ActionScript 3.0 :: Randomly Populating Shapes With MovieClips
Jul 23, 2009
I can place the movieclips randomly on the stage but I am trying to randomly populate shapes with movieclips.
Code:
ball_mc.x = Math.random() * stage.stageWidth;
I tried just replacing stage.stageWidth with box_mc.width but that didnt work. Also, I wanted to create more complicated shapes for their bounding area then just a movieclip's rectangle.
I have a question about shapes (i mean the flash.display.Shape class). Is it possible to import Shapes directly from the library as Shapes and not as Sprites/MovieClips? Shapes are supposed to be faster than MovieClips/Sprites, right? So why is it only possible to import MCs/Sprites from the library? I understand that generally shapes could be created solely by actionscript, but in my case the shape comprises of many points and is curved - so it's quite infeasible.
Is there maybe some sort of plugin to generate code that would draw the desired shape from a drawn shape in CS4? And a last one: Are there any benchmarks out there for performance comparison between sprites/mcs/shapes? How much performance do i loose by using a sprite instead of a shape?
my aim is to get the movie clip (bar shapes) to move up and down randomly over time. this is the actionscript ive done so far. by the way im using flash 8 so i beleive that its actionscript 2.
While it's clearly possible to create MovieClips, I want to know: Is it possible to make multi-frame movieclip animations programatically? That is, is it possible to decide how many frames there are in the MovieClip, and specify the contents of each frame?I was intending to programatically generate a small MovieClip containing three frames, each with the text "Loading." "Loading.." and "Loading..." respectively, so that I wouldn't have to set up a timing event to change them manually. When I tried to figure out how to do this, however, I found that I couldn't set the number of frames in a MovieClip object, and there didn't seem to be any way to alter them directly.
I have a movieClip(contentMC) that contains numerous movieClips for my site. I have set the color matrix of contentMC to be black & white. This works fine by itself but once I start duplicating and populating movieClips inside 'contentMC' the color matrix settings are lost.
[Code]...
I've even tried to populate the content and THEN turn it B/W thinking that it would be better to convert the contentMC to BW after it was done building itself. This didn't work either. So I started to comment out code until the color matrix settings would stick and this line of code is the killer but unfortunately is essential to rendering the site. contentSC.samplesMC.sample._y = contentSC.samplesMC.sample._y+621; (this line offsets a duplicated movieClip)
In my main .fla file I have a movie clip onstage called "square". The movieclip is empty. Below that are five buttons (black, red, blue, green, remove) which, depending on the color button clicked, would load into the empty "square" clip either a movie called "black_square.swf", "red_square.swf", "blue_square.swf" or "green_square.swf". Only one such movie at a time is loaded into the clip. Clicking the "remove" button empties the clip. I've also got a "submit" button, which, when I click it, I'd want to submit the name of whatever .swf file happens to be loaded to a database. If nothing is loaded I want the record created to show the "square" movieclip was empty.
I've been able to make an application that has a central movie clip containing 20-something other clips. The application lets people create their own design of a particular item, choosing the colors of every component to this item (each of which is loaded into its own component-specific movie clip). One of the movie clips can be populated by a .jpg or .png file a user himself uploads. Once finished, people can print or save this design by choosing the appropriate button on this app. What I'm trying to do is find a way to also pass this design, created from multiple movie clips into a central clip, into a database as well.
The movie clips are "driven" by 21 color chip buttons each which has an instance name of a color, i.e. "black", "brown", "dark_green", etc. By a series of switch/case statements, when one clicks a "component" button (there are approximately 13-15 components) they load into the clips a movie named "(model)_(view)_(component)_(color (event.target.name)).swf". There are many "models" to choose from but within the stage only one "model" is selected at a time, so that wouldn't change here.
The design can be viewed from front, back, left or right, so that's what the "view" is - the colored components that are the same save for the view (i.e., an object which can be seen from either the front or left view) are loaded into movie clips that are either visible or invisible depending on which view one selects. Is there a way I can attach a variable name to a movie clip which is selected (bearing in mind that the application viewer can change the color of each component (and therefore the clip loaded) at will) to be read by the database? Or would the name of whatever movie clip itself that happens to be loaded be sufficient? "populating a database from contents of a movie clip".
