ActionScript 3.0 :: Grab The Transparency (or Alpha Value) Of Individual Pixels In An Embedded Or Loaded Video?
Jun 27, 2010
how to grab the transparency (or alpha value) of individual pixels in an embedded or loaded video? We tried copying over a frame of video into a bitmapdata object with transparency enabled. However, even though we can "see through" the video at certain spots (indicating alpha = 0 there), the alpha value comes back as 0xFF for every single pixel in the BitmapData object.Obviously alpha data is being stored inside the embedded video, but how can I actually get that value?

I have embedded a font type in my application. Its working fine inside a text area. Now i need to add 60% transparency to it. In fact I need multiple transparency levels. Like -
60 % transparency for TextARea
70% for WindowShade Header etc.
How do I add alpha values to it?

This has been bugging me for a little, and some of the examples I have tried to find throw me in loops and they have been wrong. [url]...
Or if you have ever played "Scorched Earth" you will see that when some part of the terrain is destroyed, it punches out the pixels perfectly when a shot is fired into the ground, to reveal the picture behind the main picture with the terrain.

I'm using AS2 with Flash CS4. How can I change the alpha of a ComboBox? I tried:
MyCombo._alpha = 25;
// and
MyCombo.alpha = 25;
But both have no effect on my ComboBox, it just appears to have the alpha set to 100.

I haven't worked with AS3 for a few months, and even when I did I never took the time to learn it to extensively ..
I'm creating an isometric map editor, the bitmap that I'm using to take the tiles from has a transparent background, but when I draw the tiles to the main bitmap it displays as white, so it messes up the overlapping (since they're isometric).. How can I make the background of it transparent?

I have a movieclip and I am loading on it an external swf. The mc is just a square box basically...it is set to 69% alpha/transparent in the "Color effect: style: alpha" settings.The problem is, when I load the swf now the swf is also transparent (seems like 69%)...I basically want the mc to be transparent, but the swfs that load w/in it should not be transparent.
example code:
mc.createEmptyMovieClip("newClip", this.getNextHighestDepth());
mc.newClip.loadMovie("some.swf");

I'm currently constructing a scrollbar as part of a website using as3 and png images. I've got loaders for each image inside of an array, and when loading on each image finishes, it's added as a child to a sprite on the stage. I've got a background image with no transparency, which loads fine. On top of that, I've got the actual slider, which loads the RGB data, and appears to be using the alpha as a 1-bit mask. So anywhere that I have partial transparency, it just shows up as black, where it should be showing the background underneath. I can't find any attribute that will change the way loaded images process alpha transparency.

I have a game and the user clicks on a button (a_btn), they are brought to frame 2 and they have to answer a question. If they get the question correct the alpha transparency of the a_btn is set to zero.
What I would like to be able to do is see if a number of buttons have zero alpha transparency then the user gets a complete message. This is what I have so far:
ActionScript Code:
if (c_btn.alpha=0 && h_btn.alpha=0){
infoComplete.text = "WELL DONE, GAME COMPLETE";
}

mc2 is a movie clip that is 50% alpha. How can I mask mc1 and keep the alpha transparency? That's about it.

I have two buttons without names and I'm trying to have the same exact code on each so that you can click the button and it will turn white (or look like it), and click it again and it will turn back to blue (alpha at 100).This is the code I'm using on each button:
Code:
on (release){
if (_alpha == 100){
_alpha = 1;
[code]...
Unfortunately it causes both buttons to change their alpha to 0, not just the one that the code is on.Could anyone tell me why this is and how to make it so that only the button clicked is the one that has the alpha change? The reason I'm doing it this way is that I am going to end up using over 600 buttons like this, and I would much rather be able to copy and paste them in rows instead of naming them (I've already spent upwards of 45 minutes naming them A1, A2, B1, B2 and changing the code to fit).

I have a movie clip that holds a button (latter a dynamic textfield -- (button is quicker for testing )). I have the movie clip alpha set at .65 as I want the background image to bleed through slightly. I put the button on the movieclip as I want it to be visible as the movieclip tweens on stage. My question is, can I target the buttons alpha when the button is a part of my movie clip or does the movie clip and the button have to be seperate?

I am working on a project for school using ActionScript 3. I have a matrix created with an animated movie clip. The matrix looks like a bunch of shapes changing size and color on the screen. I would like to have it so when I move my mouse moves over an individual shape in the matrix the alpha will change to be more transparent... like 0.5. I'm sure it would be a mouse move function, but I don't know how to write that part of the code.[code]...

I have embedded a flv video onto the stage. I then have loaded in an image which is transparent enough to see the video through it. The problem is I cant now access the video player to control it. Is there anyway to bring the embedded video on the stage above the loaded in image so I can actually click play on the control bar and play the video?

