View 1 RepliesI have a task to make simple game that deployed as a facebook app using Adobe Flex. Like most facebook game, I need to show high score, compare score with friends and some other similar functionalities, which I think need some sort of database thing.
The problem is a had only little experience about database, only have tried simple things with MySQL and I don't know where to start.
I'm currently building an application using the Adobe Facebook API and I've run into an issue where for the login method the Facebook login popup displays but when doing a Facebook share/post the popup is blocked.
This code works fine and displays me a Facebook login popup without question (Firefox):

However, the following code running in the same application throws up a popup blocker (again Firefox):

Does anyone know of a work around this issue to make the share popup come up just like the login popup?
I'm trying to determine the practical difference between using the com.facebook.session.WebSession and com.facebook.session.JSSession. The documentation ([URL]) has more around WebSession - but the example I have which is closest to what solution I'm trying to implement uses JSSession and it looks like I could avoid all of the JavaScript pass-through & ExternalInterface calls I'm making. It appears that the benefit of using this new ActionScript Facebook API is to avoid having to make all of the Facebook calls via JavaScript.
View 5 RepliesI have a facebook application where the user choose 4 of his friends and then it creates a video (swf) with the pictures of your friends in it (loaded via xml). So I need to share this video on the user timeline. Everything works fine but the video is not embedded in the post on his timeline, there is only a post with the link to the page in it.The weird thing is, if I post the url directly on my timeline, the video is embedded, but not if the same link is posted via the application.here is my code called by the share button in js :

I've recently used the 'Static HTML' application to add autoplaying flash content to a Facebook Page.Nothing too fancy, no sound, and only a few secs long. Now, Facebook say:-"Apps on Pages must not host media that plays automatically without a user's interaction."
What do they mean by 'Media' exactly? I can understand a ban on autoplaying audio content but does the ban extend to something as harmless as an animated GIF? Or more to the point, does an autoplaying .swf file fall under this?
Lastly, what course of action would Facebook take if I did violate this rule? Would they issue a warning (giving me an opportunity to remove the 'offending' item) or would they just shut down my page without any consultation?
I'm trying to create a flash mmorpg and I don't know what would be the best way of creating a connection that would handle the movement of people.I was thinking of saving the data on the mySQL server but I don't think that that would be the best way of doing this.

View 4 RepliesIve got some high level questions about vector graphics. From what I understand, when you draw stuff in the Flash IDE, you are creating vector graphics. Is there any way to view the actual XML (or whatever code) that is generated 'under the hood' ? Is there any way to save the drawing as a .SVG file or something? Ive looked at a few free SVG drawing tools, but I'm wondering why not just use Flash directly, instead of creating my vector drawing in a separate program, and then trying to import it ?
Im thinking of different ways to build maps/levels for my flash game, and right now I'm thinking that building the levels out of vector shapes seems to offer the best features in terms of fast/easy collision detection, fast map creation, small level size, etc.The problem is, once I draw a level in Flash, how do I break the individual shapes apart (rectangles, lines, circles, whatever), into useable pieces I can use in the code? For example suppose I simply draw a big rectangle for a super-simple level. How do I grab the coordinates of the corners for use in my actionscript code? And how do I determine that the shape is a rectangle, and not a general polygon or just an unclosed set of lines?
For example I imagine the SVG code for a rectangle looks something like this:RECT 120, 60, 400, 500
But where can I grab that text from using actionscript, If I drew that rectangle in the flash authoring tool?
I have literally spent HOURS trying to solve this mystery... but simply can't seem to get hold of it.
I am using the same code lines (literally!) as the example here (official adobe tutorial) and I get different result.

Everything works fine, i.e. everything till it is time to fire the loggedin event. I get asked to log in and all permissions are asked correctly. After I log myself in to facebook, the loggedin event doesn't fire. Is there any way of solving this problem??

