View 5 RepliesI'm new to flex. Now I'm writing an flex application. I plan to split my application into some MXML files(Application as the root tag). How can I switch from one mxml to another?BTW, what is the best practice for design large flex application? Just one MXML Application and many MXML component or many MXML Application?
View 1 RepliesA Flex components values are initlized by init methord. In an application flow, How to refresh a mxml component data value ; as init is callled at the start up it self only.
eg. of mxml componet may be as simple as button label or text as complex as repeater whose data provider is a web service ( means a fresh quesy should be made to pull the data and refresh the dataprovider of repeater )
In Flex 3, you just said
<mx:Image source="@Embed('foo.swf')"/>
What is the preferred way to do this with Flex 4? Should I just keep using Image?
Is it possible to move a flex mxml project into flash?
i have the project complete in mxml with actionscript but due to the fact that flex is limited in its visual animations ( no timeline! ) i would prefer to switch to using flash.
they both seem to accomplish the same things with different syntax, whats the point of using two different technologies. highlight every possible benefit of using mxml. Also are there scenarios when one is more beneficial than the other and why. clarify this runtime behavior of mxml vs AS3 as discussed in Oreilly Flex 4 Cookbook page 1:

There's an HTML technique known as innerHTML that allows Javascript to add/delete/edit HTML elements. Can actionscript do something similar to MXML?
For example, my main application's mxml part is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute">
<mx:Button x="29" y="347" label="Button"/>
</mx:Application>
But after running an actionscript code, I want the user to see the result of:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute">
<mx:Button x="29" y="347" label="Button"/>
<mx:RichTextEditor x="183" y="24" title="Title">
</mx:RichTextEditor>
</mx:Application>
Is this possible with Actionscript inside a MXML file? p.s: is this possible with Degrafa library elements?
Since I have to get data from other red5 application. is it possible using multiple netconnection in one mxml application?
View 1 RepliesIn mxml application made in flex if i place a part of actionscript code in separate file and include it in mail application using (fx:Script source) , then do i have to import all the mx and spark components in .as included file even though they are were already imported in main mxml application ? For example if i have mx alert already imported in main mxml file then will i have to import in again in the .as file placed externally although .as file is included in main mxml application ?
View 1 RepliesI have Flex application requiring to filter users depending on there database groups.Depending on which group they are, the're is a config.xml file that is use to populate the swf.Here is how I figure how to do this : 1. The client comes to a .aspx page with a form requiring a username and a password. 2. On the server side I confirm the user credential . Once the username/password is valid I redirect to the mxml file with the config.xml file in the html headers (post).My problem comes when I need to get the post data from the http request. Let's say I have this code :
<mx:Application initialize="init()">

Canvas.addChild() insists any DisplayObject added implements IUIComponent. But I don't want my core graphics engine dependent on Flex. Is there an obvious/common way around this, to have simple graphical objects like Sprites & Shapes in a Flex application? The individual DisplayObject children I want to add as children represent objects in a game world, like a spaceship or a missile or a horse...
Not sure if Canvas is the most appropriate container, perhaps Group or another class is optimal for a game-engine... example MXML & AS3 code showing a skeleton setup is most welcome. I'm targeting Flex4 & Flash 10, but Flex3/Flash9 solutions are still of interest.
I would like to send variables or parameters from Component to Main (MXML) Application. Like my component is FileUpload.mxml and would like to forward the uploaded file details from FileUpload.mxml to Main.mxml.
I tried the following procedure :
com:FileUpload id="fp"
to get the reference for the FileUpload component, however, I am unable to get the variables from the FileUpload.mxml file.
I have the following problem of how to display another mxml file as main view of application For example, lets say I have main.mxml displaying as main window. When I click button I want to display another mxml file lets say newMain.mxml and close main.mxml
View 1 RepliesI'm implementing a Flex application with several modules.I'm reusing the same component in all these modules.I was wondering if I'm correctly importing it in each mxml module definition: xmlns:hillelcoren="com.hillelcoren.components.*"Should I import it only once, in the main application mxml instead?
View 1 RepliesHow can i design a 3D carousel for video/images to run on standalone Flash Player on my Desktop? I am using Flash Builder 4 to develop this as a mxml application, but found that it doesn't allow access to local filesystem. My specific requirement is that I want it running on the local computer and in SWF files viewed in a user's browser. Is there a sample code to do what I am trying to do? This application has states and transition, like one state for a video gallery and one state for a image gallery
View 1 RepliesIn my main application I have a viewstack with 3 child views. In the viewstack change handler, I programmatically change the selectedchild property.
I understand that the initialize method for the view is not called every time I change the selectedChild Property. So I tried to invoke the init method programmatically too..

