ActionScript 3.0 :: Switching Languages Inside Of A Class

Feb 12, 2010

Now I am working with a Class, where I want to switch languages, and:

ActionScript Code:
package source.actionscript {
[...]

[Code]....

Variable DEFAULT_LANGUAGE is set to 0 and then loading POLISH TEXT into textField.

Now, when I will click on textField by CLICK listener, the var DEFAULT_LANGUAGE will change to 1, so should load ENGLISH TEXT, but nothing happens, because I don't know how to call function again, in that case it is XMLDATA_COMPLETE.. Of course when I change manually var DEFAULT_LANGUAGE from 0 to 1 works great. But how to do this by clicking on textField?

Switching Frame Based On Another One Inside MovieClip

Apr 6, 2009

I am using Flash MX 2004, aka Flash 7, and Actionscript 1. What I have is a movie clip that plays on frame one. Its a variation of loading screen. What I want to do is make it so that when the movie clip is on its last frame (frame 100), then it switches to frame 2. NOT frame 2 of the movie clip, but frame 2 of the overall project.

Code:
if (_root.loader._currentframe == 100) {
_root.gotoAndPlay(2);
}
(movie clip is called loader)

I have also tried naming frame 2 "finishedLoading" and just "2", but it still will not go.What happens is, when the movie clip animation is finished and on frame 100, it just sits there. I had to put a stop(); in frame 1 so that the animation could play, but it stays stopped. This was all done after I tried the logical approach where inside of the movie clip on frame 100 of the movie clip, I made an "Actions" layer and on frame 100 keyframe, I put:

Code:
gotoAndPlay(2);
I also tried
Code:
gotoAndPlay("finishedLoading");
and
Code:
gotoAndPlay("2");

I have even resorted to the last resort. I put tried to make a variable so that when the movie clip is on frame 100, that "var finishedLoading" would be set to true, and then:
Code:
if (finishedLoading == true) {
//
}
Inside of the comment would be gotoAndPlay(x);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Switching AddChild() Parents - Pictures To Appear As Popups However To Add The Child From Inside The Movieclip

Aug 21, 2009

in my last flash website i built, i created a gallery, my way of creating pages in flash are to have a movieclip as a page, so to make it easier to switch between the paged (page switching functionality is purely done in AS3). the gallery was a problem however, i needed the pictures to appear as popups, however to add the child from inside the movieclip, any masks i use would prevent the popup from leaving the immediate area of the page. so to get around this problem i basically used: MovieClip(root).addChild()

in my opinion this was a mistake, because it created other problems. the problem was that the popups are still connected to the page, even though they are outside of it, which meant that using removeChild() to switch from the gallery, meant that any popup that were still active, 'DIDNT' dissapear, and worse than that, because the page was removed, the popups lost any AS connected to them, which meant the couldnt be removed at all.

Media Server :: Switching In FLA Using New Dynamic Stream Class?

Jun 3, 2009

This is a bump and additional thought. The leap to my 1500k file happens when initial bandwidth detection happens as bandwidth is high. Then the computer can not handle playback of a 1500k file. Is there a way to force the player to actually start playing the 300k stream before making any step up to a higher stream?[URL].. Bitrate of currently playing stream is displayed in big numbers on the page. To see the problem you will need an older laptop or computer which would have trouble playing back a a high bitrate video stream.

the stream is dynamically switching through the DynamicStreamItem list of the same file at different bitrates. It works but the switching seems to take way too long. When the default file at 300k loads, the bandwidth test happens and the 1500k file loads. Then on a slow CPU machine the file switches back down as it sees frames are being dropped. This switching is happening way too slowly, it takes a good 45 seconds to switch its way down through the various files from 1500k to 300k again on an old powerPC laptop which can only play successfully at that rate.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling A Function From An Extended Class Inside A Top Level Class

Sep 23, 2009

package{
public class Character{
protected var _hp:uint = 50; //Character Health Points
protected var _power:uint = 5; //Damage dealt

[Code].....

I`m instancing a Character and a Player in the Main Timeline, all in frame 1.
When I use: ""player.attack(character)"" it works fine by itself.

So I added the if (defender._hp <= 0) this.win() which gives me the following error:

1061: Call to a possibly undefined method win through a reference with static type Character.

