ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing Enemy From An Array, Instance Still Is On Stage?

May 8, 2010

Alright, so really I am having 2 difficulties here.

1) When a bullet hits an enemy, if 2 zombies are beside eachother, the bullet hits them both -- How can I make it so the bullet can only hit one?

2) When an enemy has health of 0, it dies, I am trying to get the enemy to be removed from the array that the bullet searches through so it will no longer be affected by the enemy, but it doesnt seem to work, the bullet still hits where the enemy was, as if the enemy is invisible.

I have a ball (instance name is "ball") and if I hit the enemy ball (instance name is "enemy") it'll dissappear, and add 100 points. At the same time, I want them to multiply and get faster.The enemy has a follower code:

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (_root.ball._x>_x) {
_x += 2;[code]....

And the ball has a code that is secret because if I give it to you it'll spoil the game idea.The dynamic text box has an instance of "points".I have my mute sound control done and the ball you control done.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Way Of Removing Enemy Character Permanently

Jul 9, 2011

I am trying to remove an enemy after I kill them and I just started working with code in .as files. The enemy has it's own logic in a .as file and when I use removeChild, the movieclip is removed, but the logic continues to attack the main character (invisible).Is there a better way of removing the enemy character permanently. It kind of scares me that the method I use could just be leaving invisible movieclips on the screen as well.I've tried everything that I have used in previous games: removeChild(EnemyArray[i]);And this, which causes other problems with my code but removes the logic: EnemyArray[i] = null;But these still cause the problem.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Instance Of A Random 'enemy'

Nov 5, 2009

I am building a whack-a-mole game in AS3. I have the basic structure down but am trying to figure out how to have one instance of a random 'enemy' appear in one slot at a time. So there would not be a duplicate 'enemy' anywhere else simultaneously as well as only one instance can occupy a slot at a given time.Anyone have any suggestion on what direction? Array? for loop?

I need to remove every object that is part of an array from the stage. What I have right now only removes one of the objects.

this.removeChild(enemyList.splice(0)[0]);

I've tried several variations of this with either the same result or an error. Also, what is the zero in hard brackets for? I haven't seen that in many tutorials/explanations, but when I take it out, I get all kinds of errors.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing An Array (containing A Single MovieClip Multiple Times) From The Stage

What I am trying to achieve is to remove an array (containing a single MovieClip multiple times) from the stage alltogether, once you call an end public function. I can remove all the other Movieclips on stage (that are not in the array) using this.removechild(MyChild) The array is located in a package, calling another package where the MC is located, and put on stage with Event.ENTER_FRAME.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Make Enemy Array That All Follow Player?

Feb 12, 2012

I am working on a first person shooter game, however i dont know how to make all the enemies that get created, to all move towards the character every few seconds then moving randomly for a few seconds, with the frequency increasing as the enemies move closer to the player. Getting that part is easy enough, the problem is i dont know how to make each enemy be able to do anything really independantly. Since my game works in a an external AS file, i cant access any of the class variables from within the movieclip of the enemies. Is there a way i can do this?

i already have code which rotates and moves the enemy towards a given point, as well as random movement, what i dont know how to is access the variables of the main class from the movieclips of the enemies, and vice versa ive found a way to do this, however it means i have to out the movement code within the enemies, as well as collision code, and that just laggs the hell out of the game when there is 5 or more enemies.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Enemy Attack - Make The Enemy Pause When It Reaches The Character, Then Choose An Attack To Use?

Mar 18, 2006

I am currently making a game, similar to StreetFighter,where enemies will come on from the side and you fight them. Now i have the character movement and attacks fully scripted, and have made an enemy, and i make it move towards the character using:

onClipEvent(load){
movethy = 7;
scale = _xscale;[code].....

Now this works quite well and the enemy stops when it hits the character, but the problem is, it wont complete a full attack, instead it plays a few frames of the attack MC. Now i have every attack in a different MC (Frames 2-5) inside the Enemy MC. How can i make the enemy pause when it reaches the character, then choose an attack to use? From there i'll be on my way and can script the hittest and so forth.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing Eventlistener From Deleted Instance?

