I load external swf file into main movie. and i give that child a name page0 there is a bit of code.

so after its loaded i want to insert some text into external swf using main movie. i managed to remove external swf, like this ActionScript Code: holder_mc0.removeChild(holder_mc0.getChildByName("pages0")); but i wonder how to insert text into that swf. i don't understand how hierarchy works, when you addChild, what name should i use for my external files. for example ActionScript Code: holder_mc0. ?????? .mainTemplate.tContent.text = "TEXT"

how can I change the txtField.text without using the addChild function in the main class?? because the Content Class is already visible when you compile it.. and when I remove the that addChild function, the txtField.text is still in its default value which is "Lorem Ipsum"

I'm trying to have a class file which can add objects to the stage via addChild; however, when I call addChild from within the class file, I get the error "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild." I've tried importing flash.display.* and that doesn't fix the problem. Does the class file have to extend Sprite or MovieClip to be able to add objects to the stage?

I have downloaded Box2d ([URL]) and created a project that looks like this: [URL]. catalyst is the green cube and it has the base class "shapes.box", it is inside "world" which has the base class "wck.World". What i want to do is to add another "catalyst" from the library inside "world" when i click on add_btn. I tried to accomplish this by this code:

I have a main.swf that loads in an external swf called home.swf. I want to be able to call a function in main.swf's doc class from the loaded swf:

in the main timeline of home.swf I'm calling it this way:

the home.swf compiles fine but when loaded in the main.swf & the button is pressed i get this error:
TypeError: Error #1006: loadArtist is not a function.
at home_fla::MainTimeline/timeToGo()
It seems that it thinks loadArtist is a property. Ack. I've got 3 objects loaded dynamically using addChildAt(mc, 0) ...

I am trying to get an instance of a class to the load an external swf and show it.So far I have the following:
1) I wrote a class that uses the Loader class to load an external swf "loadExtSWF".
2) I have a fla named "MainSWF.fla" that uses a document class "MainSWF.as".
3) I have the MainSWF.as file that instances "loadExtSWF" and calls loadExtSWF.startLoad to load the swf.
This almost works. The instance of loadExtSWF loads the external swf, but the swf is not displayed.If I replace the fla's document class with loadExtSWF (this has an empty constructor) instead of MainSWF, and run loadExtSWF.startLoad, then the external swf is loaded and displayed.[code]

I have a main "shell" swf which, by clicking several buttons, will load/unload various external swfs into a Placeholder_mc which resides on the main timeline in Shell.swf In the documentation and tutorials I've seen a couple different methods, and I'm not sure I quite understand the difference, or at least the reason you would use one over the other...In the 1st method, you can just add the Loader object using the addChild() method:

myLoader.load(myURLRequest);
Placeholder_mc.addChild(myLoader);
This will apparently add myLoader to the display list once it has completely loaded.The 2nd method, you supposedly can add the Loader.content; however, it appears you can only do this once the content has completed loading, so you need to incorporate an event handler with the contentLoaderInfo object:

I have an FLA in which there are a number of MovieClips in its library. I also have a document class for this FLA, which I will refer to as Body.as from here out.From Body.as, I call other classes designed to put stuff together and allow for organization due to large amount of MCs I have to use in the FLA. For reference, these classes are called as such: Head.as, Chest.as, Arms.as, etc etc.Now, where Body.as is the document class, and is therefore functioning to operate all areas in the FLA, I wanted to use these additional class files to be used to manage anything related to them, including any MCs I have. I'll use Head.as for explaining. To that end, I have four MCs, each named as follows:hat1hat2hathat4s part of trying to organize it all, I want to be able to call a singular function in Head.as that will retrieve these MovieClips and add them to the stage (Or, as I hope to do once I get a bit further in, add them to a larger MC that will then be added to the stage).

Using Child Navigation to load main time line.I am new to AS3 and have done pretty well but have been caught up this area.I have been loading swfs into a loader (imageLoader) which has been added to the stage using addChild. Then with buttons and functions I load other swfs into the same loader which replace each other. I now have an swf "testProject3a.swf" loaded into (imageLoader) which has icons for navigation and when each icon is clicked I need it to load another swf into (imageLoader) and replace it's self "testProject3a.swf" with "portalB.swf".I've tried adding removeChild code to the loaded swf but it removes the original (imageLoader) and the other buttons have nothing to load into.[code]

I Have a flashmovie thats almost done and will soon hit the internet, but I want to add some animations into the website it�s two gears that I�m about to put at the bottom of the page and when a button releases in the main flashmovie the two bottom gears will turn a few frames and just stand still.These three movies are all separate (main movie, first gear and second gear).
It's a homepage designed in HTML and flash that has this "main flashmovie" in the middle of the screen, the size is about 1500(width)X800(height). And the gears is about 800wX200h placed at the left and right side bottom of the page. Dont worry the site is easy to apply to any screen resolution.I have been looking everywhere for any soul out there who suffering from the same problem but no success. Is it possible to script a button in the main movie to launch two separate movies in their own contents?

When I do this there are no errors, but the 'addChild' function is not working. if I put the addChild function in the Main.as then everything works just fine. So my question is: How can I Let the addChild function work from another class then the main class.

I may be losing my mind. I am simply trying to add a textfield and addchild to that textfield.

Works great until I try to addChild to that textField from either Frame 1 or the class itself. I can trace it perfectly, trace the class, trace the functions, trace everything in the functions but I can not addChild.

I have this class called AD. Its attached to my stage. AD then calls a class file called setupBoxes.
setupBoxes sets up a box using box2d (which has nothing to do with my question so dont stop reading here), attaches a movieclip to it, and attempts to "addChild". No errors, but no results.The thing is, in setupBoxes i even tryed using this code which i found on another forum.

For a school assignment I'm making a panorama version of my own room using a cube with 6 pictures in it. It created the panorama, it works great.But now I want to add clickable objects in it. One of the requirements is that my code is OOP focused. So that's what I am trying right now.
Currently I got two classes
- Main.as (Here i make the panorama cube as the room)
- photoWall.as (Here I want to create my first clickable object)
Now my problem is: I want to addChild a clickable object from photoWall.as to my panorama room. But he doesn't show it? I think it has something to do with the scenes. I use a new scene in Main.as and in photoWall.as. No errors or warnings are reported This is the piece in photoWall.as were I want to addChild my object (photoList):

I am trying to add an object to my main stage via the addChild() method. Normally, when working within the FLA itself, using addChild(myObject) works just fine. However, it does not work within an external AS class.
All of the other tutorials I have found showed me how to do something like this, which is not what I need:

I've created a function that works on the main stage and I am trying to transfer it to an external class to make it an easily reusable function.When I run it however, everything works except for the fact that it doesn't put anything on the stage as it should. I was trying to add a TextField to the stage from an external class. I've made a small example of the part that isn't working for me.
