View 2 RepliesI am dynamically creating a number of objects (movieclips) which all have a number of attributes.[code]and so on. i.e sub attributes. I don't think this is possible? Only sprite and movieclips can have dynamic attributes so unless atrbY is a movieclip (which it isn't, it's a string) it isn't allowed?Each object can have suboptions with further attributes associated with the chosen suboption.Later in the program I will manipulate, read and interact with the objects and they have text display behaviours dependent on the suboption chosen. That part (should) be straightforward! heh. One the object has the attributes attached in a usable format, accessing them should be simple.This will be for a store. i.e t-shirt1 has size small, price 10, size medium, price 12, size large, price 14. t-shirt2 has size medium, price 35, size large, price 40 and so on.[code]
This format of the XML can be adjusted if it would make the parsing easier.I am currently reading the XML in, stepping through, grabbing the individual parameter such as category and then adding it as an attribute of the object and it works fine. i.e. I end up with obj.category = 'catname'. However, on suboptions I am having a problem.Should I put all the suboptions in a multidimensional array and use nested loops to apply them to the object?I would still have the problem of objX.suboptionarray[Y].suboptionprice which isn't allowed? In the above XML case Y would be 0,1 and 2 giving 3 suboptions to objX and each suboptions would hold attributes such as pvid associated with that suboption.I could go down the horrible route, obj1.suboption1subptionprice ; obj1.suboption1suboptionpname; obj1.suboption1suboptionvalue; obj1.suboption2suboptionprice; obj1.suboption2suboptionpname and so on and so on for each suboption which could be five options (small,medium,large,x-large, xx-large) and which would "work" but would be bad programming and involve splicing names to get say, the "third" suboptions' price and pvid e.t.c
Going down the route of mutidimensional arrays sounds good except that on say 50 objects I would have stacks of arrays which I'm guessing isn't great in terms of resources?.Just to add, the number of suboptions varies between object, every object has a minimum of one suboption (default option) but can have as many as needed (unlikely to be more than 5 but should be scalable). i.e some t-shirts only come in medium whereas some have many sizes.I have a fair amount of leeway on the format of the XML which I generate from the database so the formatting of that could change to make the parsing easier.

View 11 RepliesI have a Flex 3.2 application for which I am developing a custom style. Basically the first stylesheet gets applied first, and then my custom stylesheet. I am wondering how I can completely empty a value set in the first stylesheet with a value set in the second. The value has to be blank because if the horizontal-center value is set then any other positioning values are ignored.

View 1 RepliesI've written some code that uses setTextFormat to apply formatting to textFields. I need to change it now so if a textfield has a particular title it adds to the formatting (capitalizing it). There's several workarounds I could use but ideally I would like to either create an override for the setTextFormat or textFormat classes that checks the name of the textfield and if it's a particular name before applying all the other specified formatting capitalises it. I know how to override a setter such as (width or height) but can't find any info on overriding a specific property.

I've found the method positionDataTips() in ChartBase which appears to do the drawing of the circle. I was going to subclass LineChart and override the method with my modified version of it. However, this method needs access to a lot of private instance variables which are only accessible to ChartBase.
Is there any way to call the override depending on what value a var has?[code]...

Example: Let's say I have a DisplayObject with many accessors and methods. The user is allowed to load a dynamic library that overrides several of the functions and methods in the DisplayObject. As author of the DisplayObject, I have no idea what methods the user's library is going to override... only that they can. IS this possible?

I have a movie that goes through a spiel and I want to be able to stop it then hit play and have it continue. Easy enough IF the movie just goes straight through. But what mine does is pauses at certain places to make way for some spoken word (to be added later) using setInterval.My problem is (seems to be) if I hit my stop button while it's doing it's 1.5 second pause, then the stop button gets ignored. I get "1020: Method marked override must override another method." for each thing I try to override. The SWF that uses the custom button will compile and work, but I don't know if the failure is creating some of the strange behavior I see. View 8 RepliesThe current implementation of the Flash Player ApplicationDomain with regards to override class definition seems like a giant security flaw to me.A parent SWF has complete control over what child SWF they want to load and add to its ApplicationDomain. It stands to reason that if the parent trust the child SWF enough to load the file, it should also trust the class definition defined by the child SWF and use those definitions.
In contrast, a child SWF has no control over where it is being loaded into, or if it want to be loaded into another SWF at all. Therefore, there is no reason for the child SWF to trust the class definitions defined by the parent SWF.I recommend changing the current implementation of the ApplicationDomain and allowing a child SWF to override any conflicting class definition in the parent's ApplicationDomain.
That is i have called one AA class in to stage. AA class is extends from BB class. BB class extends from CC class.CC class extends MovieClip. View 1 RepliesI trying here to avoid having to bind resources to all my components labels ( ie a button) and find a way to have this automated.
Problem: It corrupts the layout in design mode to bind directly in the mxml label="{resourceManager.getString('myResources', 'submit')}" and makes the design view useless. but when declaring bindings elsewhere, in actionScript or via a bind tag, it is counter productive and prone to many errors and miss.
Proposition: I would like to create my own button that automatically invoke resources to localize a button label. So the author puts "Submit" in the mxml description of my button, and when running it would take the value of the label ie "submit" and use resourceManager.getString('myResources', 'submit').
but I can't find the way to override the set label function, Is it possible if yes how? else how can I go about it?
Maybe I am missing an essential process here that would make the use of resources more elegant, as well as how to override such thing as a button's label.
I've got sIFR setup to replace a navigation menu (looks pretty slick). It's individually replacing the LIs and their internal links. I have an onRelease tag that throws properly, extracts the actual href link address, all good so far. I want to tie this into an AJAX page loader, with backwards-compatability (+SEO) for the individual pages being able to load themselves. I've tried return false like I would for standard links, no dice.
I'm assuming it doesn't work because it's onRelease, not onClick or something BEFORE it is already changing the page? onClick doesn't seem to be a valid sIFR function, documentation at [URL] onRollOver, onRollOut, and onRelease.
I have an HTTPRequest in mxml that has an mx:request defined inside it. I use the info in the mxml request 99% of the time (I thought it was 100% until I found this bug). So I need to send the HTTPRequest with one of the items in the request different. I tried using the send() method and sending my own object, much like you would if no request was defined in the mxml, but it doesn't seem to override it.
Any ideas how I can accomplish this without re-writing every call to send this httpRequest?
I'm using flash to draw objects, then I export them and use them from flex, and I'm a beginner in flash.
I'm trying to do the override a method from the MovieClip I created. The method I'm trying to override is stop() method. I didn't write a single line of code, my movie clip is created using entirely the flash interface. I figured out how to add actions to the movie clip when a frame is reached but I'm stucked now when I'm trying to override a MovieClip method.
I'm using a flex component that use a to load a .swf file.

I have a class which extends the Sprite object in as3. I need to be able to override the transform.matrix setter in this class but haven't been successful in doing so.
I've tried many things, along with creating my own separate class which extends the Transform class and then overrides its set matrix function, and set my transform = new CustomTransform(). Sadly this didn't work.
