I want to have a hidden menu so I have put some buttons in a MC and added it to the main stage but I am having trouble controlling the stage with the buttons in the movie clip. I think I need to reference the main stage some how... parent or something like that but I'm not really sure and don't know where to put the code.

I have a problem with gotoAndPlay option.I have 2 layers with 3 keyframes, on 2nd frame i have movie clip image_mc which has a dropdown menu and here i will stop the timeline. On mouseover of image_mc I will get a dropdown in which if I click on 1st menu the timeline should go and stop on 3rd keyframe of main stage, but its going to 3rd frame inside movie clip, how to come out of mc on click.

I have created an XML driven Drop Down menu using the kirupa tut by Senocular found here. I am trying to figure out how to get the submenus to push the rest of the main menu down on rollover kind of like this. Not sure where to start to get the AS to get the button created fromt he XML nodes to move down.I haven't changed the code found int he tut too much and the menu works fine except that the rollovers just go over the main menu.

I am looking at creating a menu with three movieclip buttons on a main menu. I want to keep these buttons on the top of the screen at all times. I am opening different swf's and I want to make sure that the buttons are still showing. I know there is something with changing or swapping the depth of the movie clip when it loads the new swf's in, but I have not found anything that is seeming to work.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Get The Sub Menu To Jump Back To The Main Menu?

I'm working on a web menu, that has sub menus. I'm currently trying to get the sub menu to jump back to the main menu if the mouse is no longer inside the submenu zone.

It works if I move the mouse quickly to another part of the Flash area, but if I quickly move it out of the Flash area and onto say the html document, it doesn't update fast enough, and thus still thinks the mouse is hovering over it.

I know I can simply update the movie frame rate which does work, but I was wondering if there is any way to get Flash to check to see if the mouse IS ACTUALLY ACTIVE over it, and if not close the submenu?

So i am working on a pause menu for my game. I have an inventory box that has slots for weapons, powerups, and other items. I wanted different boxes that are specific to each type of pick-up (weapons, powerups, other). So I drew a box with 3 frames, it is set up similar to tabs in a web browser; click on weapons tab and you see your weapons in your inventory, click on powerups tab and you see the powerups etc...

In each frame I gave the inventory slots different instance names, i.e. in weapons; weaponSlot1, weaponSlot2, and in powerups; powerupSlot1, powerupSlot2.

When the player bumps into an item, i use gotoAndStop('frame number') so that each item is added to the proper inventory slot. the only problem is that if i bump into a key then pause the game, the key is there (under 'Other' tab), but if i click the 'weapon' tab and then go back to 'other', the key is no longer there.

This makes sense because when you click on each tab, i use gotoAndStop('frame number'), and in each frame the inventory slots are blank, so im stumped on how to keep each item in the proper slots?

I am going to i upload all my files in a zip, the main file that you will want to look at is the PauseMenu.as file

Also you will notice 3 public functions called 'checkWeaponSlots', 'checkPowerupSlots', and 'checkOtherSlots'. These are called in my main file, when the player bumps into an item, these functions are called to check which slots are empty.

I'm familiar with AS2 and just getting started with AS3. I found a submenu fla I would like to use, and I have everything set up, just not sure how to attach movies from the library when someone clicks a navigation button.In AS2 I would have made an empty mc and used attachMovie when the button is released.I've looked at some of the addChild questions and tutorials here, but since I'm working with pre-written code for a submenu, I'm not sure about how to modify what I've read to work in that code.Here's the code that sets up the submenu, the last function (navigate) is where I'm not sure how to instruct flash to load an mc when one of the buttons (from the var subButton:Array) is clicked. Using Child Navigation to load main time line.I am new to AS3 and have done pretty well but have been caught up this area.I have been loading swfs into a loader (imageLoader) which has been added to the stage using addChild. Then with buttons and functions I load other swfs into the same loader which replace each other. I now have an swf "testProject3a.swf" loaded into (imageLoader) which has icons for navigation and when each icon is clicked I need it to load another swf into (imageLoader) and replace it's self "testProject3a.swf" with "portalB.swf".I've tried adding removeChild code to the loaded swf but it removes the original (imageLoader) and the other buttons have nothing to load into.[code]

Flash - Stage Shifts When Using AddChild?

I'm having a very odd bug with ActionScript 3 in Flash CS4. I am adding movie clips to a stage in a for loop and then moving them out of view so that I can pull them in and remove them when I need them.

I've narrowed down the issue to a point that I know that every time one of the movie clips are added to the stage using addChild(), the stage shifts to the right by one pixel. I know that sounds odd, but it's literally true... the 0 line on the y axis is shifted to the right one pixel every time the movie clip is added.

I am trying to add an object to my main stage via the addChild() method. Normally, when working within the FLA itself, using addChild(myObject) works just fine. However, it does not work within an external AS class.

All of the other tutorials I have found showed me how to do something like this, which is not what I need:

I've created a function that works on the main stage and I am trying to transfer it to an external class to make it an easily reusable function.When I run it however, everything works except for the fact that it doesn't put anything on the stage as it should.
