ActionScript 3.0 :: Making Sound Play Through All Scenes?
Aug 26, 2010
I have only two days to get this working and handed in. My class did not teach actionscript, the code for keeping sounds playing through multiple scenes was provided for us :
var mySound:Sound = new soundtrack();
mySound.play();
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work in actionscript 3..... and my entire movie is actionscript three. It won't let me save down or convert it or anything.... and I can't get my stuff into another file without screwing it all up.

Most of my flash movies have been reasonable sizes, but the one I'm working on now is kind of a beast. It's up against the 16000 frame limit, so I'm looking into ways to chop it up. The problem is that I need a way to keep my background music playing across multiple scenes or movies. Is there a way to start a sound file in one movie, and have it continue when another scene is loaded or when a second movie file is loaded with ActionScript?

whenever I set my sound to stream and continue to make a movie with multiple scenes. The audio and video get disgustingly out of sync sometimes even off by 30 seconds. I just started an animation its only 10 seconds long with two scenes and the AV is already off by about 5 seconds. Ive worked around this by avoiding scenes altogether but i really don't want to have another 5000 frame scene. I discovered this problem in Flash MX and Im quite annoyed that it still has't been fixed 3 years later!

the site i'm currently helping out with has an audio clip that gets loaded in through xml, I want this to only play once and then halt, but if the user wanted to click on the volume button it could start on up again without a hassle.

When my avatar bug makes contact with another type of bug, he eats it. Both bugs are movie clips; when the avatar gets into the collision detect zone of the edible bug, it triggers a quick animation in the "edible" bug: he becomes a blur for one frame then disappears (as though eaten).
The problem is the sound effect - a quick "whoosh". It needs to play once then stop. What happens now is that it's triggered repeatedly - a problem if the avatar passes over the edible bug slowly. If the avatar later passes over the spot where the edible bug was, the sound is triggered multiple times again. So I need the sound to play only once, then stop. There will be several copies of the edible bug's movie clip that need to behave the same way, so once the sound stops playing it needs to be available again for the next collision.
Here's what it looks like now:
private var sfx_edible:Sound = new eat();
function detectCollision(myevent:Event):void {
if (avatar_mc.hitTestPoint(edible_a.x, edible_a.y, false)==true) {
[code]....

I'm having trouble making a sound play at an exact millisecond sinde framerate and timers are not 100% precise. First I tried creating a timer and playing the sound every second. But this causes delay. I can't think of any other way... I'm trying to create a game that marks the rythm precisely by playing small sound clips every specific amount of milliseconds.

I am trying to develop my first flash app. The application emulates a "karaoke" service. It plays a background sound and at the same time records the sound coming from the mic. I use the "sound" class to play the sound (s.play() ) and the "netStream" class to record the mic sound (ns.publish("mysound", "record") ). In the same app, I then try to play these two sounds together. The problem is that I cannot synchronize them. My tests drove me to a conclusion which I am not certain for. The conclusion is that the method s.play() has a delay about 500ms until the sound starts playing. The result is that recording starts 500ms earlier than playback. When, then, I playback both of them the recording sound is 500ms after the backround sound. Is that delay for sure true?

I could create a program for him in flash which would be able to play sounds corresponding to keys on the keyboard, but split in to 3 groups, and only 1 sound from each group can be playing at a time. I don't know that much about as3, and I told him this but said I would try anyway. The first thing I came up with was this:[code]In there, there's nothing to stop the sounds overlapping or looping like in my other solution, also it's obviously a lot less compact, but I sent it to my friend like that to see if it would at least play instantly. The response I got was that, although the lag was noticeably less, it was still present.

I have five different scenes all including three different buttons. When I test the buttons in "play scene" - all buttons sounds correctly in all scenes. But when I play movie, there is sound only with one button (the same button in every scene). I have looked for differences, but this button seem to have all the same parameters as the others.

I have created a X-mas card for my company. When the card opens, the 3 circles are buttons to different scenes within Flash. The text in the bottom left is a button to the final scene.
The card can be viewed here: [URL]
1) When I click on the circle button that has the red garland and tree ornaments in it, if you listen close at the very beginning of the scene, a squeek sound plays. I use this squek sound in the hamster wheel movie symbol used in other scenes, but not in this scene. I don't even have the sound in this scene of the Flash project anywhere. I can not figure out where it is coming from.
2) Does anyone have some optimization tips? My project file is huge and a lot of the people we will be sending this out to probably don't have the most up-to-date processers. Should I split each scene into it's own Flash movie that is only loaded when the button for that scene is selected instead of the whole thing loading?
Here is a link to view the .FLA file: [URL]

I'm doing a project that I have to use scenes in, I have a sound object that i want to be able to control in all scenes. I set up global variables for the sound object and a boolean to check if the sounds currently playing like this :
PHP Code:
_global.sound1= new Sound();
_global.sound1.attachSound("song");
_global.soundplaying = 0;
In each scene I have two buttons a stop and a play button, Heres my code for play:
PHP Code:
if(!_global.soundplaying){
_global.sound1.start();
_global.soundplaying = 1;
}
And stop:
PHP Code:
_global.stewielaugh.stop();
_global.soundplaying = 0;
Doesn't seem to work, if I press play in scene one and go to scene 2 and then return to scene one the sound can be played again on top of the already playing sound object.

