Im making an interactive video menu system in flash cs5, Ive split each menu page into labeled sections along the timeline. I have the following code placed in a specific labeled section so it should jump to the "Directory Screen" when the 3 key is pressed:
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP,fl_KeyboardDownHandler_9)[code].....
But when it goes to the Directory Screen, if I press 3 again it shouldnt do anything but flash seems to remember the code and when I press 3 again on the "Directory Screen" it skips to the next labeled item for some reason.
heres another one for ya, how do I make multiple preloaders for different sections of the site? Im using the ifFrameLoaded script, but it loads every frame because scene2 (with the content) is just 1 frame with many movie clips.
View 1 RepliesI need to show multiple sections in single progress bar where each component is of different color.
View 2 RepliesWhen you want to split a string in to an array, seperated by the letter "e" for example. So string: 0e5e8e7 would become 0,5,8,7..[code]Is there a way you could split a string by multiple values? So instead of it splitting the string when it comes across "e", could you have it split when it comes across "e", or another character.
View 5 Replieswhat I need is simple thing, I have string which cantains data - time retrived from mySQL in mySQL format HH:MM:SS YY-MM-DD what I need is to split this string in actionscript to array of numbers like this
HH
MM
SS
YY
MM
DD
so I can compare it with current time, how to splite using multiple delimiters at first, then compare it with current time. this is my work until now
var param:Array = datetime.split(" :-");
var currentTime:Date = new Date();
var seconds:uint = currentTime.getSeconds();
var minutes:uint = currentTime.getMinutes();

I have two text fields, textL and textR, that read like a book with a specific height and width. Currently I have the external .txt/.php set up variables for each page. Example of book.txt :Code:&page1=Hi this is page one.&page2=And this is page two.I am looking for ideas on how to approach using just one variable which is split at the absolute end of textL with the rest of the variable or string loading into textR. Basically, automating the split of the text when it runs out of space in each field.

How could I split styles, code and layout for every panel to several files?
First-time poster, I've done mostly basic animation work in Flash (for banner ads), but now I'm on to my first full-Flash web site. Quite a learning experience it has been. The project started fairly simple - navigation bar that jumps to various frames for different sections.
Then the site owner proposed doing a "full frame" layout (elements fill the browser window and resize as needed). I figured out how to do this on a dummy site, but I'm having trouble making it work on the production site. I keep generating compiler errors because certain instances only exist in a particular frame (due to there being different sections/pages).
I'm hoping someone can provide some conceptual guidance on how to do this. I know I can scrap together something that will be acceptable, but I'd like to get some opinions on what is best practice, especially as I will probably end up doing similar stuff in the future.
Things I've tried/considered:
- unique stage resize listeners on each keyframe
- all elements in a single frame with lots of confusing .visible switching
I have it set up to load multiple XML files, but, when you select a new book/xml, i want it the thumbnails to refresh starting with thumbnail #1, instead of wherever it left off in the arraythis obviously has something to do with the variable k, but i am having a lot of trouble figuring out where to fix this at.
// Buttons to call each Gallery and reload data
bookone_btn.onRelease = function() {
xmlURL = "book1.xml"; // sets xml file

I have 50 thumbnails that I'm loading from an xml document. What I want to do is load them all at once but place them into different movie clips on the stage. I was thinking I could organize them based on tags in the xml file, or by number (like put thumbnails 1-12 in movieclip A, 13-20 in movieclip B, etc.) Right now I just have the thumbnails being placed in a single clip. I am confused because in the function where I addChild, I no longer have access to the thumb_url var, so I wouldn't know how to specify which images to put where. Evenif I could access this info, I'm not sure how to write the code to place different thumbnails into different movieClips.
function callThumbs():void{
for (var i:Number = 0; i < my_total; i++){
var thumb_url = my_images[i].@THUMB;;
var thumb_loader = new Loader();

Being a newbie to this flash design and actionscript and self learning with the help of forums and tutorials I have create a simple photo gallery for a website I'm building. And all works fine. Working on a picture gallery with multiple pages. The basic idea of what I'm trying to do is I get a list of all thumbs, separate the list in groups of 20 and then add all the groups to a MC that slides left and right when the user presses a left or right button.This is the code I've written:
Code:
if ((totalPics % 20) > 0)

I've created a simple thumbnail gallery script that my students can use for portfolio projects. I'm also making it available for public download along with video tutorials in how to use it. I had developed a nice AS2 script, but those days are over and I've been hammering away at AS3 with pretty good success, but am still learning.I have a workable gallery, but if I add a second gallery on a different frame, all the functions and variables of the second gallery conflict with the first one. I'm missing some simple way to reinitialize the gallery. It may be that I need a Gallery Class but this is just a hair beyond me right now. Can anyone take a look and point me in the right direction? Files can be downloaded from URL...The actionscript files are external and brought in with an include action.

