Data Integration :: Static Vs. Dynamic XML?

I have created a Flash Map that functions properly with a static XML file but when I try to load a dynamic XML generated my ColdFusion I get no results. The example can be found at: http:[url]...The one that does not work is at http:[url]....

This map should load the different states that are in the XML file but instead it does not load any of them. The two different XML files can be found at: http:[url]....and http:[url].....An interesting note: Firefox does not recognize the cfm file as a XML file but IE does. This may be based on the file extension.

The Action Script is exactly the same except that it references adifferent file. The Flash works when published for Flash Player 6 but when I try to publish for Player 8 even the
static XML does not work.

I got a music portfolio web site running PHP, MySQL and Flash. There's a page showing all the artists my client worked for and when you click on a song title, this title is passed as a variable to a PHP page then to a Flash page. The Flash page contains an actionscript music player which then looks for the right audio file in the database and plays the song. Everything works great except for the dynamic text field which displays the song title. If the song title contains an apostrophe or a single quote, the Flash dynamic text field then shows the apostrophe.[code]

I have a scroll pane that is linked to a movie clip with a dynamic text field. The scroll pane expands automatically based on the length of the dynamic text field. I would also like to have the dynamic text field expand automatically to fit the dynamic content from an external .txt file if there is too much text to fit in the default text field length.

Here is the code I am using to get the .txt files:

Does anyone know why the first part of my CSS formatted is the only part that shows? I know the rest of my text is formatted correctly because I can erase the first part, and only show the other portion. I just want to be able to load a decent size set of text into a text block I am making with a scrollbar.

Shouldn't it be possible to pass in a dynamic url path for this property? I am successfully loading a variable using loadVars and then attempting to use that variable to populate the xmlConnector.URL property but it does not seem to work. Do you have to hardcode a url for this property?

I would like to be able to dynamically populate a dynamictext field (assuming that's the best component to use) with anarray of data from PHP.I have attached my PHP code and my Flash Code.The PHP code is working fine and generating the array.The first part of the AS code is working as I can see thepop-up window with the PHP array in it. However, I can't figure outhow to get the array to display in the dynamic text box.I have created a dynamic text box in flash with nothing inthe 'instance name' box and 'events' in the var box.

I need the use of the chars ™ and � but only the latter appears. I'm using a loadVars object and an external .txt file which is loading with success, but where I need the phrase "Soo Bahk Do™ Moo Duk Kwan�," I only get "Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan�" Why doesn't "™" load?

Edit: I'd like to add that I have chosen to embed all uppercase,lowercase, and punctuation marks, and I additionally added ™ and � to ensure they'd appear, but, the trademark logo still does not appear.

I've got a dynamic text area pulling text from a MySQL database via AMFPHP.The text includes special characters such as accents,umlauts, etc (multi-language site platform). Most of them work fine, and ALL of them work fine when I'm on a Mac client. However, if I use a Windows client machine in either Firefox or IE6, there are a couple characters that for whatever reason just don't seem to show up-instead I get the [] box character.

The only characters I've found that seem to be affected like this are European quote characters like ' " and " (hex characters 146, 147, 148). I'm using the familiar ampersand-pound-number-semicolon escape sequence for them. And like I said, they all display fine on Mac/Firefox and Mac/Safari. Why are all my other special characters (umlauts, accents, etc) working fine and just these things failing? It's also worth noting that they look fine if I dump them out to a PHP file and pull it up in a browser...

i'm trying to load a full html page with layout table cells intact and full function (like an i frame)i can load text and image but i can seem to get the entire page flash just lods it how it wants.does anyone have an idea? Can this be done? i've tried it with a dynamic text field, componets, and i can get falsh to see table / cell layouts at all.[code]is how i load my content. but making several dynamic text fields to load one page of content is working my nerves.URL...

I'm trying to get data from a webservice placed on an other server, parse the data and display it in a datagrid.I'm using the WebServiceConnector component.I placed a crossdomain.xml on the remote server, allowing my domain

Everything works fine within Flash.(Ctrl+Enter)Data is recovered, parsed and diplayed propoerly.But when i try somewhere else,it doesn't work at all.(local swf, local html, nor in http on mydomain)I placed dynamic txt fields to trace the status of the webserviceconnector, throught a listener on "status" event.I have of course an other listener for "result" event, which launches parsing and display.

Within Flash, i see the "status" changing from
"StatusChange" {callsInProgress:1}
to
"StatusChange" {callsInProgress:0}
and then, the "result" event is triggered.[code]......

I have a video player that is currently using XML for its video library which is all fine and dandy. Now I have some developers working on a CMS type page in PHP that is going to hopefully pass some sort of information to my player that will let it know where the video is stored on our server. Is there a way to do this without using FMS? If so does anyone have ideas where I can find the information for it.

I'd like to create one empty Flash movie that is essentially a placeholder for externally loaded content I can change through XML. This content would just be able to randomly load 1 of 3 photos, with a button linking to a website within each of the photos on page load. If the user refreshes the page, a new photo with it's link would appear, but I understand since it's random,having 3 images the same image is likely to reappear, but I can always add additional photos and links.

Does anyone know of a tutorial that might lead me on the correct path to create this? I've found some tuts, but they've been different than my need.

We want to be able to upload over 100+ files (if needed) to a server along with desc + keywords. I see that Flash 8 has the neccessary tools to handle file uploading, but my question is, can we have it act as a Stand alone FTP program so that we can utilize the fastest user upload, or will we be confined to the settings in the server INI settings.IE MAX_UPLOAD_TIME,MAX_FILESIZE, etc. If possible we want to avoid using the HTTP upload as it is noticeably slower. So if we can use flash to utilize user BW to upload, then that would be ideal.

Im trying to use dynamic SQL tables on my PHP server so I need to pass the table name to the PHP script.� I don't understand why the Data Management system that sets up CRUD won't allow this extra parameter.� It says it can only have one input: item. I can get all records, but when I try to create, update, or delete I get an error.

Or is there another way I can pass the tablename variable to the php file before I call any functions?

Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.

The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between

I'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string.