I've set a music sound to play across three scenes in my movie. However, when the user clicks to enter the fourth scene, I'd like the music to stop. Simple enough.
Here's the problem...the fourth scene contains individual keyframes in the scene where I have separate voice overs for each frame. The user navs forward or backward among the scene's keyframes using arrow buttons for forward and backward. How can I have the voice over stop playing on frame 1 if the user clicks the arrow to go to frame 2 if the frame 1 sound isn't finished playing? Frame 1 plays out until finished, even if the user has clicked to go to frame 2.
Then, on return to the main scene where the general music file played, I'd like it to resume playing upon the user clicking 'return home.'
Incidentally, I set up my sound files to play on a soundtrack timeline.

I'm making an interactive kind of game, and I want a number of scenes to change once the user has looked at each once.For example, they go into three different scenes. When they finish looking at them all, Flash records this, and then when they look back at each scene again, they've all changed.

I currently have a movie, about 12 scenes long. I have a sound control that loops the track I have the user select repeatedly. But because I wanted music to always play unless they manually turned down the volume in my controls I load the music each time the main scene is loaded... This ends all of the other sounds and just restarts the first track in my list.
Here's the code:
For the main frame, inside a movie clip placed on scene 1:
stop ();
stopAllSounds ();
setProperty ("playing1", _visible, "1");
setProperty ("playing2", _visible, "0");
[Code]....
All I want this to do is keep playing the track the user selected, and not have to reset everytime the main scene is loaded...

I simply don't understand why now at the end of my project, the last 5 frames are giving me such trouble. I have five scenes. The first scene plays fine. Second scene plays fine until just the end, then it grabs audio from the third, fourth and fifth scenes and starts playing them. Here is the site: [URL] (it is a site for children in Swedish) if you click the 3rd button to the right (3 Delan) you will notice that the sound starts truncating and then starts grabbing and placing into scenes before the next scene.

Situation: I have a project I'm working on where I have buttons which make click sounds on their own, and also take you to other scenes where a sound will immediately play. There are also three movieclips involved, total my base movieclip and two independent ones that load on top of that. Problem: I want to include a Mute button so that you can turn off all sounds, but can't figure out how to do that..As I understand it, stopAllSounds won't work for me, because as soon as someone hits another button, a new sound will play.

I am trying to build a very simple Flash app in CS4. All I want to do is have JPGs overlayed over a sound layer in a series of scenes. I want a basic intro scene that ends w/ a table of contents from where you can click to view any scene. At the end of each scene is a frame where the user can replay the current scene, return to the TOC frame in scene 1 or proced to the next scene. I am having two SERIOUS problems.
1. For some reason my movie is NOT stopping at the "stop ();" action at the end of scene one. the action is on its own keyframe in the timeline, but when I "test movie" it just plays right past that to scene 2.
2. I obviously need multiple buttons on a scene to do different things on click. Does it really have to be as complicated as it seems to have multiple buttons all do different things on click? I keep getting told I have duplicate actions when I have two buttons on a page that do different things on click. I have named each button instance a unique name and written the gotoandplay click event using those unique instance names.

I have created my first Flash CS4 presentation. It includes nine, mostly text, scenes, with no audio or video. The entire presentation has a row of nine circles across the top that distinguishes each chapter (scene) of the presentation. The presentation (movie) currently plays without stopping.Now my client wants to be able to click on each circle to pause/play the presentation at that chapter (scene), skip a chapter (scene), or go back to play a previous viewed chapter (scene).Can anyone recommend a simple scene pause/play script I can add to each circle (which will now become buttons)?

I am making an interactive game for a school project that has an intro and a main part consisting of multiple scenes. I'm curious if I can have a song from my library play throughout multiple scenes. One song for the intro scenes, and another for the scenes that make up the actual game.
I also have a point in the game where you can get a 'game over' screen and an option to restart. I'm wanting the song to restart only at this point.

It's possible to play a sound file through AS, either by loading it from a folder or import it to flash. It's also possible to play a dynamic tone with flash.media.Sound + writeFloat.
But... is it possible to play a sound file with flash.media.Sound + writeFloat in some way? I want to play a sound file without having to deal with any files except the .swf!

I´ve made a site for myself in flash (AS 2) and it works great. But one thing that I havent got the knowledge for is that I would like to have my own sound library.Anyway what I want is a xml updatable library, a simple list of sounds for visitors to download for free! A preview of the sound is also something that I need. The sounds are mostly very short sounds, so a rollover should work i think.[code]If there is someone here who would like to help me with this? Just to get me started. I fully understand if someone here thinks like, wow thats alot to ask for! how rude and so on, but if there is someone that maybe thinks that this could be fun or interesting and would like to give it a shot.

I'm trying to add sound to some buttons. It's just a little metallic 'klink' sound that plays on rollover. I only want the sound to play on the 'Over' state. So I've set up a layer (just for sound) for the button and I add my sound in the 2nd frame (the Over state). Everything is cool. All is good. And the sound plays on rollover. But the sound also plays when I click the button (i.e. it also plays on the "Down" state). Why? The Down state keyframe is completely empty. What's going on here? I've only put the sound in the "Over" keyframe, why does it also play in the "Down" frame (or when I click)?