"defender" is a Character instance, "this" is a Player instance and "win()" is a Player method. I try to call the Player method inside a Character method using the Player instance adding the "." and his method name

Do I really need to define the win() function in the Character class? Is there a bypass to use a subclass method in a parent class method if it`s called from an instance of the subclass?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referencing A Textfield Inside A Movieclip Class From Document Class

Feb 3, 2009

Ok, this is one of those walls that I know once I can jump over it, I will be a much happier developer again.

I've done tons of reading, and think I have a firm understanding that the general consensus is that if you want to reference something, it needs to be added to the display list, using addChild().

I hate to be defiant, but what if I don't want to?

Or at the very least, what if I want to add a movieclip class to the stage using addChild, and then reference objects inside it?

It is much easier this way than what most people recommend - adding 15 objects via addChild, then setting the x and y for the, etc.

That said, I'm all about using classes and using as3 the way it was meant to be used. So what this is, is a best practices question I guess.

HERE ARE THE STEPS I'M TRYING:

- Create new flash document

- Draw graphic symbol bg, with text field over it, select them, convert to movieclip symbol, and export class name "box", then delete it from stage

- Add document class .as file, which simply adds that class "box" from the library, to the display list using a simple addChild()

- Set a name for that box using box.name = "test" let's say

- Do a simple trace like the following - "getChildByName('test').textFieldName" - it shows up great

- So then, I'll now try to set the text by doing this - getChildByName('test').textFieldName.text = "yo";

That last line above, is what doesn't work. I know I'm referencing wrong, but how would a pro as3 developer, reference something on the stage within a movieclip class, from the document class?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Create Class Inside A Class?

Apr 19, 2010

This is what i'm trying to do :

I have 1 class that extends movieclip, let's call it Class0. I have 1 class that extends movieclip, let's call it Class1.

I create an instance of Class0 on stage like : var myClip0:Class0 = new Class0(this, "Class1");

The class Class0 when initializing, will create a new movieclip (myClip1) and add it as child, as an instance of Class1, like myClip0.myClip1. But it's when i create that clip, i want to tell it, it's an instance of Class1, like :

private var myClip1:Class1 = new Class1(this);

Where Class1 could be any class.

How do i pass Class1 to Class0 so it can create it dynamically?? Do i have to use the apply function??

inside Class0, i have a function that does :

Code:
if(subClass){
initSubclass(subClass);
}

Ios :: Localize App Built In Flash For Different Languages?

Jan 14, 2012

I'm currently working on converting an Android app I built natively as an iPhone app. I'm recreating it in Flash as I know AS3 but not Objective C. My original Android app is localized for 4 different languages (it's so easy to do with Android!) - and my question is - how would I do this for the iOS version from Flash? Would I be able to use separate XML files with all the strings in each language and load them in after somehow detecting which language the user's device is set to?I ended up using the following code:

var languageSettings:Array = Capabilities.languages;
var locale:String = languageSettings[0].toString().toLowerCase();

This gave me a 2-letter language code: 'en' for English, 'de' for German, etc. which I was able to use to load the correct xml file for each language.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Using XML And Txt Files To Store The Text In Both Languages?

Nov 24, 2007

I'm currently building a flash website (Flash 9, AS3.0) which will be bilingual (English and French). I'll be using XML and txt files to store the text in both languages. I was wondering, what is the best way to store and use the user's language choice? I was gonna use a global variable, but apparently these are out in AS3, and the alternative way doesn't look like good practices, so i'm not sure what to do.

Here's an example i found which has multiple languages, but in this example, I don't find it practical to have to use different frames to load the different texts. So i'd be interested in suggestions for other approaches to try.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Embedding Multiple Languages Into Flash?

Basically, I need the ability to embed multiple languages into flash, then display them when I want.

I tried Chinese, but every font I found dropped characters. So I've decided to go back to basics, and do European languages (French etc).

I've read quite a bit on it, about the unicode ranges etc, but I'm still struggling a bit.

Does anyone know of a list of fonts that encompasses certain languages?

I'm linking the font file to the library (which seems to only embed traditional English letter, a-z etc), so I guess I need a multinational font?

I'd really like to avoid having to learn actionscript on top of it, there has to be some sort of.. basic wysiwyg type flash builder out there?
