View 2 RepliesI'm doing a Flash Banner for an ADv campaing. Since the max swf file size allowed is very low, I'm trying to load external JPG images from the main server.Reading the crossdomain policies for Flash movies I see that:You cannot load variables or XML data into a Flash movie from another domain.
It's the same with static files as Jpg images?I'm testing the banner with various results: looking in Firebug, images are always loaded, but sometimes they appear, sometimes not, sometimes only the first time (it's a loop). There are no warnings however.
Loading the Banner with the same domain as the static images always works.I also tried to put a crossdomain.xml file on the domain that serves the static images, but problem seems to continue (maybe Flash cache that request somewhere..
I wanted to know the method to do a dynamic loading of jpegs with click of a button with crossfade between the two jpegs

On release, I want this buttons to attach a "mcextra" into target x This mcextra moves on vertical position and shows inside a jpeg. How can I use the same code to all the buttons so I can attach the mcextra and load diferent jpeg images? I guess I`ll have to set a variable calling the jpeg, isn`t?
View 3 RepliesIt has been a while since I worked with flash and I am picking up AS 3.0 now. I have this project that should load jpegs from a server. I found that properties like x,y position etc are accesible through the loader object and that you can add a click event to it. Let's say I want to display a list of jpegs in thumbnail format, when the user clicks on it, it should show a full size version. I am not sure what the best approach is to achieve this as I assume that when using the same loader object to download all images the click event will reference the last downloaded image, correct? Should I create a seperate class for all of this and load all images by instantiating this class for each image or is there an easier approach?
View 2 RepliesAt work, I am trying to load JPGs externally using AS2 loadMovie() and loadClip() and the photos take too long to display. My boss does not want a preloader, so the photos just need to display on our website immediately.
Some of the photos are between 75K and 150K and photos do not display in order. They come in at different times. Because of this, my boss is claiming that I did not complete the pages although they are done and I am just loading the photos from outside the SWF.

I have tried it once wherein I hide the targetted movie clip and try to utilize the INIT functin to check for initialize. This works pretty good except that a little dynamic animation I need tends to act a little later than it should creating a bug if u proceed immediately.
View 4 RepliesBasically my code at the beginning of the movie queries the server for the file names of jpeg files that are to be loaded into sequential frames. The reason is that the user can enter file names into a database and the application plays them back without the user having to do any flash programming. Currently, my code is using a preloader in each frame along with some additional code to center the picture etc.
This is fine *but* I need all of the jpegs to load before the movie starts, not when the play head gets to each frame. I can't have any delay from one frame to the next. Delay in the beginning of the movie is ok. Can anyone help me with a method to dynamically load these jpegs completely before the movie starts playing?...once loaded they must be available for any frame to call immediately.

View 4 RepliesI am doing a video library. Each category has it's own XML files that feeds it data. Everything works great.However, when I Exported the Release Build. I noticed those XML files are gone(i.e. never got exported). I don't understand why. I need the video library to be dynamic so I can add or remove videos.Anyone know why those files are not exported along with the rest of the project. Like a setting in the preference that I need to fix?
View 1 RepliesIf you compile a Flash project into a .swf file and that project refers to another .swf file, is it linked statically or dynamically? That is, is the second .swf file contained physically in the first .swf file or does the first .swf file refer to the second at run-time?
View 1 RepliesI am importing a PSD file with a background layer, which I want to remain static throughout the movie and also several other layers which I am going to animate. Here's my problem...I cannot figure out how to get the background layer to remain visible throughout the movie once I create tweens for the other layers, without manually copying and pasting frame 1 to every other frame...yikes! There must be something very obvious I am not doing, yes? It probably goes without saying that I am a first time 'designer'.

I'm currently writing a feature for an interactive periodic table which dynamically displays the name of the element and other properties when you hover over the element. I have thought of three ways to do this and I am wondering which is the best, memory-wise and speed-wise, for loading this information.
make a class with an array ( new Array("hydrogen", "helium", "lithium",...etc.)), instantiating it, then accessing the info with object.arr[i] make a class with a static array (otherwise, same as no.1), importing it, then accessing the info with class.arr[i] put the information into an external xml file and accessing it from there. The 3rd method seems excessive as you have to go through the hassle of adding event listeners for URLloader every time. Is there any difference between the 1st and 2nd way? (What is happening in terms of memory when you are importing a class - is the entire array added to memory?)
how bad is this practice? I am having trouble getting to some stuff so i am taking the easy way out

2. You create a variable reference to the static class in a separate class.
3. Splice some items from the reference variable in the separate class.
4. Trace the static class and the items have been removed from that too.
5. Verify several times.
6. Get confused.

