I am getting troble of receiving displayObject. Here, I have three class : Control.as,Middle.as and OutPut.as here Control.as call Middle.as to put string Middle.as call OutPut.as to show string textField Out.as is extends of Sprite and shows TextField with value. i attached a custom contextmenu to a sprite. there is another sprite lying "on top" of this first one. so if i try to invoke the custom context menu of the first one, it does not show when the cursor is over the second one.
i already set the properties "mouseEnabled" and "mouseChildren" of the second one to "false"
im building this interface in FLASH CS5, where i want to place a digital clock, i created a MovieClip InstanceName "RELOJ" in that MovieClip i have two layers, one with two Text Fields that are going to display Time and the other the Date, and on the other layer is the actionscript (AS3) of the whole clock and date.ok, now i place that movieclip on my Main TimeLine, i play the swf but i dont see the clock working.I have tried placing an Actions layer on my main timeline and writing "RELOJ.play()" but nothing... I have an empty movie clip(say A) on a layer and then I have masked it with a display object(say a rectangle). Now I have an movie clip(say B) containing a input text field and I am adding this movie clip(B) dynamically in movie Clip(A).
When I compile it, the input text field is taking input for sure, cz I have applied some traces on change event of that field. But the characters inside the field are not showing up.
What's happening in this simple piece of AS3 code? Why does my object change from TextField to the more generic DisplayObject?

I would like to be able to quickly check if a given DisplayObject is a descendant (not in the inheritance sense - ie. child, grandchild, great-grandchild, great-great-grandchild, etc.) of another DisplayObject. There doesn't seem to be a native way to do this and I can only think of two ways to achieve it: Create the mother of all nested loops. Seems a bit, I dunno, wrong? Dispatch a bubbling event at the 'child' and check if the potential 'parent' receives it.

I am receiving "Definition fl.controls:TextInput could not be found".I read that you need to have this in the library (I dragged a text field as classic text, input text on stage).
I am loading in xml data into a document class, the text field is not displaying it, the data traces out fine so there is no problem with the xml, also I have just tried putting a standard string as it's value and it still isn't showing.

I have a setup a PageHolder class (based on MovieCLip) that displays a doted area with a (page) number in the middle.
Now attempting to populate my LayoutPane, I create new instances of of PageHolder whose constructor is tasked to set the text value of its only Texfield to the value specified in the new PageHolder parameter.
The problem here is that only the character present in the Library Object will display at run time.
For example, I have setup my PageHolder object with a text field containing the number "0". Now at run time, every instance of PageHolder is blank except fro the one that I passed a "0" as part of the init parameter (10,20,30,...) and on those pages, only the "0" is showing. If I change the original object to display a "1" instead, then every "1" of the page number that contains a "1" show ups.
Can somebody shed some light on this?

I have a project where I need to show a TextField with a monetary ammount

This will show the 99 cents as subscript. How do I show this as superscript?
It's important that I display this in the same textfield so I don't have to worry about 2,3, or 4 digit dollar values or values with no cents. The alignment will be a lot of work. I googled the GG Superscript fonts but because this is dealing with localization, I need to use device fonts rather thatn embedded. Also size is priority so embedding fonts is something that is not really an option.
I tried to search but 99% of the posts I saw were referring to manually created dynamic text boxes instead of.. algorythmically generated text for lack of better phrasing.
I'm trying to make an AS3 .swf that would display a small array of letters that have been created with TextField's, and not with dynamic text's being dragged onto the stage since there's going to be more than 100 of them. I've tried setting the textfield's .embedded to true, changing the fonts, making sure the text and backgrounds are different colors.. nothing.
In my .fla I have nothing for the document class under properties. In frame 1 there is one keyframe with three lines of code below and I've tried it with stop() and without. The class file is in the same folder and is MyArray.as This should be really easy but it's driving me insane.

If the user navigates away from the screen its on, and come back, the text field cant take input anymore. Flash says the field is there. That its a input field. The pointer changes alrigt, but i cant type into it? and the bug fixing text i put into it disappears. When navigating to another page i kill the movieclip its in with:

I have a flash-movie on my webpage, which makes a post when its done playing. I want to catch that post and update a session.
I get the following "post-error" when the movie ends.

What i want is the method setMovieSeen to be called whenever i recieve the post from the flash.
I have a very simple php script that I'm using to check and set a cookie. I'm running this script from a Flash file, but it's not working properly. If I enter the direct URL to the php file in my browser, it works perfectly. However, if I access it through Flash it doesn't seem to recognise that the cookie has been set.

I am trying to get an xml to load from an external site using a PHP proxy. I have been able to achieve this with the url of the xml hard coded in the PHP though I now wish to get the flash to send the url as a variable to the PHP though I am unsure how to do this.

I'm trying to make a barebones, simple flash client communicate ANYTHING to a server over a regular socket. I setup the listeners:

socket.addEventListener (DataEvent.DATA, onSocketData);

And then I connect. On the server side I have a simple policy server on port 843.And then the real socket server that the flash client is connecting to.The flash client connects to the policy server and gets the policy. The flash client then connects to the actual socket server. I know this because I can both see it when snooping the network traffic and the fact that the Event.CONNECT fires off. From snooping the network traffic I can see the flash client send data TO the server when it:

From the server app I can see the data the client sent. The server then returns a little data. I can see this data going from the server to the client in the network traffic snooper. However, the client NEVER sees the data. It never fires off DataEvent.DATA or ProgressEvent.PROGRESS or ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA. There are no errors and the connection remains open for as long as I want it... but the flash client never seems to see the data... no matter how much I send.
Over and over I read online that the data sent to the flash socket needs to be terminated with a � zero byte. I can verify it is in the network traffic snoop.if I try to read any data from the flash app via something like readUTFBytes it always returns nothing found.

I'm developing a web application with Flash CS5 and AS3.0. The problem I'm having is this:At a certain state, the application goes to a frame with a "loading..." animation that loops continuously until the next state is reached. The animation is inside a MovieClip that lives on this frame on the stage (I'm not creating or animating it dynamically). While in this state, the app is waiting to receive a large xml file from an XmlSocket connection. The file takes a few seconds (literally - not milliseconds) to be received fully by the Flash player, and during this time the loading animation stops. I believe the socket is blocking the animation thread until it's done receiving the entire file.Does anyone know of a workaround that would allow the animation to keep playing while the socket is receiving? I've seen pseudo-threading hacks, but those always deal with computations or other activities that can be accomplished by calling a call-back function multiple times. Since I'm just listening on an open socket, there's no callback I could pass to a pseudo-thread.
