ActionScript 2.0 :: Load Different Jpegs Using Variables?

May 27, 2003

I have the same button several times in a loaded swf. On release, I want this buttons to attach a "mcextra" into target x This mcextra moves on vertical position and shows inside a jpeg. How can I use the same code to all the buttons so I can attach the mcextra and load diferent jpeg images? I guess I`ll have to set a variable calling the jpeg, isn`t?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Load Jpegs From A Server Object Instances

Sep 28, 2010

It has been a while since I worked with flash and I am picking up AS 3.0 now. I have this project that should load jpegs from a server. I found that properties like x,y position etc are accesible through the loader object and that you can add a click event to it. Let's say I want to display a list of jpegs in thumbnail format, when the user clicks on it, it should show a full size version. I am not sure what the best approach is to achieve this as I assume that when using the same loader object to download all images the click event will reference the last downloaded image, correct? Should I create a seperate class for all of this and load all images by instantiating this class for each image or is there an easier approach?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Jpegs Load Too Slowly Through Loadclip() And LoadMovie()

Dec 8, 2011

At work, I am trying to load JPGs externally using AS2 loadMovie() and loadClip() and the photos take too long to display. My boss does not want a preloader, so the photos just need to display on our website immediately.

Some of the photos are between 75K and 150K and photos do not display in order. They come in at different times. Because of this, my boss is claiming that I did not complete the pages although they are done and I am just loading the photos from outside the SWF.

This works pretty good except that a little dynamic animation I need tends to act a little later than it should creating a bug if u proceed immediately.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamically Load Jpegs Completely Before The Movie Starts Playing?

Jun 9, 2003

Basically my code at the beginning of the movie queries the server for the file names of jpeg files that are to be loaded into sequential frames. The reason is that the user can enter file names into a database and the application plays them back without the user having to do any flash programming. Currently, my code is using a preloader in each frame along with some additional code to center the picture etc.

This is fine *but* I need all of the jpegs to load before the movie starts, not when the play head gets to each frame. I can't have any delay from one frame to the next. Delay in the beginning of the movie is ok. Can anyone help me with a method to dynamically load these jpegs completely before the movie starts playing?...once loaded they must be available for any frame to call immediately.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Defining Variables - Unique To Load SWFs Instead Of Declaring All The Variables

Mar 21, 2012

I have an empty SWF that's sole purpose is to call loadMovieNum and start the project. Each loaded movie has a few variables defined within them - unique to those loaded SWFs. Instead of declaring all the variables in each SWF can I declare all of them in one place, in the first frame of the empty loader it all starts from? I'm thinking I can then declare a variable which each loaded movie can increment as needed for me.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Load Data From Different Variables - The New Variables Come Back As Undefined?

Jun 15, 2010

I'm writing code that takes data from mysql that's processed by a PHP script. It's actually a bit bizarre, at least to me. Anyway, here's some basic AS3 code that's moving toward what I want to do:

var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
var urlRequest:URLRequest=new URLRequest("receive.php");
urlRequest.method=URLRequestMethod.GET;[code]....

For some reason, the statement "trace(evt.target.data);" produces a whole pile of garbled text before the actual stuff that it's supposed to show Because of problem #1, I've had to include a throwaway variable at the beginning, otherwise the first variable I try to pass into AS3 comes back as undefined. This causes errors when I run my flash movie in the IDE, but when I run it from the browser it doesn't seem to have any effect.But this is the strangest thing of all whenever I make any changes to the database (and subsequently try to load data from different variables), the new variables come back as undefined. For example, let's say that I add another entry to the database, and decide to load students 2, 3, and 4 instead of 1, 2, and 3. When I do that, any new data I've added comes back as undefined, even though when I view the PHP output in my browser, it looks just fine.

And now for the REALLY bizarre part: I'll copy that output, paste it into my PHP script as an echo statement, comment everything else out, and my flash movie runs fine. Even though the output from the PHP script is exactly the same, it gives me errors.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Preloading Swf's And Jpegs?

Jun 5, 2007

First of all I dont really know if I posted this in the right section, because I don't really know what I'm looking for. I'm building a website that consists of some swf files and a lot of jpeg images. Now because this is a relatively big design the loading of the page can take some time and it doens't look good if you open it for the first time on a slower internet connection.

Now I do know how to build a pre-loader for a swf file, putting the pre-loader function on the first 2 frames of my movie and let it load from there. But because my site isn't all flash nor does it contain only one swf file I cant use this option.

Basicly what I'm looking for is a pre-loader that loads my jpeg images and my swf's before entering my website. Can this be done in flash?? (Or has anyone suggestions in what languages/scripts I should look for to accomplish this.)(Note that I must load multiple jpeg and swif files)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Opening Jpegs With URLRequest?

Apr 10, 2011

I'm creating a file with buttons and thumbnails that when clicked, opens up jpegs. I've written script that works successfully, opening the jpeg from the swf in Preview. This works for my desktop. However when using my laptop, the jpeg opens in Opera.

How do I write the code so that the jpegs open in Preview by default regardless of what computer one is using? Below is the script:

domino_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, dominoClickFunction);
function dominoClickFunction(e:MouseEvent) {
var url:String = "domino.jpg";
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
navigateToURL(request);
}

ActionScript 2.0 :: LoadMovie() Not Loading JPEGs Into MC?

Apr 22, 2004

I've used loadMovie() often in the short time I've been using Flash. But never to load a JPEG dynamically. For a site interface, I have little thumbnails, which open to new browser windows. This is partly annoying though, as each one opens in it's own window, so the user would have to close a whole bunch of 'em after clicking all those thumbnails. To try to fix this, I read that JPEGs can be loaded at runtime onto the stage. I've already seen the photo gallery tut, but I only require a pop-up window with one image and no left/right buttons, etc. I've tried following the tutorial for the first few steps, making a shape the size I want the images to be, converting it to an MC, and naming the MC instance on the stage. Then, I created a new layer on frame 1 with

Code:

loadMovie("CS_00_1.jpg", _root.picture);

, but when testing it, I see nothing. I've tried a few different things. Before, the fla was in a separate folder, so I had to include "Screens/" in the name. Just in case that was the problem (I didn't get any errors in the Output), I moved it into the directory with the images. I tried absolute and relative addressing. I opened up the image in PS and resized it to the size of the symbol on the stage and made sure it wasn't Progressive (I read in a thread that Flash doesn't load Progressive JPEGs), but still nothing. I even tried loading a file that didn't exist to make sure it was looking in the right place the other times (as it didn't give me any error).

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Jpegs Into Movieclips?

How do I create some form of movieclip that reads the variable pic1 that is returned from PHP.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Resizing Imported Jpegs?

Jul 21, 2004

I am VERY new to actionscripting and have got myself into a bit of a muddle. I am trying to import a jpeg image into an empty movie clip and then resize the image. I can scale it, and position it but I can't resize it.Somebody suggested creating a movieclip in Flash first and giving it an instance name. Then use loadMovie to place the jpeg into that movieclip. This did work and allowed me to resize it but only the movieclip would be resized which in turn resized the image proportionally. I still couldn't specify exact dimensions of the image - only the movieclip.

Variables Do Not Load In Right Format

Apr 5, 2007

I am loading variables from a txt file. After loading in Flash, the format of the variables is weird.

My text file looks something like this:

var1=15&var2=10&var3=this is a test&var4=etc

It has been created in notepad.

When I load the variables with the command loadVariablesNum("variables.txt",0); there is a problem with var1 and var2. These are not considered as integers but as text and have the values "15" instead of 15 and "10" instead of 10.
