ActionScript 3.0 :: Using Keys To Navigate - Split Each Menu Page Into Labeled Sections Along The Timeline?
Jul 14, 2010
Im making an interactive video menu system in flash cs5, Ive split each menu page into labeled sections along the timeline. I have the following code placed in a specific labeled section so it should jump to the "Directory Screen" when the 3 key is pressed:
But when it goes to the Directory Screen, if I press 3 again it shouldnt do anything but flash seems to remember the code and when I press 3 again on the "Directory Screen" it skips to the next labeled item for some reason.
I'm making a Flash presentation for a client which I will eventually publish as a Projector movie...All the animated slides are in individual scenes, but the individual scenes have several stop points.My client wants to be able to use the left and right arrow keys to skip backwards and forwards to these stop points. They also want to be able to press the spacebar at any point to stop and play the movie manually.

I'm trying to do is use the "page up" button to navigate to different labels on the timeline. The problem is that the labels are in different scenes (for example label_5 is in Scene 3). So each time I go to a label outside the scene, I get an error message.
var myLabels:Array = [ "label_1", "label_2", "label_3", "label_4", "label_5"]; var nextLabel:String; stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyPressed);
I have a MovieClip with several labeled animations on it's timeline. When I made the MovieClip I leaved extra frames between each labeled animation, to see things better and to better read the labels. Everything worked just fine, but then I needed to dispatch an event when each labeled section of the animation was done, so I trimmed out the extra frames (which were completely empty... no code, no drawings, nothing) and placed a dispatchEvent(); and a stop(); function on the last frame of each labeled section of the animation...
And this is when my problem occurred: the animation stops at a specific frame within each animation each time I play it. There is no code on that frame, the symbol doesn't run out of frames, or whatnot. I have cancelled all the code that I could to simplify things, and it still doesn't work. I tried adding back the extra frames, cutting out the action frames(so sort of undoing manually to the point that it last worked), but it still stops in the middle of each animation... If I could roll back to before this happened I would try not cutting out the extra frames and just placing the action frame where the animation ends, but I can't...
I've got a button that I want to use to jump to a labeled frame within the timeline. When I click on the button I can't get my trace statement to work. The error message I get is: Error 1061: call to a possibly undefined method addEventListener through a reference with a static type flash.display:SimpleButton BtnDone is the instance of the button on the stage, btn1867 is the frame label I want to jump to once the button is clicked.
Here's the code: stop(); btnDone.addEventListner (MouseEvent.CLICK,clickSection); function clickSection (evtObj:MouseEvent) { //trace action - what's happening in output window trace("The button 1867 was clicked!") gotoAndStop("btn1867"); }
im currently trying to extend my flash video player with the option to pause the video and then use the left and right arrow keys to navigate forward and backwards frame by frame. I already figured out that I can only seek to keyframes and not every frame and that seeking always gets you to the closest keyframe automatically.
I couldnt find a method anywhere to seek to the next keyframe automatically and if I try to seek in small intervals I sometimes end up on the next frame like I intended but most of the time I get thrown back to the keyframe I started because its the closer one.
how to use the arrows keys in a flash movie to move the timeline. None of them help, or work (or at least I can't get them to work as advertised). Some of the solutions seem way to complicated for such a simple problem. I don't want to use AS3. What I need to do is to have the ability to move from frame 1 to frame to or from scene 1 to scene 2 in my flash movie. This is the code I have in frame 1 (there is no other code in the swf) -
stop(); myListener = new Object (); myListener.onKeyDown = function (){ trace ("you pressed a key");
[Code]....
This code "works", by that I mean I can go from frame 1,2,3,4,5 just fine and back from frame 5,4,3,2,1 just fine. The problem is once I am back at frame 1 and want to go back to frame 2, I get to frame 3, going forward goes to frame 5 and going back ends in frame 1.
have designed a menu that opens into a sub menu that in turn opens up to reveal another menu .the menu is split 5 times too reveal the submenu's the script to do this is a tween that at frame 6 opens the menu and 11 closes it.
This is replicated to form another sumenu
I have declared the menu instance as "menu"
I have declared the submenu instance as "subsect"
I have declared the button to open the submenu as "expander"
using the with action i have told the expanders to tell all the other submenu's to play the closing sequence so that the open menus close when a new menu is opened .this fails to work as the with action cannot find the target .the code on the expander button is as follows
on (press) { gotoAndPlay(5); with (_root.menu.subsect2) {gotoAndPlay(11); [code]............