View 1 RepliesI am creating a complex photo gallery application with XML. Through the XML you may load individual images, or you may create mini photo galleries within the main application.At first, individual images and mini galleries are treated the same, I loop through data from the XML to create each instance.The mini gallerie's are then populated by a second loop within the first, to draw data from the next level of XML childNodes. For the mini gallery code I am using a modified version of What I have now works perfectly if there is only one mini gallery. As soon as I create a second mini gallery, the first one stops working. Or rather, the next and previous buttons from the first mini gallery control the second mini gallery rather than the first.
This seams strange to me because there are many other functions relating to the individual images that are created within the main "for" loop that work fine regardless of how many instances of individual images there are. The mini gallery functions are also located inside the main "for" loop, but rather than functioning for each mini gallery instance they work only for the last one created.I hope this descriptions is clear. I'm no expert at AS. I'd paste my AS code but it's way too long to post here!
I would like to make a simple flash file where I have one image on top with multiple thumbnails underneath it. The only thing I need to do is get the main image to change to another when I click another thumbnail. The result would be a basic thumbnail driven image gallery.
View 1 RepliesI've created an image gallery that loads movieclips from my library with a simple navigation system. Everything seems to be working fine however I'd like to add some additional functionality. What i would like to do is have the navigation first appear on a splash page. When a user selects one of the nav buttons, the nav will fade out. The image selected will then fade in as well as the navigation but smaller and tucked away to the side.
Users can then continue to sift through the gallery with new (smaller) navigation. I don't know if any of that made sense so I whipped up a few images to demonstrate what i mean. I've also attached a zip file with the current gallery I've created.
I was working yesterday with the galleries from Scotty - http:[url].... - trying to add a dropdown menu for the different galleries, instead of the buttons (I'm talking about the V3 with Thumbnails). My skills are not that good I realized. Do you have any idea on how to achieve this?
What I need is a combobox showing the different galleries i have on my XML file and if the user chooses another gallery, the it loads the new set of pictures and thumbnails.

View 9 RepliesI have a flash component that is an image gallery. I want to have multiple image galleries on my site, but instead of multiple instances of the component, I want to have multiple buttons that can be clicked that will load in different xml files to populate the component.
Would code like this do something like that:
var eventListener = new Object();
eventListener.button_click = function (evnt){ trace("Button clicked");} myGallery.addEventListener("button_click", eventListener);
I have the multiple_resize galleries using one xml, but i have a lot of photos and in this script is need that loads all of thumbnails to see the first pic. I am crazy with this question. How can i add thumbnail preloaders or load de first pic in the start?
View 3 Repliesi am making a flash demo and have a bunch of different sections / categories that the movie will need to navigate to. I created a similar demo previously and used different "scenes" to keep track and organize the different categories. Should i keep using scenes to navigate to or is there a better, more professional way to do my movie?Also, where could i find more information on properly organizing and setting up my flash files? ie: naming conventions, etc.
View 2 RepliesI believe in CS3 it was possible to place a bitmap at a keyframe, then create a later keyframe, and break that bitmap up and move the sections. Then, create a motion tween to animate the peices flying apart (or back together).In CS4, this doesn't seem possible--anything I do combines the broken up bitmap into a single entitiy, rendering any tweening useless. Both Motion and Classic tweening seem incapable of such a simple task. (Shape tweening animates the peices, of course, but loses their individual shapes in the process, resulting in a mess).take a bitmap photo or a drawn rectangle or oval, and using tweening to animate it breaking apart?
View 2 Repliesi am trying to make a preloaded that stops on frames depending on how much is loaded, i want it to stay on frame 1 if 24% or less of the movies is loaded and for every 25% i want it to it to move forward a frame,so far i have done thus,
var bytes = _root.getBytesTotal();
var bytes_loaded = _root.getBytesLoaded();
if (bytes / bytes_loaded >= .25) {
_root.gotoAndPlay(2);
} else {
_root.gottoAndStop(1); }
The site has 6 pages: home, contents, contact, about, showreel, corporate. I have a panoramic photograph as a background across all my pages. When a button,such as contact, is clicked the timeline is enabled and scrolls across the panoramic to the 'contact' area of the photograph.I have a few questions relating to how I can achieve this. 1.) On my actions layer I have this code on frame one: stop(); enter_site_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonCLicked); function buttonClicked (event:MouseEvent):void { play(); } So when you mouseClick the timeline plays and goes to the next stop point on the timeline which is the contents section. On the contents page are the buttons which lead to the other sections. So far I have this code: stop(); about.btn.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK,buttonCLicked) corporate.btn.addEventListener
(MouseEvent.CLICK,buttonCLicked) showreel.btn.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK,buttonCLicked) contact.btn.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK,buttonCLicked)
Each of the buttons work, but I want the timeline to play and go to the page which corresponds to the button which is clicked, not just to play the timeline until the next stop point. Is there a code which would enable the timeline to play and go to the correct section, and not just roll without a target? 2.) I also want to be able to write a code which enables the timeline to move to any section in the same amount of time. What I mean by this is that if it takes 2 seconds (48 frames) to go from the first section to the second section, I also want it to take 2 seconds to go from the second section to the sixth section (240 frames)
Flash CS4 has a feature where a tween can have more than two keyframes. If a tween has three keyframes, then changing keyframe 2 will affect the motion from keyframes 1 to 2 as well as the motion from keyframes 2 to 3. This is a very cool feature.
But there's one problem: I can only figure out how to apply an ease to the entire tween, not to the motion between two keyframes. Do you know how I can apply one ease to the motion between keyframes 1 and 2, and a different ease (or the same one a second time) to the motion between keyframes 2 and 3?
I've had two ideas so far for getting the same result:
1) Make a custom ease that includes all the eases I want. I find this too cumbersome and imprecise, unless there's a way to copy an existing curve into the space between two keyframes of a second curve (without replacing the whole second curve).
2) Split the tween at each keyframe. But then every time I want to adjust keyframe 2 I have to do it twice, and sometimes the break ends up jerking slightly. I'd really rather keep keyframe 2 a shared keyframe.
I am creating a website with different sections (home, portfolio... - each of them has a full-screen looped video as a background)I made a separated .swf for each section in order to reduce their size.I just need to know how can I connect these .swf in order to navigate from one section to any other in the website.What would be the easiest way to do so?Is there a way to do it using the available Actions/code snippets included in Flash CS5?