Ok, so I have a bit of a mess here (Which I'm probably not doing right anyway, which could be my problem...). I have a document class, I'll call it as Body.as, that creates an object from another class known as Headgear.as. There are also other objects created from other classes, or will be in the future. Now, amoung all this, Headgear.as and all of the other classes Body.as will use to make objects require the use of dragging functions (starting and stopping dragging). On stopping drags, position checks are then made to compare a particular hidden movieclip with the dragged MC.
To try and save myself some hassle (from making the same functions over and over to ensuring that when the objects are created I don't need to send a complete crapload of variables just to ensure the position checking function would work), I had the functions for the event listeners (Which are set-up on the draggable MCs in Headgear.as) just direct to functions in Body.as

When I use the following code inside a keyframe in a layer (Actions layer) it works fine. When I use it inside a custom class I get the following error: .../siteLoader.as, Line 19 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method load through a reference with static type Loader.

If I created a static method. say I decide to call on other methods within that static method. Do those methods I call on need to be static as well? what If I used some of the properties. Not to store data permanently, but just within that process. Do those properties need to be static ??

View 9 RepliesAlright, so I have a class that is linked (via the linkage panel) to a scrollbox class. I'll paste the class here:[code]Ignoring the formatting, the commented out functions are the ones causing the issue. Adobe says that it's a static class and I can't use non-static functions. The way I wanted to use it was:
1. Call the page button generating function above.
2. In the main code in my program is this line:scrollbox.setClickFunction(historyContent.generate Page);So when the buttons that are supposed to be generated are clicked, the scrollbox class can call the History pages generatePage function and pass it which page to show. (I did this because there was a lot of text and a limit on how much would display, so small chunks sounded logical).
3. In the onClick function (which I haven't finished yet because the rest wont work), when you click one of the buttons it calls the set function. Its that simple.
I have a question about loading external data. When I had all my actionscript export to frame one, it would slow down the preloader and not show up until it was far into the progress bar animation. So I moved everything to frame 2. The problem with that is now my menus which are populated from an xml file are not there when the site starts to play. How can I get my xml data to load on frame one, but leave the .as fils to load in frame 2?

First of all I dont really know if I posted this in the right section, because I don't really know what I'm looking for. I'm building a website that consists of some swf files and a lot of jpeg images. Now because this is a relatively big design the loading of the page can take some time and it doens't look good if you open it for the first time on a slower internet connection.
Now I do know how to build a pre-loader for a swf file, putting the pre-loader function on the first 2 frames of my movie and let it load from there. But because my site isn't all flash nor does it contain only one swf file I cant use this option.
Basicly what I'm looking for is a pre-loader that loads my jpeg images and my swf's before entering my website. Can this be done in flash?? (Or has anyone suggestions in what languages/scripts I should look for to accomplish this.)(Note that I must load multiple jpeg and swif files)
I have a swf embedded in a HTML page at 100% - so it resizes with the page. In this I am dynamically loading jpegs... however, if the swf is displaying at anything other than its original size the jpegs look clumsily pixelated... which would be understandable if they were bigger than their native size, but it also happens when theyre smaller....

I need to create animations fron a set of jpegs. I can layer selections in photoshop; create symbols in Flash, although When I open a multi-layer psd in FL, don't always get multi-layers in FL. More importantly, what graphic/symbol formats are required for the typical animation techniques (eg, different tweens, bones, puppet).
View 1 RepliesI'm creating a file with buttons and thumbnails that when clicked, opens up jpegs. I've written script that works successfully, opening the jpeg from the swf in Preview. This works for my desktop. However when using my laptop, the jpeg opens in Opera.
How do I write the code so that the jpegs open in Preview by default regardless of what computer one is using? Below is the script:
