i have a preloader, that i wanted to have it shown for each time a menu section is pressed. These sections are external movie clips... is there a way of writing an universal code, so when the button is pressed, the preloader would fire first?

Jamie Fobert Architects (projects) I am useing transitions between the projects and am loading details/text and images externally through flashvars, php and a mySQL database. Within my transitions I have a a preloader on the forst 2 frames the code is as follows (taken from a Voetsjoeba tutorial):

This works pretty well if the content is within the .swf, but when it is loaded externally it doesnt preload it at all. Does anyone know how I can adapt/improve this preloader? or somehow ensure that all the content being loaded externally is loaded before the transition plays?

View 2 RepliesI've run into quite a problem with a project I've been working on for a University.We're loading 4 different pieces of .XML data into flash and creating a dynamic slideshow from it. [URL]After the XML data is loaded into it goes through and counts how many "slides" there are, picks a random rumber from that and displays that "slide". When NEXT is clicked it plays the next "slide" in incremental order unless it's at the last slide.... then it goes to the first.
The problem I've run into is that the animation tweens the iamge before it is loaded into it's container MC. I need a way to load the images BEFORE that animation fires. Here's where I'm loading the XML (from a variable set in HTML):

I have created a prelaoder for my whole .swf file but as this .swf is a gallery I would like to load in pictures when you click on certain pictures is there anyway to do this i.e if you load picture01.jpg into movie01 how do you use a preloader to preload this???

I am dynamically importing the swf files from an external asset folder into a blank movHolder movie clip on the stage of my main movie. I have this working fine. I am having a hard time knowing where to place the preload script (in the asset swf or in the movHolder clip), and whether or not my script is accurate for this procedure.
Inside of the movieHolder clip, I placed the preload script script on frame 1:

On frame 15 I have a looping action that tells flash to gotoAndPlay(5); as it loads the asset to frame 100.
On frame 20 I have inserted the label "start".
Obviously my approach is flawed and does not control the dynamically loaded asset. I am assuming that the asset swf if loading on frame 1 and ignoring my code.
I have a small juke box created. As you click buttons, it dynamically loadeds and steams mp3's sitting on the server. The question is: There is some lag time from when you click and enough information is downloaded for the user to actually hear anything.Just wondering if I could throw a preloader on that would just let the user know what is going on until the mp3 actually starts playing.I read the huge tutorial on Flash Kit talking about sound, but in this author's words it reads, "The preloader described here will work for event and streaming MP3's. However, it's not logical to build a preloader for a streaming sound, as it will start playing before the preloader reaches 100 percent."

I have split the 20min presentation into a series of swfs that load into a main swf that holds the "container" movie clip. I originally added a timeline based preloader inside each swf but apparently the client wants the whole thing to be seamless (no "loading..." screens). I am completely at a loss as to how to basically preload the next swf while the current one is playing.

I am loading external text file in flash and i am trying to trace progress so i could use it to show user how far loading is completed.
And i have i problem as i only get my trace after my text is completly loaded and shown in flash. only than i see progress in my trace window. Do you have any idea why? I am using one frame on one layer i have text field that i need for my text and another layer with code

I want a mask to go over some words in relation to the percentage of the file loaded. Below it I want text that says 1%, 2%, 3%, etc. (also in relation to the percentage loaded). But when I test it and click "simulate download," the screen stays white for about 10 seconds then goes to frame 2 where my content starts.?! I get no errors, either. For an example I am trying to build a script where a user can change the color of a roof of a house. So If I take a picture how do I trace it or draw it where I can then make copies of it in different colors for people to pick a color and then make an action where the roof will change to that selected color.
I have a function that loads and XML file. Which populates a scrollbar with images. I have three sections in my application Education, Hospital and Retail. The images being loaded differ in these 3 sections only by there placement. So for example, in education the image order is 1, 2, 3. For Hospital the image order needs to be 3,1,2 and of course Retail is say is 2,3,1. I might add that more then 20 images are being loaded and it is only the first 3 that need shuffled.
I want to use the same XML file for each section. Rather than duplicated the code 3 times and write 3 different XML files, can I move the images to the correct position say using a if statement like if(education == true); then image order = this; or if(hospital == true); then image order = this. Does that make sense? Is that even doable?

I have a menu with 4 buttons, once clicked each button sends you to its corresponding section (frame label). Each section has a different loading animation. Once in a section I would like to go to another but before this that section's specific transition animation must play. Now I've looked around and all I can find is how to do this with a universal transition animation.

View 8 RepliesI am going to redesign a website and for that website I want there to be a news section on the homepage. The news section should be built in Flash with images representing news headlines animating on a loop however a user should be able to click one of these images and then within the homepage a Flash pop up will appear with the news article. This is similar to sites that have an image gallery with thumbnails of images but when an thumbnail is clicked then the full size image loads within the same webpage. I want a similar effect but in my case, when a full size image is clicked, a text based news article loads.

I'm currently building a very basic flash application and i'm having trouble with one section of it. In this section I have an input box where the user enters their name and clicks an 'Enter' button. Clicking this button will take the user to the next section where I want their name to appear in a dynamic text box.The application works as far as getting to the next section but it doesn't display any input text in the output text box in the next section.
