ActionScript 3.0 :: Parent SWF To Load All Of The Static Data?
Jun 23, 2011
I've got an application parent.swf that is loading a bunch of child swfs into it. Ideally, I want the parent SWF to load all of the static data that's needed for all of the child SWFs to function, and them pass that typed data to the children. I've achieved this to a certain extent with something like:
I'm having bit of a headache with 1119 error and I can't figure out why.The problematic line is in red.
What I'm trying to do is:
1. Add Display Object "imagesGallery" to mainWin 2. Add MovieClip "imagesPreloader" to "imagesGallery" 3. Fire the "load" function from "imagesListLoader" which should fireup the function imagesLoaded in "imagesGallery"
In flex 3 I have a hierarchical data structure. I would like to display the content of it in a tree. My problem is that I have nodes which data calculated from children nodes. How to structure the hierarchy to make automatic changes to those parent nodes, if their children's data changed? For example:
Every node has a warning flag. If some of the children warning flag changed to true, then the parent warning flag should change automatically set to true. A node integer field is the sum of the children integer fields, and if any of the children changes, the parent integer field "calculates" the sum immediately. Is there an easy solution wit good structuring changes happen automatically, or I have to make some custom functions?
I have created a Flash Map that functions properly with a static XML file but when I try to load a dynamic XML generated my ColdFusion I get no results. The example can be found at: http:[url]...The one that does not work is at http:[url]....
This map should load the different states that are in the XML file but instead it does not load any of them. The two different XML files can be found at: http:[url]....and http:[url].....An interesting note: Firefox does not recognize the cfm file as a XML file but IE does. This may be based on the file extension.
The Action Script is exactly the same except that it references adifferent file. The Flash works when published for Flash Player 6 but when I try to publish for Player 8 even the static XML does not work.
I'm building my first AIR application after two years of building Flex applications with a SQL Server database, using ColdFusion CFCs and .NET as WebService interfaces.I want to create an AIR application with static data and I'm trying to figure out the best way of doing this, and how to do this. I have several related pieces of data.Should I store all the data in XML files and read it directly from there? Or should I use the built-in SQLite database? If I use the SQLite Database, is there anyway to have the data pre-populated with the application, or does it have to be built each time the application is loaded?
I've flash app and i've static data (like ~18.0KB) for it which aren't changed often so I was wondering how to better get them. The static data may be in XML or JSON. One of my ideas was to put the static data in .js file within a function which would return them in JSON list and the other one was to return them in XML (as I like to work with XML more in Flash) somehow. But I'm not sure if it possible to put XML stuff in JS file to return them when function is called.. Or is XML pages also cached in browser and I will get the same performance result which I would get with cached JS files?
I'm developing an application using Flas Builder / Flex for Adobe Air. This application will be processing a large set of static text (100 - 200 MB) using a variable set of processing instructions. The target platforms will be iOS, Android and Desktop. The data set can be either one large XML file or broken into a bunch of XML files about 3MB each. This will be decided at design time. From your experience would it be better to store the text in an Adode Air database or a set of XML files for best performance (including speed and battery life)? What other considerations should I take into account?
I'm doing a Flash Banner for an ADv campaing. Since the max swf file size allowed is very low, I'm trying to load external JPG images from the main server.Reading the crossdomain policies for Flash movies I see that:You cannot load variables or XML data into a Flash movie from another domain.
It's the same with static files as Jpg images?I'm testing the banner with various results: looking in Firebug, images are always loaded, but sometimes they appear, sometimes not, sometimes only the first time (it's a loop). There are no warnings however.
Loading the Banner with the same domain as the static images always works.I also tried to put a crossdomain.xml file on the domain that serves the static images, but problem seems to continue (maybe Flash cache that request somewhere..
[code]All clips are squared.Ok, on the PlayerPlane, there are little soldiers, which have hotkeys. The effect I'm trying to create is I want to position the GameStage so that the currently selected soldier appears in the center of the GameClicker clip. The GameStage is movable by the player (to scan other areas of the map)by holding the CTRL key, so it's easy to kinda lose track of where your players are.I have tried using localTo Global and globalToLocal techniques, but I think I'm lost on the actual math of getting the GameStage to move the correct distance so that the selected soldier is centered to the GameClicker.[code]
I'm currently writing a feature for an interactive periodic table which dynamically displays the name of the element and other properties when you hover over the element. I have thought of three ways to do this and I am wondering which is the best, memory-wise and speed-wise, for loading this information.
make a class with an array ( new Array("hydrogen", "helium", "lithium",...etc.)), instantiating it, then accessing the info with object.arr[i] make a class with a static array (otherwise, same as no.1), importing it, then accessing the info with class.arr[i] put the information into an external xml file and accessing it from there. The 3rd method seems excessive as you have to go through the hassle of adding event listeners for URLloader every time. Is there any difference between the 1st and 2nd way? (What is happening in terms of memory when you are importing a class - is the entire array added to memory?)
