View 8 RepliesI'm trying to create a simple game where you can click on shapes in a toolbar and then drop them on the screen.There are three shapes, so I want the user to be able to select different shapes and such.I've written the code thus far like this:
Code:
stop();
var cursor:MovieClip;
var shape:MovieClip;
var circ:MovieClip;[code]..........
I'm getting a duplicate function error and incompatible override error for both the "rect" and "pent" functions, but the code works fine if I eliminate these two functions and just include the "circle" function (albeit the old circle disappears the instant I drop a new one).
I have attached a screen shot of my timeline and the errors that are happening, and my 2 pieces of actionscript.[code]
View 2 RepliesI am getting 2 errors on this.1023: Incompatible override. and... 1021: Duplicate function definition.
Code:
function myStageManager(event:Event):void {
trace("Do some stuff here...please??!! Silly damn thing...");
}
parent.stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, myStageManager);
how to fixed this ERROR in flash (1023: Incompatible override. AND 1021: Duplicate function definition)? I'm new to flash and action script 3 so i really dont know how to fix this. I'm creating a game which goes like this: If i press the ENTER KEY, the 'pamato' should go where the 'mouse2' is. It should follow the direction of mouse2. It must also have a friction and speed. The source of the two errors is in the function speed.

I have thumbnails in a portfolio slideshow movie clip. Each client featured in the movie clip has three thumbnails that when clicked are to show the corresponding image by going to the labeled frame for that image.I used the following code on the first client at frame 1:
//"ace_1" is the instance of the first thumbnail
ace_1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, ace1);
function ace1 (event:MouseEvent):void {[code].....
This gave me the "1023:Incompatible override" and "1021: Duplicate function definition" errors.I have 14 clients I have to get similar thumbnails working on.
I always have a question about override custom event. I am not sure why or what do to inside override function. I searched google but didn't get too many feedbacks. EDIT: My projects seem work fine even though I use my custom event without override. Anyone could explain it?

how to use that code in flash as3 coding and please give me some example or link, how to create duplicate movieclip in as3 ? how to play/pouse one particular sound in flash as3 ?
i am new to flash (yet i have been using it for years) by that i mean, i struggle with it a lot. i was hoping someone could help me with the "incompatible override" error message and the "duplicate function definition" message.
[Code]...
My problem is that when I click the letter movieclip it does create the duplicate as it should and it starts to drag the duplicate mc. However, when I release the clip it doesn't stop dragging? I realized that if I put onMouseUP event instead of onRelease it actually does stop dragging when I release the mouse. I would, however not like to use the onMouseUP event if possible.

If I have an object that calls
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, update);
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, update);
will that add 2 listeners?
I am having problems dupliating a movie clip. I can make a duplicate from an original but when I edit the duplicate it also modifies what is in the original. (I am just changing the text, thats the only difference between the 2) How come it effects both clips when I only change one?
View 6 RepliesI am triggering short sounds dynamically from the library for a game (Specifically Air for Android). When the user clicks a button the sound can take up to 600ms to actually play. I have set it for any silence before the actual sound by calling the sound like so:
[Code]...
All return the same results. I know there are threads here that talk about this but none have offered a real solution that I can find. Is there no way to cache the sound or store it in a buffer?
explain with examlple - what is the use of override function?
View 11 RepliesI have a Flex 3.2 application for which I am developing a custom style. Basically the first stylesheet gets applied first, and then my custom stylesheet. I am wondering how I can completely empty a value set in the first stylesheet with a value set in the second. The value has to be blank because if the horizontal-center value is set then any other positioning values are ignored.
Example
CSS1.css
.myButton {
[code].....
I wonder if you can use the override in atributtes. If yes, how could I do this?
View 3 Repliesif i add = null, (even in the class whose method i am overriding) i get that error: override protected function rollOverHandler(e:MouseEvent = null):void {
View 1 RepliesI can't seem to override flash native addEventListener with a custom addEventListener. My code:
Code:
package {
import flash.events.*;
public class myClass extends EventDispatcher {
[code]....
myShape=new MySquare(5)
inside MySquare constructor:
theArray.push(this)
[code].....
I can't seem to override a custom name space function, flash will not accept it. Here's my classes, very simple:
Code:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
public class Main extends Sprite {
public function Main() {
var t1:TestBase = new TestBase();
var t2:TestSubClass = new TestSubClass();
[Code] .....
I want to pass extra arguments to Shape class.
I think this can be done if I override a native Shape class.
how can I override ? Or How can I add a property to a shape?
I have two datagrids and I want to override the behavior of the tab-key event, so that it goes to the next datagrid, when the cursor reaches the end of the first datagrid columns.
View 2 RepliesI've read in the flex developer guide that you sometimes need to override one of the lifecycle methods like: commitProperties and updateDisplayList but I've written a few flex apps without ever needing to implement them.when do I need to override them?
View 2 RepliesI'm watching this video, which is pretty goodhows how to inherit from DownloadProgressBar to create a customer preloader for your flex app.TheDownloadProgressBar class has an overridable getter for the property 'preloader.' Isn't this poor design? What does a property called preloader have anything to do with a class for a DownloadProgressBar
View 1 RepliesI've written some code that uses setTextFormat to apply formatting to textFields. I need to change it now so if a textfield has a particular title it adds to the formatting (capitalizing it). There's several workarounds I could use but ideally I would like to either create an override for the setTextFormat or textFormat classes that checks the name of the textfield and if it's a particular name before applying all the other specified formatting capitalises it. I know how to override a setter such as (width or height) but can't find any info on overriding a specific property.
View 2 RepliesIn flex charting you can customize the box which displays datatip information, but is there any easy way of changing the little circle which is displayed next to the datatip box?
http:[url].....
I've found the method positionDataTips() in ChartBase which appears to do the drawing of the circle. I was going to subclass LineChart and override the method with my modified version of it. However, this method needs access to a lot of private instance variables which are only accessible to ChartBase.
Is there any way to call the override depending on what value a var has?[code]...
View 4 RepliesI have learned that there is a class called Function which is used as a blueprint for all as3 functions. Is there a way to override the call() function within the function class so that a trace can be made when any/every function is called?
View 2 RepliesIs it possible for a class to override it's own methods at runtime? I know this is possible to do in JavaScript by simply assigning a new function to the method name, but this doesn't appear to work in AS3.
Example: Let's say I have a DisplayObject with many accessors and methods. The user is allowed to load a dynamic library that overrides several of the functions and methods in the DisplayObject. As author of the DisplayObject, I have no idea what methods the user's library is going to override... only that they can. IS this possible?
The only thing I can come up with so far is to literally override every single method and accessor in the DisplayObject, then performing a check whenever they get called:

I have a movie that goes through a spiel and I want to be able to stop it then hit play and have it continue. Easy enough IF the movie just goes straight through. But what mine does is pauses at certain places to make way for some spoken word (to be added later) using setInterval.My problem is (seems to be) if I hit my stop button while it's doing it's 1.5 second pause, then the stop button gets ignored.