The site has 6 pages: home, contents, contact, about, showreel, corporate. I have a panoramic photograph as a background across all my pages. When a button,such as contact, is clicked the timeline is enabled and scrolls across the panoramic to the 'contact' area of the photograph.I have a few questions relating to how I can achieve this. 1.) On my actions layer I have this code on frame one: stop(); enter_site_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonCLicked); function buttonClicked (event:MouseEvent):void { play(); } So when you mouseClick the timeline plays and goes to the next stop point on the timeline which is the contents section. On the contents page are the buttons which lead to the other sections. So far I have this code: stop(); about.btn.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK,buttonCLicked) corporate.btn.addEventListener
Each of the buttons work, but I want the timeline to play and go to the page which corresponds to the button which is clicked, not just to play the timeline until the next stop point. Is there a code which would enable the timeline to play and go to the correct section, and not just roll without a target? 2.) I also want to be able to write a code which enables the timeline to move to any section in the same amount of time. What I mean by this is that if it takes 2 seconds (48 frames) to go from the first section to the second section, I also want it to take 2 seconds to go from the second section to the sixth section (240 frames)
I want to do something like this (Dell home page):[URL]
(But I want the cycling to stop on the selected screen once a button has been clicked.)
It can either cycle continually through the screens (I need 9 of them), or it can cycle once & then stop on the last one.
At this point, I don't really care *sigh*
I can make a movie based on this technique
[URL] (What a PITA to be unable to post links!)
that lets me jump to various sections of the timeline when buttons are clicked, and I can make the entire timeline run & then stop (or repeat), but I can't combine the two.
I'm currently working on a site that has several buttons for several sections. Each section has its own transition. My question is, if I click on button 1, section 1 content appears, now when I click on button 2, section 1 content fades away and section 2 content fades in and so on with the rest of the buttons and sections.
First like so many I am new to actionscript and I'm almost there but I cant figure it out. Either way I am putting a scrollbox in each section where there is a graphic. So for every section there will be a new scrollbox with new info. It goes to each section perfectly but as soon as you use the scrollbox and then try to go to another section the content from the scrollbox is still on the page.
I have a flash button embedded into a css/HTML page that I want to use to navigate into a new page without opening a new window. Here's the code I'm using in the SWF which I got from the adobe tv tutorial:Here is the test page that I have embedded the flash button in:The flash button is the "about Ian" button on the upper left. I want the navigation to be like the traditional rollovers on the page. (I'm working my way up to having the embedded flash button fade into place, that's why I'm using flash.)
// 1. Event handler function function clickHandler (Event:MouseEvent): void { trace("CLICK!"); navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://ianmartinphotography.com/about.html")); } // 2.
I want to clean up my main timeline by breaking it into 3 sections and putting each section into its own clip. My main timeline is then only 3 frames long with one clip on each frame. Of course, trouble is, the main timeline doesnt wait for the first clip to play before progressing to the second. Do I need some code in the second main timeline frame to tell it to wait til the first clip has finished?
So I have 2 frames at main timeline, one named "Game" and one is "Menu", they are just a movieclip eash does its own thing. I am in the "Game" playing, I want to change settings so I go to frame "Menu"... when I am back to frame "Game", everything is reseted!! I soon realized this is what Flash has been doing and it's a good thing... But I really want to know how to by pass the resetting now...
I'm building up an image resize gallery, and I want to navigate using the left and right arrow keys on my keyboard. I've been trying to figure this out a while now, but I can't get it working. Here's my code:
I have 5 instances of a movie clip that need to move to a frame labeled "highlight" on Rollover and to a frame labeled "unhighlight" on Rollout. On Release each needs to get a different URL. I got it working, but the script is pretty repetitive. Can someone show me how to shorten the script by creating a function or something similar that would handle the rollover and rollout part? Code for two of the movie clips below.
I have enclosed the Menu with the following actionscript. I want to make the menu so you can use the arrow keys to navigate. I have the menu set up as an array and so when a button is clicked it stays the color and I have the first part of the using the keys down. I haven't written the functions for nextImage and prevImage, thats part of what I need help on. I just need to bridge the code to get the directional keys involved.
Code: listen = new Object(); listen.onKeyDown = function() { if (Key.getCode() == Key.UP) {
what's the simplest way to navigate within one timeline? I have a simple 5 page site and in a code layer, I assigned this script for each button: Home_button.onPress = function(){ gotoAndStop("home");
So when I tested the movie, I realized that I need something to make the playhead not move until something is clicked. Right? Do I still need to go into the actions for each button and say something like gotoAndPlay?
I have used flash in the head of my pages and have added navigation bar within that header I have attached code to the message so you are able to see the actionscript I have used to control said navigation. The problem is this does not seem to be working as I cannot navigate from one page to another
So im new to AS3 im trying to do some basic things that i knew in as2 but they arent working in AS3.Im basically trying to do this.this.gotoAndStop("1");basically i just want my main timeline to jump back to the beginning the main time line
I have a link in my flash and when I click it ,it opens new window and navigte me to other pages but still the original page remain on the screen but I want to navigate from the original page in the same window what should I do ?
