ActionScript 3.0 :: Resizing DropShadow Filter (Scale X / Y)
Feb 9, 2009I was wondering whether it would be possible to perform operations on Filters, specifically the DropShadow filter, such as resizing it (scaleX scaleY).

View 7 RepliesI looked at the following example in the AS3 Reference: [URL] It is unclear to me looking at the package example how to apply this in standard ActionScript 3 without packages to a Movie Clip resident in my Library that gets called at RunTime. how I would push the DropShadow filter onto my Movie Clip at RunTime?
View 6 RepliesI've been trying to animate a drop shadow filter and so far have been unsucessful, I tried doing it with a for loop but for some reason that didn't work, I also tried an onEnterFrame but without success either
here's what I've done
for
Code:
var ds: DropShadowFilter = new DropShadowFilter(2, 35, 0x000000, 0, 5, 5, .8, 3, false, false, false);
preloader.filters = [ds];
[Code]....
that doesn't work either..how I can animate the BlurFilter, I just want it to go from an alpha of 0 to an alpha of 60...
I'm using this code into a mouse over and mouse out listener , to change the color of a TextField.
Code:
var ct:Color = new Color();
ct.setTint(0xFF0000, 0.5);
mc.transform.colorTransform = ct;
The problem is that the dropShadow filter associated with the TextField (applied in the flash UI) is gone when this colorTransform applies.
Should I apply the filter dynamically, is that the only solution ??
I have an input Text Field with the autoSize property set to true, a DropShadow filter, and with a default text value of "Your text here".When the user enters text in the Text Field, and if their entry exceeds the length of the default text, everything typed after that length is reached APPEARS to have been truncated.
However, when I turn the DropShadow off, the TextField expands to the requirements of the newly entered text. This proves that the TextField actually autosized, but just didn't show the additional characters when the DropShadow was applied. I can then turn the DropShadow back on, showing all of the text in the Text Field. how to autoSize a textfield(so that the user can actually see the expanded TextField) when a DropShadow filter has been applied?
I was wondering whether it would be possible to perform operations on Filters, specifically the DropShadow filter, such as resizing it. Are there any known ways to do it?
View 7 RepliesHow to scale pictures when doing website in FLASH. I am creating a flash based website for a friend. I have done all the links and it works great. The only thing is that the images increase as the web browser is maximised. I would like it to decrease as the web browser is decreased, but to increase to a certain size 900 x 651, and stay that size no matter how big the browser is increased by. View 3 RepliesI have an AIR app who has a canvas that scales when I resize the window. I have a sprite that is added to that canvas. When I scale the window the sprite does not scale with it.How do I tell the added sprite to scale with the canvas? Or tell it to be 100% of the container always?Right now I am listening for a resize event and resizing the sprite on that. But that seems like a waste of code/ too much of a CPU hog because I can easily add an element (using MXML) and tell it to be 100% of the parent and it will scale it on its own (EG without telling it to).
View 2 RepliesTo achieve a zoom effect in our 2D flash game, we make the background of the game much bigger than the visible stage. This becomes a problem when the background is complex or when we apply a grayscale filter to the background. Is there a better way to do zoom? Or, is there a way to apply the filter to only a specific area of a movieclip?

I am wondering how I could create a dropshadow on a container that would give the appearance that the container is lower than its parent. Normally the dropshadow is applied primarily to the outside of the right and lower sides. What I want to achieve is a dropshadow to be applied to the inside of the top and left sides. The idea is to give the appearance that the container is embedded into its parent.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to set up a dynamic flash movie so i can set the color of text with a dropshadow applied using setRGB.
Here is the code i am using to set the text color (simple setRGB call):
var my_color:Color = new Color(this.tagLine_txt);
my_color.setRGB(tagLineColor);
Now here is the problem, setRGB automatically makes my dropshadow color the same as the fill color. The only solution i have found is to stack two identical text boxes on top of one another and then setting the dropshadow on the text behind to black to make it look proper.
I have tried using filter to set the dropshadow color as well with no luck:
// Makes the filter available to use in the Movie.
import flash.filters.DropShadowFilter;
// Creates a variable with info about the Filter settings

View 1 Repliesi have been searching the internet for a bit, and maybe i don't know what to look for but i know filters have stage scaling enable, not sure that is what i am dealing with but for some reason i can not scale a movieclip that contains a movieclip with a drop shadow filter without the drop shadow acting like the light source has changed, have tried copying the bitmapdata....anyone know how to "freeze" the drop shadow.

I want to know how to write "Intercepting Filter Pattern" like Java's servlet filter in Flex.
And I want to insert it into the classes which have a role of server communicating.
I am not simply trying to contain things and have the container resize without the contents resizing. I would just use a simple MovieClip for that.. My main focus is on the use of BitmapFill. I'm trying to make a repeating background image for a container; thus far I'm able to draw my BitmapFill sprite to the size I want. (Which is the stage's height) but when the stage is resized, I want to re-size my container but have my containers BitmapFill crop or add more as the window is resized bigger or smaller. Allow me to illustrate what I mean:
I've got a simple rectangle sprite that fills with a bitmap from the library and a simple resize handler function that detects when the window has been resized.what I would like to do is have my rectangle resize to the height of the stage.stageHeight maintaining its bitmap fill, but not resizing the bitmap fill or any children within the sprite.
From what I've read, this is a little tricky because the sprite resizes in relation to what it contains.. or.. something like that.. I really don't know any more.. I saw one example where a person extended the sprite class but I don't know why or how..
in my library there is an image called 'pattern' and my code looks like this:
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, resizeHandler, false, 0, true);
[code]....
I'm loading a few pngs/jpgs externally so they can be swapped out occasionally, and the issue I'm running into is when they are shrunk they become fairly choppy. Is there a way to have flash re-render them, or do something to smooth the resizing as opposed to going in and resizing every file manually myself?
View 1 RepliesI've got a little problem with BitmapFill, I'm trying to use a sprite as a container for various things and i would like it to have a filled pattern background. my problem is that i want it to resize the sprite to the height of the window but not have the background fill resize, and add more / crop as the window size is changed. to illustrate what i mean, please view the diagram attached to this post .
I have an image in my library called 'pattern' and my code is as follows:
ActionScript Code:
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
[Code].....
Scenario: main moveiclip with 4 other clips in it. I want the rolledover clip to scale up and all the others to scale down and blur.
Question: What is the most effiecent way to code this. Would it be a "for in loop"? I am trying to minimize the code and would rather not use a whole bunch of if then statements.
I want my flash content to scale when I scale my browser window.
View 5 RepliesHow can I convert the current scale of the instance to 100% so I can easily "visualize" and manage the instance when I modify its scale? Here's the actionscript, it works, but I just want the temp._xscale and temp._yscale to be in percentages, not real numbers.
Code:
USflag.onMouseDown = function ()
{
var temp = USflag;
onEnterFrame = function ()

One last thing, what's the tag you have to put that is designed for boxing actionscripts? I'm suing [ code ][ /code ]

I have imported a JPG in to my library, converted it to a button, and then I animate the button in from frames 1-30. I then stop() the animation.If I hover over the button in the preview, the cursor changes to the hand as you might expect.Now, if I double click on the instance of the button, I get to the "edit in place" screen, with the 4 frames - Up, Over, Down Hit.I'm unable to apply any filters to this button. It says the "button" is a "bitmap" in the properties.How can it be both? And what is the recommended way of doing this.It seems I can create a new instance of the button on the "up" frame and the "over" frame etc, but this seems wrong plus they all need different names so that makes no sense.