Jan 18, 2010

in my main I have a system that allowed certain classes to be loaded and unloaded. When I load Game.as, it contains a trace statement when you press the left arrow key. When I remove the game instance from the stage, and set it to null, I can still press left arrow key, and the trace will come up. If I then make a new instance of game, it traces twice with only 1 click. When I close/load another time it traces three times.

I very specifically set:

Code:
mainContent.removeChild(game);
game = null;

Even trace statements confirmed that the game was being nullified, and the trace still continued.

Actionscript 3 :: Use A Stage Instance Rather Than Calling 'stage'?

Oct 6, 2011

I would like to know if there is a reason that, within an AS3 class, I would want to do something like this:

var myStageInstance:Stage;
//within an arbitrary class
var myStageInstance:Stage = stage;
myStageInstance.addEventListener(MouseEvent, someFunction);

as opposed to something that I would normally do:

//within an arbitrary class
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent, someFunction);

There is no particular problem that I am looking to solve right now. I would just like to know if there is a reason to use one method over the other.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing Flv From The Stage?

Dec 15, 2009

I have a main. fla with navigation btns activated by GoToFrame actions. Some btns load content and some use the UI loader component.

I have one btn that calls a UI loader "loaderVideoGallery" which loads an external .swf inside that .swf is an flv player "flvPlayer".

This also works fine except after that button is selected and that swf is on stage no matter what button you call next the video stream from the flv does not stop, it continues to play.

The UI loader removes itself as you can see the other loaders come up on button presses but the video's audio still plays.

the UI Loader instance is "loaderVideoGallery" and the .flv player inside the external .swf is flvPlayer

I was told to use

MovieClip(loaderVideoGallery.content).flvPlayer.st op()

I would think that the logical place to put this code would be inside the btns where the EventListeners are, is that correct?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing Something From The Stage?

Oct 8, 2011

I am making a little drag and drop game where you click on a movieclip, which acts as a button. When the moviclip/button is clicked a duplicate of that same movieclip, only larger, is added to the stage. You then drag and drop it in a designated area on the stage.

I have that part of the code working fine. What I need is a reset button that removes the larger movieclip that was dragged. I am not sure how to do this.Below is my code that is working fine. In the code I am the movieclip instance is named "myMC" and its class is "MyMC".

myMC.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, moveMC);
function moveMC(e:MouseEvent){
var newMC:MyMC = new MyMC();

[code]....

I tried removeChild for (myMC); and that removed everything. I only want to remove the second larger duplicate movieclip "newMC".

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing A Value From An Array?

Apr 10, 2010

It's a simple self-checkout grocery thing and I want to list the items the user is "buying" after typing in the appropriate code, but I can't get it to stay at nine lines only in the dynamic text field. I was told to use array.shift() to get rid of the first value in the two arrays so that I have an easy way by keeping the arrays at nine values, but it doesn't seem to work right.. It'll get rid of the first value, but only once and it'll add a blank value and then continue happily adding to the length of the array. Google has failed me so far so I suspect it's something else in my code.[code]

IDE :: Removing Duplicate Value In An Array?

Oct 26, 2009

I have an array containing single alphabet in every index and some of them in the array are duplicates. I'm trying to pick an alphabet and if there is an alphabet in that array, I want it remove from the array.

so lets say if i have 3 "a" in the array, I want all 3 to be remove. But my function only remove one alphabet. How do i make it remove all 3?

Also another question is, if i reach the end of the array how to i remove it? if i use splice it doesnt seem that it will remove the last item in the array.

my code is very simple

for (var i:int = 0; i<alphabetArrayLength; i++) {
if (singleAlphabet_arr[i] == alphabetPicked) {
answer = singleAlphabet_arr.splice(i,1);
}
}
