Im unable to map nested java classes and objects with my front end flex application using actionscript....I have searched everywhere almost to my knowledge on the net but failed to find a fix ,im having serious trouble reffereing to attributes of an object using another object( which by the way happens to be the parent object).
Im using hibernate and springs to do the DB transactions.
if you have object inside of object inside of object ... etcwhen you want to completely remove it is it enough to just say:removeChild(topObject);or you need to go inside and start cleaning from there?
View 3 RepliesSo I am trying to populate a user state from XML in such a way that a new user will start with a set of default variables.
An example default state might be:

This would then be changeable by the user so his foo could later be "bar2" and that would be saved to a database.
Now, let's say I want to add a new node to the xml, so the default would be:

An earlier user would have no foo2, so an attempt to use state.obj2.foo2.foo on a text field would generate an error.
What I'd like to be able to do is see if state has a value and if not, fill the user's data with the matching node in the default (in pseudocode):

I am creating series of rectangles dynamically and placing them into a grid pattern under a function called createGrid(). I am than creating another single larger rectangle in a function called drawTimelinecontainer. I than want to place all the objects that were created in the createGrid() function into the object that was created in the drawTimelineContainer function. It seems I get an undefined property error when I add it to the display list like this timeLineContainer.addChild(timeLineCell). Is there a way to do this and have the creation of both objects done in separate functions?

The collision test is off by exactly the difference between the local coordinates and global coordinates of the nested Sprite. Any accurate description of the relationship between the Display Object hierarchy and nested movie clips? I have a movie clip, that has a few movie clips and text fields inside of it. I need access to those MCs and text fields. So, I start off with stage.addChild(container_mc). (These are just examples, by the way). Then I do
container_mc.addChild(movieOne_mc),
container_mc.addChild(movieTwo_mc), and
container_mc.addChild(textOne_txt).
I've made sure to import the necessary classes and declare my variables accordingly. Now I need to access the stuff inside the container. Let's say I need to change what the text box says. So I try
container_mc.textOne_txt.text = "Hello, world!";
That throws an error, so I try
parent.container_mc.textOne_txt.text = "Hello, world!";
That throws an error, too. So I try
MovieClip(parent).container_mc.textOne_txt.text = "Hello, world!";
That throws an error... Finally, I try
MovieClip(parent.container_mc).textOne_txt.text = "Hello, world!";
And then I give up and come here.
I've had this work before, but only by referencing the name of the movie clips in question.
Ex: MovieClip(parent.getChildByName(currentVideo.toStr ing())).gotoAndStop(2);
Is that the only way to access nested movie clips? I don't mind giving every single object a name if I have to, I'm just failing to understand if this is the right way to do things or not. And I foresee issues in the future with objects that aren't movie clips, or with dynamically generated objects.
Say I have a video tutorial. This tutorial is one MovieClip we'll call oneMC (with text, movieclips, and sprites within it).I have a color picker that allows the viewer to change the background color.Any ideas on how to shift the color(s) of all the nested objects once this happens? I need everything to contrast with the background color. (hence black text wouldn't disappear on a black background).Changing the blend mode of oneMC to Invert. This works except ALL nested clips then have the same color. No good.I changed the .color attribute of oneMC to a tint of the background color's opposite (for anyone curious as to how you get it, subtract the user's selected hexadecimal color from 0xFFFFFF). This is ok, but not ideal. Colors appear washed out.Changing the hue. This works on everything but black objects/text.I don't want to resort to colorTransforming each individual child because the EnterFrame requisite is too cumbersome. I have a Flex tree with an ArrayCollection as data provider. The collection holds an array of CategoryVO objects. Each object can have another array of CategoryVO objects inside it's "child" attribute. This way the tree displays the data correctly. Now I want to get the parent of a specific item, e.g. tree.selectedItem. Using XML as data provider the item parent is avaiable thorugh the parent() method. But I can't convert my data to XML. How can I get an item's parent? Perphaps using the tree's dataDescriptor?

Heres whats happening. objects from frame 1 will start freaking out when I goto frame 2. How do I remove only the event listeners from objects only on frame 1?
I have been trying this.currentFrame but the problem is that all the objects are inside map_mc on the first frame so no matter what it will always be 1. On the other hand MovieClip(root).currentFrame will always give me the current frame but wont tell me what the objects frame is relative to the stage.What I want to do is have something to this effect:MovieClip(root).this.currentFrame would output that this object is on frame 1 and MovieClip(root).currentFrame will tell me that the stage is on frame 2 so I can remove the listeners accordingly.
I work with Flash Pro allmost 11 hours per day and every while i get a error which messes up everything. Approximetly i get this after about 2-3 hours withevery project.After i get this error there is no chance to test movies afterwards.I see a fast flash of the loader window but it dissapears so fast i cant even really see if it is loader.

I get "unable to make connection with server or unable to find flv on server" when I try to play the video. But the video and audio files are all in the same directory and the mp3 files play fine. Internally Flash obviously keeps a list of the primitives drawn using Graphics so I wondered if you have many such primitives in a Sprite, can you re-position/remove/alter individual items rather than clear and re-draw everything? Or is this deeper into the bowels of Flash than you're allowed (or recommended) to go?
View 4 RepliesI'm using Zend AMF to send my remote objects to Flex. I've defined a Constant class and created getASClassName() method. Then I've created Action script class in flex.
Objects are send successfully, but they are deserialized to generic Objects in Flex instead of specific ones. EDIT: On network monitor in Flex I can see that AMF value is set to com.my.project.valueobjects.Constant. Although array from event.result contains Objects.

I have an array of temporary objects created in a for loop. The objects are of type class "Tile", a class I created. However, it appears that whenever I create a lot of tiles in the for loop, the program slows down indefinitely.
While the array is whiped at a later trigger point, I am thinking that perhaps these Tile objects are not being erased from memory. They are being created on the fly in a for loop, and the array is being reset to "array = []".
Are the objects still in memory or are they cleaned up when the array is set to []?
What I have is a game with a Level object, inside the Level is a Player object, and they don't have instance names given, what I'm trying to figure out is how to do is make it so that the player can change the x or y properties of the Level object.
To be more precise, I'm making it so that when the player moves in a certain direction, he either moves accross the stage, or he starts moving the Level object around the stage, it'd be in an Event kind of function, now I can easily make the Player move, but I don't know how to make the Level object move which the player is inside of.

I will try to give as much detail as I can. I am creating an CRM application using Flex(Cairngorm 2)/Java/Hibernate. The basic problem I am having is this: I have a Customer class in Java that has an ArrayList of Address classes. I have a Customer class in Flex that has an ArrayCollection of Address classes. When I make the remote object call for a Customer I get back a Customer object in Flex, but the ArrayCollecion objects have a data type of Object instead of Address. If I try to call for a List of Address classes I get the same result. If I try to call for a List of Customer classes I get a list of Customer classes in Flex. Using tomcat 6 with the following jars:

How do I align a movieclip, which width and height is user-defined, inside another object (this one is static, though). Top-left alignment is easy, x=0 and y=0, but what about center, center left, bottom left, etc? Math(.round) i suppose, but how?I want an object (static) inside the movieclip (user-defined) to stay aligned to, for instance, the top right corner, similiar to the minimize, maximize and close buttons at the top right of your browser.. After this is complete, the user can then drag these objects onto another area and the object will be created where the user has chosen. The user can then drag another instance of the ojects onto the area.
For example, there is a background of a lake in one area. A selection of boat pngs are loaded in an area below the lake. The user can drag these boats and place them on the lake. They can drag a boat multiple times if they wish.
