I want to load an external text file, and display loading percentage in flash,so I could show user how far loading is completed.And the problem is I can see progress in trace window,no progross message displays in the textfield,only when my text is completly loaded,the whole text shows in flash.

I am trying to preload an mp3 file dynamically while showing the typical 'percentage loaded' in a dynamic text box. However for some reason, the percentage just doesn't count up - it freezes on 100% even though the mp3 file is still loading. I have included the code that I'm using below. Also, does anyone know what would be the best way to adjust this code so that I could preload multiple mp3 files at the same time or one after another?

View 4 RepliesI have a preloader in my file.At the end of the preloader completion event, i am loading 12 swf files from outside using individual loader. Now problem is, i need to display loading percentage in text for preloader. But, the percentage shoud cover all swf loding also. it mean, from preloader, starts, it has to start from 1 and end of the 12th swf loader completetion,it should display 100%.

One difference is that my buttons are located in the Transition movie clip and the loadText dynamic text field(where the percentage is displayed) is also in the Transition movie clip.

Anybody finished Claudio's preloader tutorial?? Great tutorial... preloader works fine for me. However, I tried tweaking it a bit and cant get a part to work. Maybe someone can suggest a fix. Im trying to get a button when pressed to display text from an external .txt file (which I've done so far), but (1) I want it to only display certain paragraphs (the actual dialogue) of this text and (2) every time I click the button it should replace the old text with the new (like in any RPG). Now I asked a former lecturer for help and he gave me a link to a website and gave me a hint of what to do, but seeing as I was recently voted #48 on Forbes worst 100 programmers of all time (actually I haven used AS for 5 years) so I thought someone could explain it to me in a much clearer fashion? PS: My lecturer said: When you click the button to add text to the textfield but you ewant the previous text to be cleared the first thing you do is empty the box ( myText.text = "") then fill the box again with your new text..

I've been searching to find a simple answer to external preloaders, but it seems there are many ways to accomplish this with ac3.
I am new to as3 and this is what I've come up with so far:

Everything else is working except my dynamic text that should also be calculating the % of loading.
I have combed the Web and I can't seem to find the answer. All I want to do is display some html-formatted text, located within an external XML file, in a dynamic text field in Flash CS3.
I don't have any code to supply because at this point the only thing I'm trying to display in the text field is "<b>This</b> is a <a href="http://www.google.com">test</a>." For this hypothetical example, I could call the text field myTextField. I just need to know how to format the AS3 code to get the XML to display inside myTextField.
I was wondering if it was possible to preload an external .txt file as the rest of the flash is being preloaded.

> Show Intro Movie
> Preload Main Website
> Show Main Website
In other words, the intro movie preloads then plays, once its finished or the user skips, the main website will then be preloaded and shown.
I know how to make a standard preloader using the getBytesLoaded and getBytesTotal parameters, but Im not sure how it works if you want two preloaders, as obviously the getBytesTotal will be different?
Additionally, I would like to preload an external swf file (buttons.swf, 267kB) when I preload the main website so that everything is nicely ready to use. How can I do this?

I have a SWF file that I have placed using the "UILoader" component (not sure if this is the correct thing to do)... what I would like to work out is how to make a preloader within my main timeline for this SWF file when it comes in. Run locally, the Loader is sufficient to load-up the voiceover swf files that exist on many of the frames in the parent file. On the web, the short download delays at runtime due to the Loader are causing timing issues. I'm not sure if there is a way to preload multiple swfs into specific frames of a parent file so that they are available before runtime.

I've managed to piece together a flash website with my limited as3 knowledge. The text is loaded from external text files and styled with an external css file.
It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.

I'm found the site with the monkey on the the flash thing and all it shows is a name, email and something else and I used it and it works by including a txt file and displaying text from that file as putting down this information

This code works perfect when testing, and it works perfect viewing the SWF, but when you view the HTML file with the SWF embedded, it doesn't display the text file content.

I have a dynamic textfield being populated with an xml files' content. I then have a css stylesheet loaded into format the text. This all works great, but what doesn't work is the ability to bold some of the words in that text. I have both the regular and bold versions of the font embedded into the swf, I can test out just a bold block of text and it works fine. The css is also working as it will change the size of the text that I tell it to. Everything is working, but for some reason I am not able to get the bolder version of the font to display in the same text box as the regular one. I have also tried to change fonts but had the same outcome.
