If you compile a Flash project into a .swf file and that project refers to another .swf file, is it linked statically or dynamically? That is, is the second .swf file contained physically in the first .swf file or does the first .swf file refer to the second at run-time?

I'm doing a Flash Banner for an ADv campaing. Since the max swf file size allowed is very low, I'm trying to load external JPG images from the main server.Reading the crossdomain policies for Flash movies I see that:You cannot load variables or XML data into a Flash movie from another domain.
It's the same with static files as Jpg images?I'm testing the banner with various results: looking in Firebug, images are always loaded, but sometimes they appear, sometimes not, sometimes only the first time (it's a loop). There are no warnings however.
Loading the Banner with the same domain as the static images always works.I also tried to put a crossdomain.xml file on the domain that serves the static images, but problem seems to continue (maybe Flash cache that request somewhere..
I want to find a relatively easy solution for deep dynamic linking within flash. There are plenty of tutorials out there, so please don't jump to the conclusion that I haven't done a search. What I am looking for is a tutorial that should theoretically be easy to follow for someone who is a non-coder.

Let's call them 1.swf, 2.swf, 3.swf.. 6.swf.So far, I suceeded in linking page 1 to page 2 using Loader, but there's a problem. Page 2, in the player, is OVER page 1. That mean's you can see page 1 where you should be seeing page 2 background.My question is, is there anyway in AS3 to unload or close page 1, right after page 2 is loaded?
View 1 RepliesI made several SWF files and I am trying to link them together but I am not sure how. Right now I have 3 applications, and a main page. All 4 SWFs were compiled from different FLA files. The main page has 3 buttons that links to all 3 of the SWF files. When I tried to do a URLRequest-URLLoader method to load the swf files, I realised I had to compile all the MovieClips of the 3 applications within the main.fla for them to actually work when you do URLLoader to load them(or it will throw a missing file error). I couldn't move all the graphical assets into main.fla as there are many replica names of different graphics from all 3 different application fla files.
Is there a way to still link up different SWF files without the need for all the graphics to be in one similar FLA file? or is there a way to remedy my situation without having to rename all the MovieClips?
I needed to break it in smaller pieces because it is a large file (over 300 mb) and every time I wanted to publish the entire project flash crashed.
Here is my test: I have two exe files that should link back and forth. Intro_YIM.exe, which has a button that links to Videos_FrontPage_YIM.exe Here is my code, which is in Intro (button name= nav_4).

Problem: The link seems to work, but there is a message that says save or run. When I click run, there is another message that says the file can't be open.
Questions:
1. Is there a better way to handle links using executable files using Flash CS5 and AS3?
2. If swfs were used, how can I have a main page displaying all other swfs as they are linked?
Files: Attached is a link to a file I made named "index". [URL] I would have liked to have included the following files but was limited due to "you-send-it" not uploading folders. Files not included: [but functioning and vital to the site as well as the question]

Project scope: Website is an online-art gallery. I was able to get a functioning xml rolling thumbnail bar as well as have it load images. [Due to certain circumstances I was forced to put the project on hold until now.] It consist of 17 buttons, on the index [home] page, which are to call upon an xml file to load the appropriate scrolling thumbnail bar and the images which it loads upon clicking.
Problem
When you open up the index file, go to the actions layer. You will see the script needed to load in the xml scrolling thumbnails as well as the associated images. The actionscript is fine and works in as much as when I save out an swf file the thumbnails dynamically load in and when I click on them the associated image loads to stage as well. [again if you download the index file you will not see this as not all the files were able to be uploaded due to "you-send-it" as mentioned.]

I have about 12 SWF files that I need to play as one swf file
Heres were i'm at right now. Opened new file. Imported each swf file into the library. in one layer I have 12 keyframes each with one of the swf files in it. I need the swf to play through then go to the next keyframe and play that movie and so on.
I guess the question is I'm not sure where to put the actions (on each of the keyframes or in the swf file or both) and I'm not sure what actions need to be used.

I noticed those XML files are gone(i.e. never got exported). I don't understand why. Unless I'm mistaken, everything in this website is contained within one HTML document.When you click on any of the various buttons in the portfolio menu, they simply load up and appear inside the same HTML document.
How on earth do you do this without clicking on any of the various buttons and having them linked to another page??
I am importing a PSD file with a background layer, which I want to remain static throughout the movie and also several other layers which I am going to animate. Here's my problem...I cannot figure out how to get the background layer to remain visible throughout the movie once I create tweens for the other layers, without manually copying and pasting frame 1 to every other frame...yikes! I have a Flex app I built. It uses the BrowserManager class to listen for changes in the # part of the URL. When a change is made to the hash my application updates accordingly so you can link directly to a state of the application. Also inside my programming when a user clicks something, all I do is use the BrowserManager to update the # and then my listener will apply the correct changes once its finished. I believe this is the best practice way to doing this in Flex.
I have some issues though. When using the Back button in FF or IE, it gets "stuck". for example if the hash is like #state4 clicking the back button will take you to #state3 then #state2 but sometimes get stuck where you can be on #state3 click the back button, see it flicker to #state2 real quick then change back to #state3 preventing you from going back any further in your history.

I do have a mc with a dynamic text box in it, this dynamic text box is linked to an texternal text file where I have the text I wanted to be shown in my mc when I publish the movie.
When you see the text in the movie I want to be able to use part of the text as a button to redirect the timeline to another scene and exact frame. For the moment I try everything I could but no luck.

Yesterday I spotted what seemed to be a minor issue with having a linked image in a dynamic textField. Basically, this doesn't work as expected:

You get the hand cursor when you mouse over the image, but clicking does nothing, unless you inadvertantly click an invisible 1px border around the image.
I've tried:

But absolutely nothing works. All of the data being loaded is from a database, and I've got a couple of lengthy methods in mind that I could use to dynamically attach movieclips with link references, but it involves edits to MySQL, the XML output and a couple of PHP files, as well as the AS.
After a creating a new test file from scratch, it seems that the real culprit is when you embed a font into the textfield. I initially tested a new textfield with absolutely no formatting and the linked image worked perfectly. As soon as I added a font to the library and embedded that into my textfield, the link stopped working.
I have a dynamic textfield which i fill with HTML-text from an XML-file. This exceeds one page, and I would like to print it on several pages. How can I do this, when I use printjob.start it only prints one page...? And is it possible to track a word that is clicked? (to use as a link to other pages..)
View 2 RepliesI have created a Flash Map that functions properly with a static XML file but when I try to load a dynamic XML generated my ColdFusion I get no results. The example can be found at: http:[url]...The one that does not work is at http:[url]....
This map should load the different states that are in the XML file but instead it does not load any of them. The two different XML files can be found at: http:[url]....and http:[url].....An interesting note: Firefox does not recognize the cfm file as a XML file but IE does. This may be based on the file extension.
The Action Script is exactly the same except that it references adifferent file. The Flash works when published for Flash Player 6 but when I try to publish for Player 8 even the
static XML does not work.
