I'm trying to remake a project that i did earlier in as2. Now i'm trying to build it in AS3.
It was a simple tool to convert text to hieroglyps. In the library I have all the different hieroglyfs and they are exported for actionscript with identifiers a,b,c,d,....
When i used AS2 i could accomplish this with this simple function
Code: function convertWord(word){ for(i=0;i<word.length;i++){
[Code]....
But i don't find such an easy way in as3. How can i use a string variable as identifier to put a symbol on the stage.
I have spark States declared in mxml. I also have a class with string constants. I want my states names to match the string constants. Is it possible to do that directly in mxml and how? [code]...
Lets say I have 5 text boxes that are named t1, t2, t3 etc. I would like to use the variable "i" in the array below as part of the identifier to populate the field is this possible to use an incrementing variable as part of the instance identifer? for(var i = 0; i < 5; i++) {t(i).text = i;}
I have a question regarding the use of variable identifiers when using SharedObjects, I will explain. I want to have the identifiers of a SharedObject as variable names, so: I create a variable: var destinationLoc = ["destination"+mySharedObject.data.numRuns]; I write to SharedObject: mySharedObject.data.destinationLoc=destination;
Unfortunately the above script does not see the variable, destinationLoc as a variable and instead views destinationLoc as a "hard-coded" identifier Is there a way to create a variable sharedObject identifier?
It's too complicate to explain but I'll give you an example
I have an AS3 ResultEvent Object and this object has several propeties which can be accessed by this like:event.result.name or event.result.age and, I have this String variable: eventProperty:String that contains "name" or "age" How do I access to event.result. with the variable?
Googling and trying, I've found: Variables identifiers cant begin with numbers and can only contain letters, numbers and the _ character. I was wondering if there is a length restriction.
as I probably do not describe the problem in the right terms, I was not able to get an answer with google. In the following code, I would like to replace 'hardcoded' identifier COMMENT with the variable editedField. How to do that?
var editedField:String = event.dataField; if (model.multipleProcessingData[i][editedInformationProductNO].COMMENT != null{ }
I have a String variable in my flex (flash builder 4) application containing CSV data. I need to allow the user to download this data to a local file. For example, giving them a "csv" button to click and it might present them with a save file dialog (and I would be sending the contents of my string variable).Is this possible / how ?I am using the ResuableFX component for the datagrid to csv. This the code I ended up with that works to save the string to a text file for the user (in a web browser):
var dg2CSV:DataGrid2CSV = new DataGrid2CSV(); dg2CSV.includeHeader=true; dg2CSV.target=adgEncounters;
Trying to replace a portion of a string with a "-" if it matches a string variable in AS3.
var re:RegExp = new RegExp(imageArray[j][1],"gi"); trace(imageArray[jTemp][2].replace(re,"-"));
imageArray[jTemp][2] is a string imageArray[j][1] is a string as well I'm not getting the result I expect. I would like trace above to return 'permanentContainer-' Here are the traces for the above variables
how you would target a function's local variable through a concatenated variable string.For example:
var txt = "Hello World"; function testing(msg) { var test1 = msg;[code].........
I'd expect the trace to be "Hello World" but rather is given "undefined". So if variables created outside functions are created on the main timeline, where are local function variables created and how would you access them?
i'm getting a value from a class that gives me e.g "icon1" as data. i want to use this within a function to control the visibility of an item nested in a movieclip on the stage. the nested movie has the same name as the data being sent.
// here's what i want it to do: mymenu.icon1.visible = true; // but i cant append the 2 together as flash will see it as a string not read it as path.
I have been banging my head against a brick wall regarding the following problem which must be very simple to fix, just can't see the answer.I have a class assigned to a movieclip called canvas. The class is called drawClass. I have called the instance of canvas on the stage 'drawingCanvas'.When I trace "drawingCanvas" I get object drawClass] which is fine. Tracing drawingCanvas.name gets me the instance name 'drawingCanvas'.This is a String variable.Basically what I am trying to do is pass the MovieClip name to another class. In my example the class 'toolBar', which can then interact with the MovieClip.
