I've got a small icon as a .png in my library. Let's call it "icon.png".I have a number of dynamic fields on the screen that may or may not need to have the graphic depending on other circumstances.So...let's say I have a field called "Foo" and I want the .text to be the icon.png graphic from the library followed by a colon, followed by the text "This is an icon.

* In the Library, I have 3 small ball graphics which I'll call "IconA", "IconB", and "IconC".
I read data from an external file and depending on what I find, I'll use ActionScript to add a Foo movieclip to the stage. Now, I want to some text in the BlahField, but--depending on the data--I also want to put one of the icons in the field as well. For the sake of this example, let's say I need IconA
Using ActionScript how do I put the IconA image in Foo.BlahField.text (remembering that I want to pull the image from the Library).
Does anyone know if it's possible to have Graphic-type symbols in a shared library as it won't let you add an identifier to them? It's ok to use Move Clips but they increase the file size.

Flash does not let me set any Linkage Properties for Graphic symbols.
How do I draw stuff in Flash and be able to create multiple instances of that stuff at run time without using MovieClip?
Is there a way to avoid this? I import A LOT of bitmaps all the time and it's really really annoying to have to delete the graphic symbol flash creates with it.
Couldn't find a way to toggle this "feature" off in preferences.

I used the code above to create an instance of an arrow graphic that I made using the line tool (the graphic is embedded in a movie clip). I now want to add different colored fills and different stroke sizes and colors using code. Is it possible to do this with pre-drawn vector graphic objects, or is it only doable if I create the arrow with code using things like lineTo and curveTo?
I have a dynamic text on the stage which gets updated (shows numbers) when some buttons are pressed.I just need to know if it is possible to show the first dynamic textfield in another dynamic textfield.Lets say the first dynamic textfield called "price" and the second one called "price2". when a button is pressed, the first dynamic textfield "price" will show a number. is it possible to show whatever is shown in the "price" in "price2" ?
View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.

Thinking about developing a "class schedule app" that has a backend user interface that a user can add/edit/delete dates and times, savs and the data shows in a cool graph on a webpage. I was thinking of using authiticated php page to update an xml file or database that could be read by a flash app to create a dynamic graphic. Think a 800 x 500 square with the 7 days set as rows ontop of each other and the times for each day listed horizontally.The times set in xml/database would be color coded boxes with rounded corners that lay over the times for those days.**I am not looking for anyone to tell me how to do this. I was hoping to get ideas or thoughts from other developers on my options as far as languages to dev in. I have done a few searches and found a lot of javascript calendars to select dates but I am less concerned about the backend looking good.
View 1 RepliesI've watched Lee's video on the Flash CS4 preloader a few times now but have not been able to figure out how to switch a movieclip for the dynamic text field.
Here's what I'm trying to do. My logo is a handwritten font. I've used the eraser tool over 100 frames to simulate the handwriting taking place, during the preloading process. Hopefully this will start at Frame 1 and go up to Frame 100 based on the percent of the external file loaded.
I just don't get how to change the AS from the video tutorial to have it work for my application. I don't have the 'percent_text' dynamic field obviously so the two lines which pertain are wrong, but that still doesn't get the movieclip [called logoLoader] to engage the script.

Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts... When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?
I'm trying to input a dynamic text field into many dynamic movies. I use a for loop to successfully create 18 movies. I can't seem to get the text to be input dynamically however. It works, but if I type in say " 4 " into the 'num1' input box the total box (dynamic field) becomes a " 4 ". But when I enter in say a " 5 " into the 'num2' input box the total box becomes " 45 " (no " 9 ").
I'm using the following code to add movieclip from library to stage...the moviclip holds a background and textfield. now adding it to the stage works fine and i can access the textfield 1 time but after the timer fires again the refrence to the text feild disspepears . I need to access the textFeild every time the timer fires so what am i doing wrong? HOw do i keep refrenct to the text field?

What I'm trying to do is to write something in an input field and then it should show up in a dinamic field. I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.

Is there any way I can use an array value in a dynamic text field? I can display the entire array by putting the 'menuarray' name into the text 'var' field, but if I try to display a subset of the array like 'menuarray[0][1]' it displays nothing, even though this subset holds a value (it shows up fine in the trace window).
Is there any way to get around creating dozens of variables just to display array items?

For instance, in some instances I would have a dynamic field with two lines, and I would want to center it between two other dynamic fields- but only after the text has been populated. Maybe a better way of explaining it would be changing the spacing of elements on a page so they're always equidistant from one another.
