ActionScript 3.0 :: Convert Flash WYSIWYG Text Editor From <font> Tags To CSS?
Sep 5, 2011
I have WYSIWYG text editor for flash. Works great. Allows me to edit text, save it as a text file and then load it either back into flash or alternatively into HTML. Problem is that Flash uses the <font> tag which is deprecated in HTML4 and will be removed in HTML5 due to CSS. So given that flash can use CSS I wonder:Is there a way to build a WYSIWYG text editor in Flash that uses CSS ?Has anyone heard of this being done? or even done it them selves I'm after any information at all even if it's just a reason why it won't work or assurance that it will.
Since AS2 supports only the old deprecated tags for HTML, I'm looking for a WYSIWYG editor (javascript) that will work with these and not the "style" attribute.
I am looking for a very basic html editor (similar to the one being used in this forum to make entries - only more basic)...which ONLY uses html tags supported by the AS2 textfield....
do you know of a WYSIWYG equation editor, like DragMath, implemented in javascript/mathml or Flash? I could embed DragMath as well, but I was wondering if there's a way to have a good WYSIWYG formula editor without requiring the users to run a Java applet.
I got this text that I want to convert to uppercase...the problem is that my server is linux, and files are case sensitive..So I need to convert the text to UpperCase, except what's inside the html tags.This prototype removes the HTML tags... convert this to, instead removing the HTML, ingore the text to become upperCase?
Code: String.prototype.removeHTML = function(){ var temp, i; var xStr = this; var total = xStr.length;
It seems htmlText is rearranging the html tags. Even though the output is the same, I need the original html back since I am making a text editor and the AFTER htmlText is messing up my tag calculations.
i have a problem with the flash textFormat. I want to write an editor, which only outputs bold (<b>) and italic (<i>) tags and not the other information flash adds to an htmlText.
for example in this case the output trace (myTextField.htmlText) should be exactly the input.
My plan was to avoid trying anything with regex and create an XML object.
However if I create a new XML object containing a root node and then attempt to appendChild the htmlText string so that I have a valid XML object to manipulate I run into a problem with html entities, see example below:
<html><P ALIGN="LEFT"><FONT FACE="...
How can the font tags be stripped from htmlText and how can I create a valid XML object from the htmlText string? My plan was to use the XML replace() method
I've been trying to build a user interface that would allow someone to change the content of a dynamic field (loaded from a text file) using a rich text editor. However the editor inserts inline css style tags like <span style="text-decoration: underline;"> which Flash aparently can't understand. If the editor were instead to insert the following: <span class="ul"> where the stylesheet defined it as:
I'm trying to create a flash xml editor based on senocular's news editor but I am having some trouble getting the xml file to load. My xml file is structured as below[code]...
I am working on a as3 project in which the user select a font from Combo Box and that font SWF should be loaded Dynamically and then i need to change the font of the Dynamic text field.
I have swf font files downloaded from [URL]
My question is that how can i load the font swf dynamically from server and add them to the library and how can i use that swf to change the font of dynamic text field.
if there are embedded fonts in library the i can access them using this- --
var fontList:Array = Font.enumerateFonts(); for( var i:int=0; i<fontList.length; i++ ) { trace( "font: " + fontList[ i ].fontName ); }
But How to use dynamically loaded Font swf as a font type.
I seem to have the [Embed] tag working OK for embedding fonts But I want to specify font and font location in an xml file, read in the font location, and pass it into the [Embed] statement. Like this
var xFont = xFormat..navcontrols.font; //then... [Embed(source = xFont, fontName = 'myFont', mimeType = 'application/x-font-truetype')] var csgFont:Class;
The error I get is
'unable to resolve 'xFont' for transcoding
I want to keep this all in AS3 if at all possible. I dont want to use the Flash IDE to create embedded fonts. I would ideally like to minimize the impact of changing a font.
Does anyone have any experience using external actionscript editors? I've given a brief look at SE|PY, but not sure why it's any better than the native editor in Flash.
Does anyone know of a free flash text editor. Something that I can put on my website to update the text without going into the flash file and reuploading.

While creating one photo gallery I am facing one problem in controlling the Font Color, Font Size and other characteristics of a text loaded into a text field from an XML File. The name of the text field in question is my_txt it loads the title from the xml file attached herewith. how I can control the behavior of the text loaded in that text field.
i got a working flash text editor. It loads up a text file from a database and displays it in a dynamic textbox and allows you to edit it however you want and save it by sending variables to a php script which than saves the changes to the text file. It works great and when i download the tect file from the database it displays what i/anyone has saved. Only issue is when i refresh the page the text box is displaying what the text file used to say. i checked the database and thats not what the text file contains. =/ I have NO idea what would be causing this, as it loads the text file directly when the page is refreshed so it SHOULD display what the text files most recent contents are. any ideas? test it out at Simmpole(dot)com/flips/testtextsaver/tophp.swf
edit : i also tried making a button that forced flash to reload the text file and no luck.i also tried throwing the code that loads the text file in a ENTER_FRAME event and still no luck.
I've been trying to find a text editor/word processor style app made in flash. I've also been trying to build one but I figure it can't hurt to search as well.
I'm specifically looking for an fla that allows a user to change font, size, colour, bold, italic etc. and allow the user to select parts of the text to change. ie. like how Word or any text editor works.

Firstly, I am using a TextField object of type input as the text input area of the text editor. So I am wondering, in your opinion, what would work best for formatting the text in this field?[code]...
Remember the text will always be changing at the user's whim in the movie, and I am looking for simplicity in applying certain styles to only selected portions of the input text and also setting styles for all future text that is input beyond what is already input (Could be a different style than that of the text already input)
Secondly, I am having a little trouble with the TextFormat Object option. I have a textfield, and a toolbar movieclip (with buttons such as bold, underline, italics, etc) on my stage. I am writing an actionscript class for the toolbar. I want to be able to capture the start index and end index of highlighted text in the textbox, so that say when I press the bold button, the text is bolded or unbolded. I have tried using Selection.getStartIndex() and Selection.getEndIndex() but they have not yet worked for me, as the selection loses focus when I click on the toolbar in the movie. I was hoping there was some sort of onHighlightText handler for the Selection class, so that I can capture the start and end indices whenever text is highlighted. However, there appears to be nothing with that functionality.
I'm trying to use the AlivePDF library to export text from a text editor created in AS3 into a PDF. Can anyone link me to documentation or a tutorial that can help teach me how to integrate it into a normal AS3 file? I have no idea how to use the library and the only documentation I've seen for it is how to use it in Flex/Air, which is not what I'm looking for.
my main class is Editor my sub class is a CustomTextField i need my Editor to keep track of what the active CustomTextField is, since there can be more than one. i want to have a variable, activeTextField:String to keep track of the active CustomTextField. i created getters and setters on editor to keep track of activeTextField. how do i call these getters and setters from the editor w/out using static getters and setters on the editor? this has to be confusing to read because i am utterly confused writing it...