The problem is passing 'drawingCanvas.name' results in a String, so I get an error saying :TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "canvasArea" to flash.display.MovieClip.I can't for love or money find a way to convert a String variable to a MovieClip variable! I have the name of the MovieClip, I just need to tell the toolbar class. But I can't find a way of doing this as the instance on stage is an object of drawingClass, not a MovieClip (unless MovieClips with attached classes are not treated as standard MovieClips?).
This is sort of difficult to explain but I'll do my best. I've got 6 score variables that go up over time.
[Code]...
Each corresponds to a different color of "Monster" class I reated. "GreenMonster", "BlueMonster", etc. are all custom classes. Each class has a string property called "MonsterColor". So "Blue1.MonsterColor = "Blue".
To save lines of code, and learn, I'm trying to use a local string variable to take the place of whichever of these 6 int variables I need. So inside a for loop, I've created a variable called "colorscore".
I would like to dinamically create array variables, depending on a XML file. The problem I have is that I don't know how to create them dinamically using a name I have constructed into a string variable. What I would like is something like this:
var strVarName; ... strVarName = "Var" + i; var strVarName = new Array(); ...
So I would have n arrays called Var1, Var2, ... Varn.
There is a function that receiving value of String = 'propertyName', wich is property name.and i have an Object item with property of name equals to 'propertyName'.How do i get item's value of that property?ObjectUtil.getClassInfo(item).propertiesreturns an Array of item's properties, but is it an easier way to get it instead of searching trough Array?
Is there an easy way that I can get the property of object from a string of the name of that property? For example say I have the object char, and a string "x" how can I get the value of char.x?
I'm trying to create some custom properties, but for some reason I can't make them Strings. If I give them a string value: "Something" it is returned as NaN by the MC. But if I give it true; as a value, it is returned as 1.
this is in the class
Code: public static var Temp_F:labeled_btn = new labeled_btn() function setting the values
I'm getting this error but not sure how to change it from a string. I can 'trace("myfilling: " + myfilling);' and this outputs the instance I want to change the X and Y position of fine but when I try to do myfilling.x = leftBaseX, it throws up the error:
ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property x on String.
function generateRandomSandwhich() { while (numFillings < maxFillings) { var randNum:uint = randomNumber(0, (fillings.length - 1));
I create a new object. My new object will always have a labelField because it has to be added to a dataProvider in a ComboBox. The problem is my next property. Each object in the dataProvider has a dataField property that has a string value [eg: 'code' or 'isoCode'].[code]
When this code executes, flex just sets the selectedIndex to 0 and displays the first item in the dataProvider instead of leaving the text and prompt as the empty string "". How do I get around this? I need the text property to be "" unless the user selects another item in the combobox.
I am looking at "length" property in the Adobe AS3.0 language ref as I do not understand it. It says: An integer specifying the number of characters in the specified String object. (I understand this). Because all string indexes are zero-based, the index of the last character for any string x is x. length - 1. (I do not understand the "- 1". I understand that all string indexes are zero-based but I cant put this together with the last character for any string being -1 or whatever it is saying.
I am new to As3 and I'm getting this error but not sure how to change it from a string. I can 'trace("myfilling: " + myfilling);' and this outputs the instance I want to change the X and Y position of fine but when I try to do myfilling.x = leftBaseX, it throws up the error:ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property x on String.
function generateRandomSandwhich() { while (numFillings < maxFillings) { var randNum:uint = randomNumber(0, (fillings.length - 1));
I fixed the last error message, but I still cant get the xml to load, I am getting this error message now. I am trying to load the title of a video reel onto a button and load a corresponding move, 1 of 4...getting this error now.
ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property text on String. at main2_fla::MainTimeline/setVids() at main2_fla::MainTimeline/xmlLoaded() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at flash.net::URLLoader/onComplete()
This is the correspoding codeits referring to: function setVids():void { for(var i = 0; i < 3; i++) { var name_txt:String = vidList_XML.vid[i + count].file; var reelTitle = this["vid" + (i + 1)].name; reelTitle.text = name_txt; }}