1. Is it possible to mix shapes and movieclips in a IK-skeleton? In other words, connect shapes and movieclips?
2. When bending a shape with a couple of bones too much, the shape will become transparent at places it overlaps itself. Is there any way to prevent this? I want to create bodies that bend in all sorts of ways but I don't want to see through the shape at places where it overlaps itself.
3. It will not look very realistic if all body parts just can rotates 360 degrees around the z-axis. They should be able to scale down to create a 3D-illusion.Is it possible to resize the length of a bone and at the same time make the movieclip to also shrink in one axis?
4. Look at the file. Is there any way to prevent the body from being stretched out when he lifts the arms?
When my site finishes loading, just before the animation begins, I see for a very short period of time (just a frame I guess) weird images, actually the outlines of some elements (screenshot 1) that are supposed to have alpha = 0 and visible = false, and a weird shape which I believe has something to do with a big gradient - also with alpha = 0 and visible = false (screenshot3) also the preloader is all messed up (screenshot2) .ve made a few changes and these weird images and outlines persist for a longer time.
I'm trying to fade in and out some movie clips using the Tween class, but am having problems. I have the following code which fades in my movie clips:
Code: import fl.transitions.Tween; import fl.transitions.easing.*; // Fade in and out var myTween1:Tween = new Tween(wds_mt, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 100, false); var myTween2:Tween = new Tween(wds_sf, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 150, false); var myTween3:Tween = new Tween(wds_hush, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 120, false); var myTween4:Tween = new Tween(wds_10, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 300, false); var myTween5:Tween = new Tween(wds_uf, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 210, false);
However, I need to fade them out and then loop the fade in-out animation forever.
I had an idea I would like to incorporate into my site, and sure that Flash can accomodate, but what better place to check!? Say I have a mc_1, mc_2, mc_3, mc_4, and mc_5 all are basically the same information, just varied lead in animations. Is there a code that I can call to randomly choose among those when the site is loaded? Pretty vague I know, but right now I am adding them via "addChild," so would there be something I could use to accomplish this?
I have a slider on my stage that returns a number between 0 - 300 depending on where the user moves the slide.What I would like to do is add and remove movieclips as the user slides the slider so that the number of movieclips on the stage is proportional to the slider's value.An example: If the slider value is 300, I want 300 circles on the stage. As the slider moves down to zero, the number of circles on the stage decrease.I've been trying to think of the best way to do this. Should I use addChild and removeChild? Or just change the visibility?And what would be the best way to refer to each movieclip? Should I use an array? Or maybe an if/else statement?
I'm working with a randomly moving MC, and now it looks good except the collisions with the level. When it hits the level it gonna rotate and go another way. I don't want it go through the walls.
I posted this in the Flash 8 forum, but wonder if I'll have better luck in here. I need to get movie clips to play randomly. Currently, I have actionscript on Frame 1, and a movie clips on the stage in Frame 2. Also in each movie clip as the last frame I have "PlayMC();".[code]
I am generating movieClips outside of the stage I want to send them randomly into the stage in enter frame. Currently it looks like this, so they go like in all directions... How could I direct each of them randomly into the stage?
Code: function timerEvent(e:TimerEvent):void { var newObj:MyObj=new MyObj(); //this places them randomly outside of the stage
I have an mp3 playing. What I would like is to have a movieclip that is located in the library appear, complete it's animation then get removed. The movie clip must complete this proccess 4 times, randomly during the length of the song but never at the same time and not in the last 5 seconds of the song. BTW I can't do this manually by just firing it off a random amount of times because this code will be used with lots of different mp3's, so I need to use the dynamic data I get by retrieving the song length. I have the code working to retrieve the length of the song, and I have a variable that stores the length minus 5 seconds from the end, so I basically have the length of time I wish to work with.
