ActionScript 3.0 :: Making External Sound Files Play Instantly?
Feb 27, 2011
I could create a program for him in flash which would be able to play sounds corresponding to keys on the keyboard, but split in to 3 groups, and only 1 sound from each group can be playing at a time. I don't know that much about as3, and I told him this but said I would try anyway. The first thing I came up with was this:[code]In there, there's nothing to stop the sounds overlapping or looping like in my other solution, also it's obviously a lot less compact, but I sent it to my friend like that to see if it would at least play instantly. The response I got was that, although the lag was noticeably less, it was still present.

the site i'm currently helping out with has an audio clip that gets loaded in through xml, I want this to only play once and then halt, but if the user wanted to click on the volume button it could start on up again without a hassle.

I have only two days to get this working and handed in. My class did not teach actionscript, the code for keeping sounds playing through multiple scenes was provided for us :
var mySound:Sound = new soundtrack();
mySound.play();
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work in actionscript 3..... and my entire movie is actionscript three. It won't let me save down or convert it or anything.... and I can't get my stuff into another file without screwing it all up.

When my avatar bug makes contact with another type of bug, he eats it. Both bugs are movie clips; when the avatar gets into the collision detect zone of the edible bug, it triggers a quick animation in the "edible" bug: he becomes a blur for one frame then disappears (as though eaten).
The problem is the sound effect - a quick "whoosh". It needs to play once then stop. What happens now is that it's triggered repeatedly - a problem if the avatar passes over the edible bug slowly. If the avatar later passes over the spot where the edible bug was, the sound is triggered multiple times again. So I need the sound to play only once, then stop. There will be several copies of the edible bug's movie clip that need to behave the same way, so once the sound stops playing it needs to be available again for the next collision.
Here's what it looks like now:
private var sfx_edible:Sound = new eat();
function detectCollision(myevent:Event):void {
if (avatar_mc.hitTestPoint(edible_a.x, edible_a.y, false)==true) {
[code]....

I'm using the AS3WavSound [URL] class to playback externally loaded wavs. This is working successfully. The library is simple and effective.
After decoding the Wav ByteArray the method the library employs for playback is using the SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA event and then writing the mixed samples to the output stream.
player.addEventListener(SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA, onSamplesCallback);
private function onSamplesCallback( evt : SampleDataEvent ):void
{
[Code]....
My problem is that I need to silence this audio output immediately but whatever method I have tried there is a distinct (1 second approx) delay before the silence takes effect.
As you can see I've attempted to add a boolean to block any samples being written to the output stream but this has had no effect on the delay.
My suspicion is that this is a fundamental part of how the samples are buffered and then written out. Essentially by the time a user action on screen (clicking a mute button) has been called and the _mute boolean is set to true there are already samples waiting to be written to the output that cannot be affected.

I'm having trouble making a sound play at an exact millisecond sinde framerate and timers are not 100% precise. First I tried creating a timer and playing the sound every second. But this causes delay. I can't think of any other way... I'm trying to create a game that marks the rythm precisely by playing small sound clips every specific amount of milliseconds.

I am trying to develop my first flash app. The application emulates a "karaoke" service. It plays a background sound and at the same time records the sound coming from the mic. I use the "sound" class to play the sound (s.play() ) and the "netStream" class to record the mic sound (ns.publish("mysound", "record") ). In the same app, I then try to play these two sounds together. The problem is that I cannot synchronize them. My tests drove me to a conclusion which I am not certain for. The conclusion is that the method s.play() has a delay about 500ms until the sound starts playing. The result is that recording starts 500ms earlier than playback. When, then, I playback both of them the recording sound is 500ms after the backround sound. Is that delay for sure true?

I'm working on a game that loops a random sound file everytime the user goes to the menu. When I tried the simulate download in the preview menu, it took a long time to load the first frame (which is a preloader). I found the problem was that in the linkage for the sound files I said "Export on first frame" so i unchecked that box, but then when I tried playing again, the sound wouldn't load.So, I'm wondering, is there a way to play sound files through ActionScript without having to load them on the first frame?

I've had some trouble making a preloader for external .jpg files. The problem is in the onEnterFrame, I'll show you some part:
PHP Code:
loadjpg = function(mc,jpg) {mc.onEnterFrame = function() {trace("lele"); } }
that is just a part of the hole function, but I think it will be enough. It traces "lele" once, not when mc enters a new frame. I've also tried to call it with different ways like:
[mc].onEnterFrame, with (mc) { onEnterFrame() .

