;

var text1 = this.firstChild.childNodes[0].childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue;
txt1.text = text1;

I was doing pretty good until I reached a node that was formatted thus;

<yweather:forecast day="Mon" date="28 Sep 2009" low="74" high="103" text="Sunny" code="32" />

This text traced a value of undefined.I have tried to research this and so far all I have been able to find out, is that this is a XML namespace and is very easily handled in as3. Unfortunately I have to use as2.How do I parse out this information into a dyamic text fields?
