ActionScript 3.0 :: Create A Scrolling Background Whilst Keeping The Car Static In The Centre Of The Screen?
Aug 17, 2011
Ok i have been looking at a racing game and have used the tutorial from this link here:[URL]...What i am having trouble with is trying to create a scrolling background whilst keeping the car static in the centre of the screen. Ane example of what im trying to do is here:[URL]...So i have tried incorporating the code from that scrolling background example, into the car racing game itself but i am having trouble doing so. Is there any way that the code used from the scrolling background can be input into the racing game example to create this scrolling background effect?

I am using a mx:Resize effect to change the width of an image in Flex (leaving the height to look after itself) but I want the image to remain vertically centered on the page. Whilst I could calculate the aspect ratio of the photo, and work out the new y value to keep it centred, I would have to include a mx: Move effect too, and I am hopful that Flex has a simpler way. This is for a photo gallery where images are loaded at run-time, and swapped about.
So I really would like to avoid recalculating the aspect ratio and vertical position every time the updateComplete event fires, I tried putting my image inside a mx: VBox with verticalAlign="middle", thinking that the box would do all the centering for me, but this only seems to happen when the app first starts - i need it to gradually adjust the position during the period where the effect plays (to keep it central even when part-way through).
Here's a stripped-down example (which doesn't work):
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="[URL]" layout="absolute" width="600" height="600">
<mx:Resize id="fxResize" target="{imgPhotoA}" widthTo="350" duration="500" />
<mx:Button x="10" y="10" label="Resize" click="fxResize.play()" />
<mx:VBox id="boxPhotoA" x="100" y="20" height="500" width="350" verticalAlign="middle" borderStyle="solid" verticalScrollPolicy="off" horizontalScrollPolicy="off">
<mx:Image id="imgPhotoA" width="60" maintainAspectRatio="true" source="[URL]"/>
</mx:VBox></mx:Application>

I am trying to emulate an effect like this site uses...
[URL]
and I've basically poached their script, a jQuery initiated 100% width and height background that loads into a couple of holding containers.
The thing I would like to do differently is fix the background in place so the content can scroll over it. How can I, say, write the flash movie to the BODY background or something like that? I'm not a javascript wiz and am not sure how I might do this.

I would like to create a scrolling background for a web site (something that functions like the old 2d pane scroller games). Does anyone know of any books/articles that address this functionality?

I am trying to create a scrolling or parallex background for my site. This is a pretty popular effect and I cannot find code for it anywhere on the web. The ones I have seen is for AS2, have used the if statement. Also, do I have to create an invisible movieclip that goes over the whole stage so that AS know where x of mouse is?

I'm trying to create a endlessly scrolling bitmap background. I want to make it as efficient as possible as there is plenty of other game logic going on too. The idea is to have a repeatable bitmap scroll horizontally on an endless loop, which can obviously be achieved by placing two sprites of the same bitmap next to each other and offsetting one when it reaches the far left boundary. I was wondering if there is perhaps a faster more efficient way to do this, perhaps using scrollRect or copyPixels? If anyone has any idea which method would be fastest,

I need to be able to continue rendering a SWF file whilst it is off screen or minimized. Taken from the adobe website: "This is an automatic feature in Flash Player since version 10.1. Flash Player minimizes processing when SWF content goes off-screen."
I have extensively searched around for a solution on this. One solution suggested was to use the HTML parameter "hasPriority" and set it to true which will ensure some things are not paused. SWF content will stop rendering regardless of this when off screen or hidden.Does anyone know if it is possible to disable this automatic feature so my SWF will continue to render off screen?

I have seen a couple of flash movies of late that have a nifty element to them, when the user resizes his window the movie slides to the centre or relative position, rather than snapping.THIS SITE is one example of the effect I mean When you resize your window the text moves gradually to a relative position.How is this done? is it via action scripting or through the html/java?It is a nice little touch, I like it. Do you think if you can dictate the position of certain elements you can dictate the size of elements according to window size?

I have my flash site working ok, but want the pop up browsers that are sized to pop up in the centre of the screen, instead of the bottom! Anyone know how to fix this? I'm using the following code on buttons:
on (release) {

This is my semi-finished art project URL...If you open it normally (providing you have a webcam) it works perfectly however I'm looking to showcase the piece on a projector and need to have it full screen.[code]I have made the piece so that the "orbs" rotate around the center point and the diamter of the rotation alters dependant on the activity level of the webcam. It looks very pretty when you open the swf. normally but when full screened the centres of rotation are completely off.Whats the best way around this? I'm in desperate need of full screen capability! [code]ps forgot to mention. all code is inside a blank movieclip called "orb" and then a copy of the movieclip is placed in every corner but flipped/rotated to achieve the butterfly/symmetry effect. this is the issue i belive that effects the full screen stuff.

I'm making this banner, or FMA if you rather call it that, for a company (school assignment). I have some text fading in and out displaying the message. But I want an interactive FMA.I want to make some buttons, and when you go mouse-over on them, I want a picture to be displayed (different image for each button), WHILE the animation keeps going. Thats not the tough part.However, when the animation repeats (starts from the beginning), and if I'm holding the cursor over the button connected to the picture, the picture disappears and I have to go over the button again. I want to make an interactive flash file, and the way I want to have it layed out is that a steady animation will play in one layer, while being able to jump around in frames with events such as a mouseover.I'm going to give a generic example, this isn't what I'm going to do, but it gets the point across.Theres a house and a tree. The leaves on the tree are falling, and upon mouseover of the house door, the door will open. Yet the leaves will remain falling (without skipping frames in the animation) while the door is still opening.How do you do this without using a goToAndPlay(x) or such that jumps the whole animation?

I have converted a large background image (much larger than the stage) into a Movie Clip. I did this so I can make it scroll as the player traverses to the edge of the scene.This appears to make the player free to roam the entire background image.I have a tree symbol with a class attached to it that blocks player movement.Here is my problem:
When I drag and drop instances of the tree symbol onto the background, the trees are stationary and do not scroll with the background.I do not want to have to implement code to make the trees scroll when the background does.I was wondering if there was a way to simply attach the trees to the background so that if the background moves, the trees move with it and appear to be part of the background as if they were drawn into it.It is convenient for me to be able to drag and drop as many trees as i need to block certain routes on the background from the player.I tried writing code to make the trees move but it was only working for the very last tree that I added to the scene.

I'm making a side-scrolling game, with a (theoretically) infinite background. I have a block engine that places the blocks on the bitmap canvas. Now here's the catch. I'm using the bitmapData.scroll() function. Now unless I clear the screen each time the character moves, it's going to leave ghost images of the border of the screen, like this picture: zanzlanz. tumblr. com/post/18857712784 If I clear the screen each time, then it generates a lot of lag (because it has to repaint the objects again). I'm a bit lost on how I can scroll without leaving streaks of the side of the screen and without repainting the entire screen.

Im trying to animate a scrolling background which is simple enough. I dont want the background animation to scroll when the game is first loaded, I only want it to begin scrolling after the play button is clicked.
Ive used stop(); command in the first line of the MovieClip instance that is the back ground.
Some things I have tried
- Coding in flash to scroll the background, add a check to see once the background reached a certain x.position on the stage, it would addChild the same instance, where it originally was located and repeat the scroll process. I couldnt get this work, but would be intersted to see how you guys would approach it.
-Tried using a gotoAndPlay(2); in the movieclip last key frame to repeat the process. This causes the animation to chop up. I tried using this several diffrent ways, I could get it work at one point. But the background would scroll before the button was even clicked, I couldnt figure out a work around.