I'm having some trouble getting Haxe to play audio files in Flash 8.At the top of my hx file, I have:import flash.MovieClip;import flash.Sound;and, within the class itself, I preload a lot of image files along with the names of the audio files.The idea is to do a slideshow with audio content. Basically, display the first slide and play the audio associated with it.Then, once that audio is finished, move on to the next slide and next audio file. I have the slides fading in and out okay but when I tried to add sound, nothing comes out the speakers.The following code is what I'm doing - the sound file associated with audios[0] never starts playing and I'm at a loss as to why.
class Whatever {
static var master : MovieClip;
static var slides : Array<MovieClip>;

I have some audio files on my http server, and I would like to write a Flash client in ActionScript3 to load those audio file and play them smoothly. Of course I can just create a Sound object and load it by .load() with a URL request. But for saving the bandwidth, I prefer to load audio file chunks on demand. For example, there is an audio file let's say 100MB. If we try to load as fast as possible when user open the page
<--------- 100MB ----------->
The downloading may finished within minutes, but let's say, if user stop listener in halfway, that's kind of waste to load whole soundtrack at first.
<--------- 100MB ----------->
^--- user may stop here
To solve the problem, I think it's better to split the big audio file into small chunks, load and play them on demands.
<--- 10MB ---><--- 10MB ---><--- 10MB ---> ...
^--- user current position
I want to design the player, let it load audio chunk by chunk, and only load it when it's near the end of current chunk.
How to load those chunks and play them smoothly? I can probably create Sound object for each chunks. But how to play them seamless?

Is there any simple way you can access a very short sound file in flash without having to play it in an flv player. its just a ding sound to play when the user hits a button in the presentation.Also is it possible to access an external pic file and then convert it in to a symbol to be used within my presentation.I just don't want to store these files to keep my main swf small.

I'm porting a simple application from browser-based to iPhone. It plays some external sound files. There are 2 main steps:
1) Load an external XML file that contains sound file paths.
2) Load the sound files.
Can this be done with iPhone or do I need to move everything into the .fla file and then just publish it to iPhone?

I've created an audio player with actionscript 3 which plays one of 55 different sounds, depending on a variable set from which button a user clicks on. It works fine for the first 1 or 2 plays, but after that the sound begins to double-up, or even triple-up. I'm using the code below./First I declare a few variables:
var sound:Sound;
var controller:SoundChannel;
var pausePos:Number = 0;
var audioReset:Boolean = false;
var playerObject:Object = new Object();//
The sound functions are placed within another function so that it can be called again once a new button is selected:
function audiofunc() {
//if the user is selecting a second audio file, it runs this "audioReset function to try to clear the EventListeners[code]....
audiofunc(); I'm assuming that somehow an EventListener isn't getting removed, so it's causing a few versions of the audio file to play at once. If I trace the value of pausePos, it starts to appear in multiples (the same number, but 2, 3 or 4 times) after a few plays of the different audio files.

I have several flash games and quizzes that I now want to put together as a collection on a CD ROM as a bumper pack to buy. I wasn't sure of the best way to do that but I figured that I can create a flash file with individuals buttons on that when pressed loads that SWF's into the main page and plays which I'll export as a standalone player.
Sound good that's just what I wanted, only problem now is that the sound objects that are in the various games no longer play What do I need to do so that they will play as they do when I play each SWF on their own? (Hopefully without too much re-programming of the original games as there are quite a few)

I am a complete novice when it comes to flash and web design in general. I have purchased a flash template [URL] which I have been able to customise to my liking for a small production company. I am now completely stuck when it comes to integrating videos within the site.
I understand that I need to have an Xml playlist and some action script that references the videos to the player, but I have no clue on what to do.
I am looking to have a video begin as soon as the site loads and then have the buttons on the orange bar allow the user to navigate between other flv files. I would possibly be interested in including firther links on the video samples page.

It's possible to play a sound file through AS, either by loading it from a folder or import it to flash. It's also possible to play a dynamic tone with flash.media.Sound + writeFloat.
But... is it possible to play a sound file with flash.media.Sound + writeFloat in some way? I want to play a sound file without having to deal with any files except the .swf!

I´ve made a site for myself in flash (AS 2) and it works great. But one thing that I havent got the knowledge for is that I would like to have my own sound library.Anyway what I want is a xml updatable library, a simple list of sounds for visitors to download for free! A preview of the sound is also something that I need. The sounds are mostly very short sounds, so a rollover should work i think.[code]If there is someone here who would like to help me with this? Just to get me started. I fully understand if someone here thinks like, wow thats alot to ask for! how rude and so on, but if there is someone that maybe thinks that this could be fun or interesting and would like to give it a shot.