In Flash MX 2004 Pro. I have embedded the video in which needs to load several external FLV files. These are the problem: In my main file I have a sound object (music) and then load the video when I reduce the volume of the music of the main file to 0 that the louder the sound from FLV videos. The problem is that when the music died down to 0 to mute the sound with FLV videos to 0.How to separate audio from FLV videos from sound of music and how to separately control the volume loaded FLV file?This is the code that I use:
my_nc = new NetConnection();
my_nc.connect(null);
my_ns = new NetStream(my_nc);

how to create the proper Actionscript code that will control the Alpha Transparency of a MC I want as a preloader. I want the MC to start of at 100% alpha-transparency, and then decrease to 0% alpha-transparency when the whole Scene is loaded. Also, it should show the precentage of the Scene loaded. I have the code that I thought would work to control the alpha transparency of the mc and loading it. But, I get confused with the perloader code to incorporate into the alpha transparency code? Does this make sense; is it possible?In Leaman's Terms, As the scene loads, the mc goes from invisible to visible at completion of the scene load.
Here is the code:
Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
loading = _parent.getBytesLoaded();
total = _parent.getBytesTotal();
[code]....
Now, I have no idea if and where you'd include the poper code to control the mc's alpha transparency based on the percentage of the scene loaded? Can someome maybe rework the code to make this work. And use a working example, that way I see it working to fully understand the concept? The mc's instance name is "sm_logo". Where would I use the instance name in this code, or better yet the proper code alltogether?

When I publish as a PNG with Alpha there are black pixels that are rendered on the edge of the image near where the text is.If I remove the text from the image the black pixels do not render and the alpha looks as intended.

What I have setup right now is one movieClip that is being used to be drawn into a BitmapData object. That bitmapData object is being drawn on the enterFrame and I am needing to clear it so it doesnt have the previous enterFrames information still stored in it, then once it is clear draw the current information. Is there a simple way to clear or erase all the pixel information in the BitmapData object?
If there is a way to set the alpha of the pixels I would really like to know how that is done as well. However, I want to change the alpha level of the entire BitmapData object, not just a few pixels.

I have a project that works quite beautifully right now. I have come to my next task. Creating swfs that are loaded into another swf. This newly loaded swf needs to grab some variables from the main swf's document class or global variables class that I have created. I have set the class path as such that it can access the classes as needed. I did not set a document class.
Structure of loaded swf:
core.swf -> loadedBackground.swf -> interactive.swf
1.) Classes are all located in a folder titled classes
2.) cores.swf is outside the classes folder and is linked to document class within the classes folder: BuildCourse.as
3.) swfs folder contains the loadedBackground.swf and interactive.swf
4.) How can interactive.swf grab variables from the main.swf after it is compiled?

I have a FLV player using netstream. I am using metaData to grab the video duration and time. It will grab the total duration time, but I want it to countdown to zero, like iTunes. Basically, the time will play and the duration will countdown to zero at the end of the video. I thought that I could take (duration) - (time played) but it's not working.

I'd like to gain read only access to the following parameters of embedded Flash videos located on sites that I do not own through my own custom browser extension/add-on:
Time location of playback head (so I can display the current time in the browser extension via HTML5/JavaScript) Frames (so I can make capture them to an image file, save it and display image in browser extension) Original Dimensions in pixels (so I can display the original video dimensions via JS/HTML5 in browser extension)
Is this possible by using Javascript and HTML5 from a browser extension?
Would I have to use something like the SWFObject Javascript API [URL]

Im quite new to the ActionScript scene so apologies if thisquestion has already been answered elsewhere. I am creating a 2dshooting game, and Im loading multiple images of various enemiesfrom several jpg files, but when I display these on screen heimages have a big black square round them. Now when I amprogramming in another language such as OpenGL, if I wanted to getrid of this I would enable an alpha blending function and set 100%transparency for the black colour which I want to hide. So I loadthe jpeg file and store it in a BitmapData variable, and then Icopy this into a new BitmapData variable with transparency enabledand set to 0x00000000 (fully transparent black). I thought thiswould solve my problem butt no joy. My code is shown below:public class GraphicsLoader extends Sprite {
public var loader:Loader; // The bitmap loader
public var bmp1:Bitmap;
public function GraphicsLoader(path:String)

I have created an animation using illustrator files in AE CS3 and now want to convert this to flash so it will play on my website.The problem I am having (or rather my web designer) is getting the transparency in flash.
1. How should I export out of AE
2. Do I need to bring the video into Flash and export out of there to get the transparency?
3. Can this workflow even be done?
4. What is the best way for me to deliver the files to my web designer?
I have attached a movie file of the look I am going for. The birds were done in AE and I want them to move across my home page.

I am loading some bitmaps(transparent pngs) that I want to scale and remain smooth. We all know the problems with flash player 8+ anti-aliasing the images and not allowing the images to be forced to be smoothed. I want the png to retain its transparency. I use flash8 actionscript 2.
Here is the PHP Code:
var mclis:Object = new Object();
//An object that listens for a callback notification from the MovieClip Loader event handlers.
mclis.onLoadInit = function(target_mc:MovieClip) {
thisHeightInit = target_mc._height;
thisWidthInit = target_mc._width;