I am using Flash profassional cs5 and want to create an iPad application but it only allow to make iphone application. It allows to install on iPad but the resolution is very small.
View 1 RepliesI need to make my Flash application create a connection to a remote application and have the remote application send periodic updates to my Flash animation. The remote app is written in VB 6, and does not support XML sockets. However, I don't need the ability to send or receive XML since I am going to be overriding the onLoad() event anyway.
Or maybe I do need that ability... I'm having trouble getting my onLoad() event to trigger. Right now I'm just testing the onLoad event like this:
[code]...
So, basically I'm trying to find out how I can format the data I'm sending it so that the onLoad() event triggers. I've read that the XMLSocket object listens for the Null byte, so perhaps the data I'm sending it doesn't terminate properly. I need a persistent connection from Flash to the VB app because the VB app will be the one initiating the updates to the Flash application. Is the XMLSocket the way to go here, or is there another class of objects that I'm missing?
So yahoo astra has grate compohent for saving inputed data. They show examples of how to use it. But I had not found one capable to solve my current problem. For example user inputed his name. It is saved, but when he comes again he always needs to input at least first latter of his name. so I wonder - how to make Yahoo astra autocompletemanager component to pop up last inputed into it value on application creation complete?

Let's say I have an interface
public interface IFoo {
...
}
[Code]....
and have it be instantiated at runtime by a factory.
However, the compiler won't let me do this-- it's trying to do "new IFoo" in the generated ActionScript.
How to get around this? How can I use an interface and a factory purely in MXML?
I want to create a actionscript mobile project in FB4.5. There is very little information on this by the way. Anyway I want to link to another mxml component by clicking on a button. in flex it is easy but how do i call this in AS3?[URL]..
this is how flex does it <s:Button label="Continue" click="navigator.pushView(MyNewView)" styleName="next"/>
I have a number of GUI dialogs defined using MXML. Assuming these mxml objects have been compiled into my application, is there any way to instantiate these objects using ActionScript, sort of like this?[code]...
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create simple custom component with two labels with this MXML:
<mx:Canvas xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" width="250" height="30">
<mx:String id="result" />
<mx:Label x="5" y="7" id="titleLabel" text="{label}" width="120"/>
<mx:Label x="125" y="7" id="resultLabel" text="{result}" width="120" textAlign="right" color="#A41D00"/>
</mx:Canvas>
It is working well at runtime, bud I have troubles making it working at design-time. How can I make databinding work at the design time? If it is impossible, how should I code the label text assignments?
I'm new to ActionScript and Flex but I was wondering, when do you create an MXML component and when do you simply code it in ActionScript? Does it matter either way, what are the pros & cons to both?
Does an MXML Component essentially create it's own class when compiled?
There are lots of examples of how to create skinnable components in AS3 using the new Spark component architecture, however I've yet to find any such examples using MXML.What I'm mainly referring to is defining the skin parts and skin states. It seems as though the SkinPart metadata is supposed to be associated with properties and as such can't be used in MXML, is this correct?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to create my first real world Flex application. I will have a lot of different data entry / data view screens so I thought I would create many different components to deal with each different type of data that was being returned. I have a MXML application called Layout, and have component called "Navigator" which controls the menu, as well as a ViewStack called "MainContent".
I want the Navigator component to change the ViewStack on the Layout application to that of another Component (each Component is embedded within the Canvas of each ViewStack). I have a click handler on my Navigator which looks like this: Layout.ContentFrame.selectedChild=event.itemRenderer.data.clickValue; However it shows the error "Access of possibly undefined property ContentFrame through a reference with a static type Class." Is my approach a good way of doing it? I have attempted referencing it using FlexGlobals.Layout and topLevelApplication.Layout... neither of which work?[URL]
I want to use actionscript 3 to create mxml(flex 4) controls dynamically and automatically taking care of layout. For example, if I want to put 6 buttons and a s:label in a layout container by just specifying the positioning of the container and not the locations of individual controls.
View 1 RepliesDoes MXML get compiled down to as3 and then converted to flash bytecode? Also, is there a significant performance penalty to compiling mxml vs compiling as3?
View 3 RepliesI am working on a custom Flex 4 component which is an aggregation of two existing flex components. I would like to be able to specify my own custom properties for the component as well as access the existing public subcomponent properties via MXML. For instance I might want to adjust the font color or style for the label and text input. toy component which aggregates both a label and a text input:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Group xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
[code]....
I am trying to override a Button class, i have a few properties which i wish directly initialise with the mxml description of the component, like :[code]which function is triggered ( in order to override it ) when all properties with mxml description is fully initialised with their values ?
