I'm pretty good when it comes to PHP, MySQL or HTML but I'm totally lost in AS.I have a project in Flash Builder 4 that I'm trying to add something to that was built in Flash Professional. It's supposed to loas a couple of external AS files, then execute functions from them at a certain point in the application. I know where I want the functions to execute in the application, and I have linked the AS files to "test.as" which is the main AS file for "testapp.mxml". The problem is calling the "Detector" function from inside "FaceDetector.as" which is one of the external AS files. What is the best way to do the following.[code]I want to start the script and let it do what it's supposed to do inside the application at that given time.

Sep 4, 2009I am a complete novice when it comes to flash and web design in general. I have purchased a flash template [URL] which I have been able to customise to my liking for a small production company. I am now completely stuck when it comes to integrating videos within the site.
I understand that I need to have an Xml playlist and some action script that references the videos to the player, but I have no clue on what to do.
I am looking to have a video begin as soon as the site loads and then have the buttons on the orange bar allow the user to navigate between other flv files. I would possibly be interested in including firther links on the video samples page.

Feb 27, 2011I could create a program for him in flash which would be able to play sounds corresponding to keys on the keyboard, but split in to 3 groups, and only 1 sound from each group can be playing at a time. I don't know that much about as3, and I told him this but said I would try anyway. The first thing I came up with was this:[code]In there, there's nothing to stop the sounds overlapping or looping like in my other solution, also it's obviously a lot less compact, but I sent it to my friend like that to see if it would at least play instantly. The response I got was that, although the lag was noticeably less, it was still present.

Feb 4, 2011I have an AIR app that gets bundled with XML files that the app needs. These get put into the APP Storage Directory, of course. Works great. But when I install a new version ( which includes new XML files) , the new files don't get added or overwrite the ones from the previous version. It seems that if that directory is there from a previous install, the installer will ignore the part where it moves included files.

If I use the the tag, I can do it; however the xml compiles into my swf. How can I retain the xml file in my release build?

Jul 19, 2011I'm working on making a pretty chunky game engine for games I plan on making, but I was wondering if you make external AS files unopenable such as .lib files, so that if I give it to a friend that wants to use it, he/she cannot change my code. Is there anyway to make external AS files unopenable? Also, obfuscation isn't an option for this problem as it only stops the people who hack the finished product, not stopping people who have access to the actual files.

May 28, 2007Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

And I have gallery.swf file that loads subgallery.swf.The jpeg images and both swf files are in the same folder.When I test gallery.swf it loads subgallery.swf but subgallery.swf doesn't load images. When testing subgallery.swf alone, it loads jpeg files.Is there any limitation or setting preventing external swfs loading other content?

Aug 21, 2009I've created a Flex application and the size of the swf file is ~900KB. My trouble is that the files are not getting cached. When I launch the application for the second time, the swf file is fetched again from the server. I'm including the swf file in a jsp, and I'm not modifying any HTTP Caching Headers. I assumed that the swf files will be cached automatically. Isn't it so? How do I forcefully cache the file? Do I need to provide anything in the MXML code or just a response.setHeader("Cache-Control","max-age=100"); is enough? Can anything be done from the flex side itself?

There is a bank of 10 images. The user selects any 5 images they want. The user saves those 5 images as a slideshow / powerpoint / executable file?
Are there other utilities that can do this kind of thing? Is flash the wrong development tool? Are there other tools out there that perform this type of function?
Google has provided no results for me. I've often lurked through the forums here and I thought that maybe the community here may have some answers as I can't seem to find them anywhere.

May 3, 2009I've got an external .as file in the same folder as my flash file. In the process of writing the code, whenever I make a change and then test the movie, the flash movie is obviously still looking at the OLD information. I tried using the "Delete ASO Files" on the menu, to no avail.I can' find these ASO files anywhere on mycomputer.Aha! I tried something else. I quit flash,restarted and ran the same script with no changes. It returned the data correctly, but then gave me this unpleasant message:256 levels of recursion were exceeded in one action list.This is probably an infinite loop.Further execution of actions has been disabled in this movie.There are no loops of any kind in the code, which is below.

Sep 8, 2009I've run into some problems trying to handle large text files in AIR (300+ MB in size). I can open a filestream and read the file just fine and even store it into a string variable. the problem occurs when i try to manipulate this data. Im trying to get each line as an element in an array so i can manipulate this data.Here's what i've tried:1. read the file into a string variable and perform a split looking for the newline character ). this freezes the program2. i've tried reading the file in one byte at a time and putting each line into an array AS it is being read from the filestream. This not only takes long but eventually freezes.
3. i've tried splitting the final string variable which contains the entire text file into chunks to process it separately.4. i've even tried putting the file contents into a sqlite database, but this also freezes.At this point, im not sure what my options are. Is AIR even equipped to manipulate data at this level? I could use a point in the right direction