I can't find in the Adobe Facebook API how to log the user out of Facebook. The FacebookSessionUtil (and the related sessions and Facebook classes) all have a .logout() function, which will invalidate the user's current *session* within the swf, but it doesn't log the user out of Facebook.
What am I missing here? How are you supposed to log the user out of Facebook with this API? Since it's part of the TOS for Facebook Connect apps, you'd think this would be available in the API somewhere.

I'm trying to make an animation possible to play in two different ways. The first one is to play animation from beginning to end without stopping The second one is an interactive way - something like slideshow made in powerpoint. My idea was to use gotoAndPlay() function with stop() function. It doesn't work the way as I expect. For instance - I've one animation made of 500 frames. It makes up some 10 slides. If I put after every 50 frames stop() function then it's impossible to play this animation from beginning to end without stopping because of stop(). How to handle this? It would be nice if there was a function to indicate to play between some frames. For example, start playing from 1 until 50, then stop. Then start playing from 52 until 100 and stop .... then from 450 to 500. Besides that from 1 to 500.

This should be very simple: I want to fade-in a Movieclip (called MC1) using Actionscript.I normally use this (and it works just fine):

Well, even though I can see the alpha values decreasing step by step (throughout the "trace" instruction), the fact is that the MC does not fade-in at all, it's just starts at a 100% alpha value.How comes this illogical behaviour? The instruction "trace" shows what it should do, but Flash does not fade it in.
I work for the NPS, and they have an outdated CMS. I have no rights to upload an .html file, or edit one that the CMS makes. SO, I am forced to use their little deal to display my .swf files. url...I made an eHike in as3 Flash CS4. It has two scenes, the first scene is the preload, second is splash content and ehike content. The problem is I cant get the preloader to display in IE. I have all actionscript content exported to the second frame, as talked about here:[code]I have tried many different ways to load the preloader.there is a simple text field for the percentage, and a simple 100 frame animation. preloader_mc.[code]The CMS lets you decide in the popup window if it is resizeable or not. This works in IE (stopping people from resizing), but not in firefox, people can resize it. Is there any way to disable the resize in AS3? Again, I understand that your supposed to export the .html file with these settings, but I have no permissions to upload or create new .html files.
View 1 RepliesI have moved on now to where this is clearly a Flash security thing.I have a flash client that attempts to connect to an open socket on the same host as the one on which it lives.I am able to connect successfully from inside the Flash IDE, and when I run the swf movie locally on my machine, after granting it security clearance in the white list it connects as well. However, when I call the movie via the browser (URL...) it fails to connect.The socket reports that a connection attempt is made but immediately disconnects.I have a crossdomain policy file that looks like this: in the root directory of the host.[code]In the flash movie I have a line that looks like this: System. security. loadPolicyFile (URL...);And I'm thinking maybe that's where the problem is, but the documentation on how to use this method is not entirely clear. View 1 RepliesI was just doing some testing using PHP sockets and Flash. I used several things, one thing is this tutorial:I have the server running, and when I run the swf via Flash it connects fine. But when I run it from the browser it can't connect.. Because that Tutorial is in AS2, I also wrote a quick client to connect with AS3, but I'm having the exact same problem.. it only connects if I run it through flash.Here's an example of the basic code:

using kirupa's tutorial " Connecting to a Web Service using Flash" i have added Flash Builder's library into my flash project. I am using HTTPService class of Flex in my flash project. If I repeat this process in separate blank as3 file, its works perfectly fine. But when I only add the flex library in my working flash project, it stops working. No error, no warning. I am really confused. Where should i start troubleshooting? Just adding the library starts the problem, but when I add this in a new as3 flash file, it works fine. All settings are same in both files.
View 5 RepliesI have a 30 second long animation (18fps). Movie symbol 135 frames long which loop 4 times using countTextField/if/else etc. and then gotoAndStop on a static frame. According to the company that are posting it on their site, the animation doesn't stop.
Are there any other ways of completely stopping an animation?