My problem is making the movie clips appear 4 times randomly throughout that length of time. The code is below (what I have so far), the movieclip is stored in the library as circle_mc. The timer I'm using at the beginning of the code (to retrieve the length of the song) is set to run after 2 seconds this is because there is a delay in the music starting and if it did it instantly the number retrieved obviously would be 0, so I delay it by 2 secs till I know the song is playing. At the moment I'm just trying to get it to fire twice, at the moment it fires once or not at all.
I want to randomly load 3 animations in a topbanner on my website. The 3 animations are placed inside their own movieclip and loaded to the stage by using "attachMovie". This works fine. But when a movieclip is loaded to the stage and the animation inside of it is finished playing how do i attach or load another movieclip randomly to the stage?
I want the final result to be a stage with a certain number of circle MC's moving around. I have made the circle MC, and added the AS so that it will start at a random point with a random color, then start moving around randomly. I want to make it so that In the beginning the document will duplicate the movie clip x amount of times, using a for loop. I want to then have all the new circles move around, and when two circles hit each other, they will dissappear, using the removeclip function. You can only use this on duplicated movieclips though, so how would i make all the circles duplicated? Is there a way to duplicate the original movieclip x amount of times then delete it? Or is there a way to remove the original after it is in a collision? Also I don't know how to do the collision detection. I am thinking of using a hittest, but would I just do it with a for loop? Is there a way so that if an MC hits any other MC?
I am new to flash programming. I have to create a flash card game for a client.There are 52 cards with back showing in 52 rectangles. Each time the swf loads the position of the cards has to be different (randomly placed) in those 52 rectangles. Click on the card and the face of the card shows. Also an option for shuffle. When the user clicks on shuffle, the cards are randomly placed.
screen size: 550 x 400 i want to spawn movie clips randomly from the upper part of the screen and to make them go to the bottom. My game name is coin collector, so i want to spawn coins falling down and make my stickman catch'em.
ActionScript Code: Add the AS2 in a box like this one
i have an animation and some movie clips. i want to add my scene an action that brings movieclips from my library randomly on my stage in every 20 seconds. how can i do that? the movieclips should be on the stage so we can see them but they should be invisible until they called from the action.
I have brought in an XML document into Flash (AS3), and can pull any string that I need to into the output window. That is all fine and good - but what I need to do is set var values to be used later.
This outputs what I want, but the problem is: if I try and trace newVar our assign another variable the value of newVar outside of the processXML function, it isnt there.
how to get this to work, but I've finally gotten Loadvars working dynamically. However, now I need to take the "avatar" variable and use it to populate a list component. I keep reading dozens of different ways to do it - turn your variable into an array in Flash, etc. What is the best method?
So I have a list box on stage with the instance name "lb" I'm trying to get some text from my xml list into this list box? In this case the @TITLE data.
I'm able to trace the data from the xml file into the output window, but I can't figure how to display that text in the list box.
Why is this not populationg the fiedls with images? The XML is well formatted (I tested)myThumb has a Loader called myPicMC, where the pics are supposed to load. I supposed the proble is with the code in bold blue. [code]
I have main-swf that loads external swf. I made a combobox where user can choose another external swf and main-swf loads that after user have made selection. Everything works fine as long as code combobox labels and datas directly to the actionscript. When I tried to populate combobox with extrernal XML-file, it didnt work.[code]So, what I would like to do is get rid of that "varlehtivalikko: Array = new Array" where combobox data and label info has been stored and load that info externaly from my XML..
I am creating a RSS Feed application based on a data, and I have the following:
I have an ArrayCollection that is pre-populated with data. I am sorting through the ArrayCollection, get 1 piece of data (condition), and need to connect to an RSS feed which returns me the title, and I set my ArrayCollection in correspondence to condition -> title.
public function updateArrayList(list:ArrayCollection):ArrayCollection { trace(list); for(var i:int = 0; i < list.length; i++) { //Alert.show(list.getItemAt(i).condition);
I have have a problem loading and accessing data from a value object in my new project.. I load an xml file via a service, which contains title and locations of asset files, I need to be able to access the location of an asset file by specifying the title and retrieiving it from a value object.. I'm using the Robotlegs framework, here's an example of the xml:-
