I have a little app that can read and write content that is stored in XML files. As those files get updated and re-loaded quite often I have made the experience that the browser tends to use the old/cached XML-data. Can I somehow flag the URLLoader that I use to load the XML to always load the actual file instead of looking for cached versions?
View 4 RepliesI have tried various codes (probably wrongly) and read different posts and failed to achieve what I am after. So to cut going round in circles I have just made a simple test folder. There are 3 things I am trying to achieve so that latest files are loaded instead of browser cached versions.
Everything is linked properly in the TEST folder (apart from the code to get latest non cached version)

The three things I want to achieve-
In the TEST.zip folder start with index.html.
1- There you will see >Enter Button< and >portfolio.pdf< button. Nothing will change on index.html page but the portfolio pdf will be regularly updated. So I want the >portfolio.pdf< to fetch the latest pdf always. I assume the code will go on the >portfolir.pdf< button?
2- >Enter Button< will take us to master.html page which contains master.swf. Master.html is only a container but master.swf will be regularly updated and needs to always load the latest master.swf version.
3- Load image.swf button will load image.swf. I want the button to load the latest image.swf file always.
In my application, I make numerous calls to preload images to brower cache in the background using Loader instances and ignore the complete event. I don't store the results in the application, but rather want to store them in the browser cache. The images have long Expires header dates.
When I want to use a particular image(s), I again use a Loader instance and call the same url and listen for the complete event to load the file to an Image.
The problem is that when I re-request the url for the "cached" image, it is making an http request with response 200 status, which I presume means it is hitting the server. How do I make sure that a request for a cached image never hits the server from Flex? I am finding that any request to a url for a cached image (with a long expires header) is making another request to the server, or at least that is my interpretation of it in Firebug.
I have a button that loads guestbook.swf. As guestbook would be updated by me I would like the latest non cached version of guestbook.swf to load always. This is the code on the button currently. What would the code look like to load the latest version from the server? You know some random number/date time stamp thing? I tried using some Googled AS2 code off the web and the button stopped working.[code]

How can i load the URLRequest into an actual movieclip as i have done in AS2? As far as i know the load function only accepts one variable. ATM the external swf im loading is just going into thin air and i can't get anything to happen (i have the functions created to deal with the events btw).
Edit: Just fixed it by adding externalLoader_mc.addChild(myLoader);
[URL]when you resize the browser window you'll notice that the background pattern remains the same size but there's never a browser-scrollbar, besides that the movie in the center that is loaded stays centered when resizing while keeping it's window-dimension constant (it's actually 2 seperate movies forming the center window).

I'm currently working on a project that contains a lot of data, about 14.000 records. This means an xml file of about 3mb. Now my question is: Should I use the xml file to load all the data at once, or should I use a webservice, that provides the data when I need it? Keep in mind that I'm new to webservices. I have an application on Google App Engine that is made of Adobe Flex [and Java] components. The app has buttons to do tasks related to the app, including an "Open" button, which allows the user to open a .XML file, which then gets converted into data/content that's displayed in the app GUI. Then I press the "Run" button and it calculates stuff related to the inputted data/content. Also, my datastore is setup using JDO. I'm using only GAE. I'm NOT using GWT.
Based on the nature of the calculations (algorithms) I'm running, I would benefit from being able to open an XML file and then click the Run button on my app simultaneously on lets say 5 different versions of my app that I have uploaded to app engine. The 5 versions would be identical.Is there a way to create, say, an HTML page where the user would provide a link to the XML file (or open/load it from their disk) to be processed, then press "Go," where then the XML file is passed to all 5 versions of my app, then "automatically presses the Run button" on each?I can do this manually at the moment by going to each version-specific URL for my app, but it takes too long. Do you have any suggestions for how I would go about setting up such a script?
EDIT: Motivation for the problem: It's not XML processing time that I'm worried about. I currently have 2 algorithms that compute the number of particular types of "special points" that exist in an inputted XML file which contains large amounts of data. The difference between the two algorithms is that the 1st searches until it finds every special point. Then it stops. The 2nd searches and stops when it finds the first special point it comes across. Using multiple instances of this 2nd algorithm, one has the potential of finding all the points faster than the 1st algorithm.

For an upcoming project, we were looking to use Scaleform GFx, with the UDK. (Unreal Development Kit) Trouble is, Scaleform only supports as2. From what I've been told, as3 is supposed to be better in just about every way, so I really don't want to learn a language that?s most likely on the way out, if I have any other options.
Is there any converters out there, that can convert script from as3 to as2? Or another workaround possibility, since flash communicates with the UDK by means of just calling a function, could I create an as2 file that could dynamically load an as3 file?

View 3 RepliesI am working with a project that has many scenes. Each scene has a movie clip attached to it. The first scene is simple...just a couple of buttons and that is it. My worry is that when I add all of the videos that correspond with each button and publish the SWF will be a huge file. THE QUESTION: Does flash load ALL scenes of a movie or does it load the first scene and then load the other scenes when the user needs to view them?
My ultimate goal is to just have the first scene load and then when the user clicks on the buttons contained within that scene that only upon release does the corresponding scene load. Maybe I am doing this completely wrong and should look at doing it another way.

i'm building a website using flash. i have a external swf file that i want to import into my website. i thought this would be an easy task but for some reason when i load the movie, it flickers. my website (parent swf) was build using 1.0. The external form swf was build using 3.0. My approach:
1.create an empty movie clip called mcForm
2.go to the mc clip page i want to pull the external movie into
3. within my actions layer, I call the following function loadMovie("main.swf", mcForm);
If i write:
LoadMovieNum("main.swf",0);
then the my main.swf opens correctly but closes the parent swf file. I wan the main.swf file to be embeded within the parent file.
I'm trying to load an xml file from via http into my flash 8 file. Locally it works fine but when on the server it fails. I assume this has to do the flash security sandbox. How do I get around this. I own the servers so is there some sort of fix that I upload to allow the swf to receive the data?
