I was wondering about MC and hey can help to lag a game out. I set up an advanced class system so i don't have to use MC to simulate walls, all i use isthe x,y,width and height. Well anyway since i don't need MC anymore I was wondering if there is a way to attach Graphics instead of MC cause a Graphics file size is relatively small than that of a graphic, I think. If anyone could tell me thats true and show me a way to attach graphics that would be nice. I haven't tried it yet but maybe if I exported the graphic from the library imihgt be able to call its name, but it doesn't have an instance name so im stuck.
View 2 RepliesI have a lot of graphics and sounds in my library that are exported for Actionscript in Frame 1. I believe that because of the exported graphics, my preloader will not work. All I get is a white frame while the movie loads. How can you preload graphics that are exported for Actionscript?

I have 2 questions regarding bitmaps. Say I'm loaing graphics from a game off a server into a .swf file:
1) Which format is the best to use - gif, jpeg,png? (for non transparent images)
2) When a user plays a .swf movie it gets saved to their browser cache and its loaded the next time they access the same file, but when your externally loading images does flash have to re-download all the images or is it all stored in the browser cache?
I have flex sdk 4.6 installed and I want to compile AS3 class that uses FXG file for simple graphics. I have and fxg file called Speaker.fxg and I tried to import it like a package

I am trying to display photos as a slideshow with some transitions effect. I am having error when using TransitionManager, the error code is
"1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type flash.display:Loader to an unrelated type flash.display:MovieClip."
To me it seems like TransitionManager can only be used in MovieClip and the XML file is link to .jpg.
Is there a code to convert the Graphics into MovieClip and make the code work. Or is there a better way to do the slide show using XML data.[code]...
I've got a project that has an FLV with cue points controlling when graphics appear in the swf file. The graphics are being loaded into empty movie clips via AS on the stage (everything is being loaded and unloaded into the first frame of the main stage). What the client wants is a pause button that will pause/play both the FLV and graphics being loaded in the swf.

She wants them to appear coming in from the sides of the browser window. Is there a way to do this? That is, can you make graphics or movie clips that start off outside of the frame appear in the browser when the swf file is saved?
View 2 RepliesWhen it comes to imported vector graphics are there any methods to decrease the swf's file size as much as possible? So far I have:
- imported an illustrator ai file (strokes 'expanded' in illustrator and unneeded swatches/ brushes etc. deleted and with no raster images embedded)
- exported the file in illustrator as swf and imported that swf into flash
- imported ai file and breaking it down to flash shapes
- optimized those shapes as much as possible
I rather use vector as much as possible. For a banner for examle, I've imported vector images of trees. I couldn't get it below 40 kb so I exported all illustrator files to png files which helped. Can detailed vector images be optimized just as much? Or is it better to use bitmap files when it comes to more detailed graphics? Does it matter if it is a vector images made in flash or a imported vector file even if both have the same number of paths?
I'm going to create a iOS app in flash and convert. I'm thinking I may want to load graphic assets at runtime. I'd like these assets to be vector graphics so they can be resized easily with no quality degradation. I usually use SWF files ofr this purpose. Unless I'm wrong, a converted iOS app probably does not load SWF files. So I'm wondering what kind of vector graphics file format can iOS load at runtime?

I have a large vector drawing (imagine 5000x5000) that i want to break up into separate pieces. I know that I can convert this vector drawing into a bitmap and then use the copyPixels method to create many separate bitmaps of the different regions of the original vector drawing, but is there any way to subdivide it into movieclips that just contain vector graphics instead of a bitmap?The reason im dividing a big chunk of vector graphics into smaller pieces is for performance reasons, so flash would only render a small part of this big chunk at a time (only certain regions/voxels/subdivisions are rendered at a time). But bitmaps apparently take up a lot of memory and the system im using would take much less memory if these subdivisions could be preserved in their original vector graphics form.
I imagine I could use masks somehow to achieve this effect (for each subdivision, duplicate the huge image and mask only the region that the subdivision represents), but I dont know the performance costs of masking or if this will create other problems.So is there anyway to split up a movieclip of vector graphics into smaller movieclips of vector graphics the same way copyPixels can with bitmaps?
If we set flash palyer source as src='videos/getflashfile.aspx?videoid=1291'(getflashfile.aspx file gives us the actual file which is stored in database.Url is generating the file correctly) it is not working in IE , but the same working fine in Firefox. If we the souce as path from application(file system) it is working fine in all browsers.
If we set as external url it is not working?
I have a as3 website that works fine in firefox, but for some reason doesnt work in safari. i think it might be as3 coding, but not sure. anyone have suggestions?

View 1 RepliesI'm working on a glorified slideshow, it has a music track that is 3+ minutes long, pretty nice graphics, and transitions. I started builing in Flash and am halfway done... it looks great too !
Problem is, when I'm testing the preloader with the download profiler set to DSL - it crawls and at 1% and on, the soundtrack starts to play... by the time the download is at 42% its at least a minute into the soundtrack and it's in and out, coming on then cutting out but not starting over. Needless to say, this is not okay! I know it's a huge file. SHould I maybe export it as an mov and put it in a FLV player?

I am making a file uploader but it is giving me this error: "Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2039: Invalid remote URL protocol. The remote URL protocol must be HTTP or HTTPS."
but on a server it seems to work (the progress listener shows the files are being loaded [use the scrollbuttons or scroll over the text area]), until all is done and the files dont appear on the server.
Below is all my code. I hope someone can help me through this, it is really important atm. I've tried some tutorials and sources but can't find the error.

I am working on a Iphone application using flash cs5 and iPhone Packager. I have created an ipa file successfully and I have used a correct UDID while generating certificates or mobileprovision file. But the file does not install on iPad. I have even published for both iPad and iPhone
I simply used iTunes and draged the ipa file from my desktop to iTune app library. After that I synced the app. But it does not appear on the app list.
I'm trying to import this xml file into flash, but don't know exactly what to do.

its got a bunch of .fla, .swf and .html files which i just have to edit with my information. pretty easy.I uploaded all the files to my server and everything works great.so ive been editing the .fla files, inserting my pictures and information then publishing the .swf files and putting them back on the server and everthing looks great.
* The problem is that after uploading my last .swf file my webpage stopped working... i can see the front page put it doesnt load and when i click on my links it doesnt go to them.When i open the .swf file i get this ERROR:

It looks like the .swf file is looking xml/menu.xml on the server but for some reason the path is all wrong and the path appears to be to my Mac and not the server.
I'm trying to get a working .fla file of the .swf at the bottom of this page... [URL] I tried the free version of SoThink's decompiler, but all I got was a black box with lots of layers. I'm using Flash CS3.

View 1 RepliesSo I've been having an issue with a SWF not work on a page and this is what I can seem to come up with after hours of messing with Dreamweaver and Flash trying to understand why it won't work. When i test the movie from the working Flash file, it works no problem.Something is going wrong when I export or publish the movie and it no longer works. Is this something that happens? .this site needs to go up in the next day or so and the SWF was working and then stopped working and I'm honestly not a Flash gal so I really have no business messing with it, but it was a specific request.