I have two swf, A.swf and B.swf: B.swf is a child of A.swf. Each swf has its DocumentClass. Now: I must pass 4 arrays from A.swf to the DocumentClass of B.swf. Which could be the best way? Is a listener in B.swf a good idea? I noticed there's the possibility to send data over the querystring but I would like to avoid this solution, if possible.
I have movie clip A and move clip B (in the root). Move clip A load data form external swf. The swf also load data from xml (the data is xml file name) till here work perfectly. What I want is, to pass the xml file name from the move clip A swf to movie clip B on button click. What Movie clip B do is load the xml file passed from the move clip A swf.
I have a problem with XML data loading into a datagrid when the containing swf is loaded into another swf.
I am able to get this to work in other scenarios, however in this scenario it seems to be related to the menu system I am using. The menu is populated from another external XML and when a button is clicked it calls a function to load the swf containing the datagrid into the parent swf. The URL for the swf to be loaded is accessed from the menu.xml. The result is an empty data grid.
I have tried adding a the datagrid component to the parent swf, however this dows not solve this issue.
I have an actionscript-instantiated component in a containment hierarchy; it extends ComboBox, but it's instantiated dynamically--you never know when you're going to need it. Somewhere up in its containment hierarchy, there's a thing which extends NavigatorContent which logically is the right place to put the valid values for said combo box. What's the canonical way for that child component to get a reference to that set of valid values?
im loading an external swf from my parent swf:loadMovie("external.swf", 4);now, on external.swf i have a dynamic textfiled, which should be updated from the PARENT swf:
this is on PARENT swf file: this.onRelease = function() { _level4.mytextfield.htmlText = "some text";
I know how to pass vars from php to flash and from flash to a "new" php page but here is my question.
I have a php page (page1.php) with some HTML and a php variable called $number. page1.php also has an embedded test.swf movie. While working with the test.swf movie, I want to send data back to the $number var on the page1.php without reloading the page1.php because then it would reload the test.swf movie.
I have been able to use javascript to change background colors on page1.php from within the test.swf movie but cannot figure out how to set a php variable from within the test.swf movie.
Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between <noscript> <noscript>and i keep getting undefined.I have tried saving the file as flash 8 and i am publish flash 8.
I have a parent that loads a child that contains a ScrollPane. The ScrollPane then loads another child (timeline) that has buttons. I would like to be able to click the button within the timeline and have it load the SWF in the ScrollPane child. Making it easier to visualize..
I am needing to load a movie from with in a movie into the origional movie and then unload the first loaded movie. hahaha ok. Say I have a movie called M1 and M1 has an animation sequence that needs to run befor it loads but because of positioning issues they need to be loaded seperatly into different loaders. My my plan is to load M1Animation into ldr on my time line, then play the animation and at the end do something like
[Code]....
My problem is this sounds great in my head but the code above doesn't work
We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.
I have an Access Database (doesn't need to be Access, I can phpAdmin or mysql, whatever will work) that has a list of names. I want the user to open a Flash form and have the names load up into seperate input boxes for each name. The user can then change the names, move them, whatever, and then save the record. I want it to just overwrite the record. I donlt want create a new record. I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I have tried to find some tutorials but nothing makes sense. Is ASP a good way to go? I have been struggling with this for a week now.
I currently have a Flash app that gets populated by parsing data from an external XML file. However, I need to get the XML data into a (JSP) session and can't neccesarily have an external XML file--any suggestions? Can I put the XML string into a hidden input field in a form on the HTML? Can Flash communicate with that HTML? Or are one of the below methods recommended:
i load in AS3 data into flash and mantain their data type? Like receiving an array and even with arrays in it and recognizing that is an array instead of a standard string.
And if this is possible is it more reliable then using XML?
I have a Flex tree with an ArrayCollection as data provider. The collection holds an array of CategoryVO objects. Each object can have another array of CategoryVO objects inside it's "child" attribute. This way the tree displays the data correctly. Now I want to get the parent of a specific item, e.g. tree.selectedItem. Using XML as data provider the item parent is avaiable thorugh the parent() method. But I can't convert my data to XML. How can I get an item's parent? Perphaps using the tree's dataDescriptor?
