I'm trying to display htmltext from xml file in my dynamic text field.I used: dynamic_ txt. htmltext=textFromXML;I embedded the fonts Latin 1, Latin Extended A, because I want to display characters like "�", "�", " is space and it displays correctly, but "¡" which is "�" displayes "¡" so that does not work.

It has a input textfield, the right fontdata and characters are embedded, but slovenian users can't input some chars Although it works when they copy/paste text into the inputfield, then the characters show and all seems well. But actually typing them seems to fail. So i know it's not the infamous wmode bug.

I'm sending an xml file from flash to php, so php can save it to the servers filesystem.It works great, except when there's a node with a special char like a quote in it.My actionscript code is like this:

Both somewhat simplified, but this is what matters I think.I'm not sure about the urldecode part, but I've got this problem always, no matter if I use it or not.I've traced the xml object, and I see that the quote is converted to ' then. That's great, but when php writes it, it stops there, so I end with only half of an xml file.

I have a Flex/Actionscript 3 application that displays RSS feeds in a Text element. It strips out any HTML formatting present, but it's not handling HTML special entity codes properly -- it's rendering &mdash as the literal string instead of replacing it with an em-dash, etc. Is there any systematic way I can make it handle those codes properly, or am I going to need to manually replace those strings regex style?Some aspects of Flex behavior that are relevant: both text and htmlText handle a limited subset of the characters properly with no further tweaking -- <, >,  , etc. (In fact, text actually handles them a little better than htmlText, as the latter treats < as a literal less-than character.) But there's a much larger set of characters (°, &mdash, and many others) that aren't handled properly -- at least, not by default.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to show < and > in dynamic text fields, pulled in dynamically from an xml file. The text is embedded in a CDATA block and I use < and > to show them. This has worked fine with all previous versions of the Flash player, but Flash 10.1 seems to be trying to read this as html and does not display it.

I'm planning a webapp. I have all the wireframes defined, the interfaces designed in photoshop, data structures etc. It will be built on php and mysql however I've been unable to decide on which technology to use as a GUI. All your insights are welcome.
The problem with going the html way is that the GUI makes use of a special font that is crucial to the visual aspect of the app. So this font is required. For headers and fixed sections I could do sfir or use images but being a webapp, the amount of dynamically generated content makes it imposible to use image replacements. Enter flash. Flash solves the font problem easily, it even adds font antialiasing and animations which makes it look even sexier. Another pro is being able to deploy as an air app to use local storage for users that have troublesome connections. This way when internet access is restored the app can sync with the main servers. BUT... flash is being ignored by major developers, this would mean the app wouldn't be accessible to mobile devices, ipads,search engines, etc and requires the installation of the flash plugin which is not that big a deal but should be considered.
i'm trying to display this character "<" from an external txt file. Some how it doesnt work. I know that for some characters you have to change the code, examples if you want to display "+" you have to change it to %2b. I read in adobe.com that for "<" you have to change it %3c, and yet it doesnt work.

I can see it on my computer in internet explorer just fine (I must have installed something that is needed, or set up IE in some way, I guess).. but its not working on quite a few other computers I've tested it on - this is what they see:

View 2 RepliesI have several swf's and I can embed them within html without problem. However, one swf is causing me problems. This swf has an animation on the stage as a preloader. The rest of the swf is then completely run through an external as3 class. The as3 class loads an xml file and prepares the images. When its complete, it removes the loader removeChild(preloader); (the original animation which was displaying). If I run the swf on my computer, everything works great. As soon as I embed it, all that happens is the preloader animation constantly plays, and it never gets to the point to display the images. Is there something I need to do when I embed this swf into html to get it to work properly?
View 8 RepliesI'm loading text into a text field from an XML file. I'm creating a very simple CMS for someone's website and, if they put in a link I want it to show up on the site. I remember, years ago, being able to simply display XML as HTML, so when inserting.

How would one go about diplaying text from the html file within which the swf movie is embedded?
Basically i have a rotating banner on a page (jquery isn't right for this one) and wish to have the text messages within the diferent slides of the animation load from the html page.

I have a window on my Flash stage that has some scrollable copy in it. The problem is, I can't seem to have any formatting for the text ... if I select a word or two to make bold, it all turns bold. I gather I need to use the "Display Text as HTML" checkbox and then paste in some HTML formatted text but this doesn't seem to work. I searched this forum and found that others were designating "htmlText" in Actionscript instead of just "text" ... that didn't work either. I probably just did it wrong, or maybe it's becuase I'm using the UI component "UIscrollBar" for it's scrolling of the text.
Is there anything else I need to do to be able to format some text with strong tags and maybe some href links?

I think it's the way I calculate the number of lines in the string... How would I calculate the amount of lines using rich text?
The site I'm making uses a tabbed navigation and MooTools to fade the pages in and out. One of the pages has a Flash player embedded on it, and all of the others consist of pure HTML. The problem occurs on the HTML pages -- somehow the Flash player is causing the HTML pages to display oddly. Vertical borders and text will be jagged in the same locations of the top and bottom of the player.!

This does not work, flash has a bug with textfields. And there are lots of other bugs, for example: [URL]. Is it possible with some tricky IFrames?

nothing displays. The image and flash document are at the same level, so that is why I am using a relative link. Do I need to use a full (absolute) link to the image?

I'm actually looking to achieve almost the same results as the World of Warcraft launcher with a news section. the way i think to work it is that i create either a textArea component or a textfield and display html page in it. This html page could contain text, image and flash SWF.
but here's the problem, textField and textArea component are very limited in displaying and formating HTML pages. So i don't know if i should continue to search and try developping this way or find another way for displaying dynamic stuff that can be easily updated.
