whether using a String as the key in a Dictionary results in slower lookups than using an Object, Class or Custom Object (an instance of developer defined Type)?
When using a String as a key, does the literal String have to be parsed, or does the Dictionary key point to the String Object?
If I have an array, I can set the keys by doing the following:
var example:Array = new Array();
example[20] = "500,45";
example[324] = "432,23";
If I want to do something with Objects, how would I achieve this?I tried the following:
var example:Object = [{x:500, y:45}, {x:432, y:23}]; // Works but keys are 0 and 1

I understand I could do this:

But it doesn't suit me.

However, when the time runs out and you're taken to the screen where your score is displayed, the actionscript continues running and you still gain points by hitting the keys.I've tried using a boolean, but it did not do anything.
so first off, this is AS 2.0. Second, i have a little character from a tutorial on how to move an object around with the arrow keys. The character faces on way on "up" another on "down" and so forth. There are 4 frames for it facing up, down, left, and right so that on the key presses it faces the proper direction and moves accordingly. I also want this little guy to move behind objects. When this happens, i want the object that the little guy is behind to be partially transparent so that you can still see him and he doesnt just vanish.

In Fash CS3, suddenly, in certain files, I can't move an object left using arrow keys - but I can move the same object right, or if I hold down Shift + left arrow, it works correctly Also - I can move the object down with arrow keys, but not up Workaround - move an object on a different layer, then return to the problem object and it moves correctly. But this doesn't last long, the problem resurfaces.(I've tried rebooting; tried copying all the layers into a new file.

The clip has an instance name of red_mc. It doesn't work though? Also, if I want to have a yellow instance to work off "j" and "k" keys, do I just copy and paste the code above?

So, in the first line of code, it traces all keys within the object. Then in a similar loop, it triggers all the remove() functions of the instances, and then sets the instance to null. Strangely, as you can see in bold in the trace-results below, it tries pdf_hl twice? Does anybody have any clue why that is? The problem occurs in FireFox with Firebug/Flashbug and the Flash 10.2 debugger plugin.

I have a MC that can be moved around with the arrow keys. When a person presses the left key I want the object to face left and perform an animation for as long as the left key is pressed. When the left key is released I want the animation to go back to it's starting frame but the MC should still be facing left. I want the same thing for the other arrow keys, but the animations will be different for each direction (for example: walk right, walk left, walk away from you, walk towards you).

i load this data from an xml and need to place the images in stage according to details given.i convert the xml to an object so its convenient.
now i need to loop through this data (properties of the pic object) and load each image and set their properties.
how to loop through the properties as there can be any number of them. here you get 3 (clips0,texts1,clips2)..
Actionscript 3.0 looping through stage and DisplayObject items. I'm trying to convert to Actionscript 3.0 and I'm trying to find out how to loop through Stage objects as well as DisplayObject.
With AS 2.0 - I would only have to do:

This kind of works but the o[prop] always traces undefined and it's not showing any movieClips on the stage. I would like to be able to have the debug object function be able to take Stage and DisplayObject arguments like such:

when I try to iterate over this object's property names it only iterates the dynamically added properties.

Even though the object has all the properties equal to a value (ive checked this in the debugger) the only property name that will be traced is dynVar.How can I iterate over all the property names and not just the dynamically added ones?
I'm currently trying to load images and a few other nodes from an xml file.Once the xml file is loaded i determine the number of nodes in the file...create a loop which assigns each node into an array. My intentions are to create a image gallery which loads a dynamic amount of images. My problem now is i cannot figure out how to loop the loader component. Heres my code so far - (i'm thinking an object might work but not sure how to implement it)

I've attached a zip with a few custom classes and a .FLA. Ignore the custom classes. I'm getting repeated
"Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Environment_fla::MainTimeline/hitTest()".
I understand that this error means I'm asking it to reference something that's no longer there. How better to hitTest many objects in an array. My game involves creating a bunch of balls that will fall into buckets. I need to keep track of how many touched the buckets, how many fell off the screen, and remove each accordingly.

I'm trying to loop through each of the arrays stored in a Shared Object and place the individual array items inside rows of textfields. This isn't quite working - it fills all the text fields with the last data array only:

The issue I am running across is this: I encoded and embedded a movie clip to act as the background. There are other animations that can and will loop, as the movie resets itself. But there are some elements that I only want to run once and not repeat once the embedded movie loops (link introductions, where objects fly in and transition into the button). How can I set the one time animations to fire just once, while keeping the embedded animation on a loop?
