I am totally clueless at Action Script. I have no idea how to implement it!
I have created a basic flash ad and I need to insert an action script so when a user clicks on the ad, it opens a new window to an external link.
What on earth do I need to do? I'm not having any luck with tutorials, I cant find a command sequence anywhere.
Do I need to make a Symbol or something?
link opens up a new window rather that the same window?

After the photo window has opened, if the user clicks another button the photo browser will update but its no longer in front. I have a datagrid with different types of columns, like I have checkboxes, combo boxes and text Inputs as the column types. Now I want one of the column type to a link, with the label "view". All the rows in that column are link with the same label "View" and on clicking it, I want a Pop up window to be opened?

I didn't know how to bring a link in the datagrid. So used the Text control to display the "View" label. Now If I click this item, "View" in the datagrid, I want the Pop up function, i.e.,defectCommentsPopUp() to be called.
ACTUALLY i just thought of another one so now i have two. sorry. hope you don't mind. i get sidetracked rather easily. before i start, a quick nota bene. i'm a complete newcomer to flash so my questions are very simpleminded. not much of a challenge i'm afraid.
1. can i put a link in my movie that will close the window?
2. can i put a link in my movie that will open a new window of a specific size, and without the menu-buttons of explorer?
i have a flash site that links to PDF's with the navigateToURL function which works etc But now i would like Link to rather open up a download window instead of just a new browser window?

I'm trying to make a popup alert modal window thing with an external class. I have a simple swf set up with just some random sample text, a rectangle, and a button. What I want to happen is for the "alert" class to initialize upon startup of the swf and then when I click the button (instance: btn), the alert will show up. If I get rid of all AS in the swf and set alert as the document class, it shows up just fine, so I think it should be working, but for some reason I get this instead when I try the button function:

Im new at building flash sites, im trying to make the "splashscreen12.fla" link to the "moreinfo12.fla" inside the same window when you click the first button, for some reason it keeps opening in a new window if i use _blank _parent _self _top nothing works..

If i OnMouseOver a few movieclips at the time the function cant calculate every movieclip alone... Maybe i have to put some array.. ??? i dont know..
On OnMouseOver the movieclips move i random direction and when i passes 15 seconds they return to their original place..
I have the snow effect falling in the project. But during the falling of the snow I'm loading an external file into the screen. (animation from another prog in swf format) But the problem is that the new swf file is blocking the snow. How can I script the snow so that it will fall on top of the loaded file.[URL].

I have a rewindButton and a playButton and both have up, over, down, hit assigned but when I run the video and hover over the buttons the mouse changes to a text cursor. No colors change and the buttons aren't clickable.I followed the Flash Video Basics 1 and 2. Also, when I take the // off of the ns play bnc.flv line, the audio echos. I have no idea what's going on.

I'm making a canadian tax calculator - and it all works BUT I need it to check the fields and if they're blank, make it process it as zero. ALSO, I've now discovered I need to make the fields display as money would. Is it possible to make the fields only show two decimal points, put a comma in (like --> 2,546.00) and have it everytime show two zeros (sometimes it displays as this --> 26.0 instead of 26.00. At the *least* I need it to show 26.0 >> like this ...26.00

I work with 3d animation. Im have a problem with a personal website Im doing, I have a link in a button inside a flash movie to open a new window and play a youtube movie:

This works fine in Firefox but in IE it doesnt work, I then change the /v/ in the youtube link with /p.swf?video_id= and now I have the window open showing the small youtube thumbnail of my video but once a click play, nothing happens, I check it and is not loading anything.

I have l a flash file in my pages that links to other pages within my web site but when clicked they automatically open in another window. How can I link them without opening a new window as would happen with a normal web page link?

I'm primarily an HTML/CSS girl. I'm pretty new to Flash, and until recently have only worked from the timeline without using any action script other than stop(); and simple goto commands like gotoAndPlay(49);
This week, I needed a nav button to take the user into the site from the Flash intro; it's live at [URL]
Flash CS4, Action Script 3. Since I don't write Action Script - yet - and needed the link in a hurry, I Googled for the code. As you can see, it works fine, but the site opens in a new window, and I don't want it to do that, I want it in the same window.
The code is as follows:

In case this is browser-specific: I've only tested this in the latest versions of Firefox and Safari for Mac, OS X 10.6.2 (Snowleopard). It's the same in both browsers.
