ActionScript 3.0 :: Resize Browser - Flash Warning Message "THE RESOLUTION IS TOO SMALL"
Aug 5, 2010
How do you publish some movies like this. When you resize your browser, an alert message would say that "THE RESOLUTION IS TOO SMALL" something like that.

We have recently made a new Flash website for our company (URL...). The Flash module itself is 800 pixels tall. We have CSS that centers a div horizontally and vertically that's wrapped around the Flash module (you can see the source of URL...) and when someone is on a browser on a netbook or a smaller laptop (sub 15-inch, generally), they don't have enough vertical resolution (after the real estate used by the Windows start bar and browser toolbars) to see the entire site.Whether you view the html page I've made (again, at URL...) or you view the Flash module itself (URL...) the top of the Flash module clips off the top of the browser. (To see the problem if you don't have a small laptop, just don't maximize your browser window and shrink it's vertical height.)I understand why my CSS is behaving the way it is, due to the nature of the negative top margin, but is there any way to solve this issue?

I'm getting a Flash Builder warning message for multiple variable declarations of variable arr1 in the following AS3 [code]...
I could eliminate this warning with a few more if/else statements, but the code runs fine and I can't see why I should add complexity if the warning is acceptable. Would like to hear anyone else's opinion though if you think differently.
Assuming the warning is fine to live with, how to suppress the warning manually in Flash Builder? That is, only the warning for this example; other warnings must still be displayed.

I'm developing a Flex application that is designed for screen resolutions of 1280x1024 and more. In the rare case that a projector is used (which usually has a maximum of 1024x768 pixels) I'd like to scale down the application (currently I get lots of scrollbars and clipping).
I've already experimented with the application's properties scaleX and scaleY as well as stage.scaleMode. However, I couldn't quite figure out a way to
render the application without scaling when the application's width and height are larger than certain values use scaling when the width or height are smaller than certain values

Just want to find out something... I have a .swf video file which I open with the normal Adobe Flash player 10. What happens is that when I open that file in a smaller screen resolution there's some parts missing (cuts it off around the edges).
How can I resize the content to fit in any screen resolution?

how do you get actionscript to scale an swf so that its size is an equivalent ratio to the users computers screen resolution.i didnt really think flash and html worked like that.thought it was best to design with the size of users screen resolution inmind as well as boarders of whatever it is ur building

All I want is to create a line (which is part of a rectangle) with a certain height (60), which I can then resize to another height. This works if I do it by hand (or mouse ), but if I use AS3, the line (or whatever object I'm using) is too small. Not only that, but the bigger the enlargment, the bigger the difference! I have attached an .fla file that contains two examples:On the right a rectangle that is being created with AS3, on the left two lines, one is just a Drawing Object, the other one a copy of that and made into a MovieClip symbolach example will be enlarged (by 200px) and in each one you can see that this results in a gap between the end of the line and the control object (red). Also, I measured the length of the line and it is indeed to short.

i have this code that loads my large images on my site but it does not reduce them it shows the image with original resol only so if the user looks an image that's resol is 1600*1200 and their own screen resol is 1024*768 then they cannot see the images all part. so what i want is to implement a "reduce to best fit if their screen resol is lesser then the image resol" feature for this code. this is the code that loads the large movieclip
Code:
var mcl2:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var mcl_listener2:Object = new Object();
mcl2.addListener(mcl_listener2);

I recently had an error dialog popping up on a site of mine online. I just noticed one on a well known newspaper website. Are these new? Do they only pop up if you have flash on your machine or do all users see them? Jpeg of the error message from the newspaper site attached. with my site the movie ran perfectly when I did test movie. Online the error message popped up, clearing it caused the movie to display incorrectly. Running in Debug mode showed the error and I fixed it. So in some way the error message was useful. Thing is the site had run perfectly well before the error dialogs mysterious appearance, the error was probably there but had no effect.

I have encountered a problem with the "message" property of the "Error" class.The problem consists in the difference of the message text between the Flash Player of the Flash program and the Flash Player of the browser.I am using the "try, catch" statement to catch en error and afterward I display the "message" property of the error in a text field.In the Flash program, the text field displays the full error message, something like:Code:Error #1085: The element type "something" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</something>".But in the browser, it only displays the code, not the description of it as well:Code:Error #1085Is this an error ? Is there a way to go around this ?

So I have a Flex bar chart that resizes dynamically, and if I have only a few items, the height shrinks and the horizontal axis and label shrink along with it. If the height of the chart is small enough, the label shrink down to practically nothing. How can I enforce a minimum height for the axis itself? Or even a minimum font size for the labels? I've tried setting the font size on the axis renderer and the axis label renderer and Flex still wants to resize the labels how it wants.

I'm having a bit of a problem here. As per the title, my flash swf file works fine when tested from the IDE, but when I publish it and open it through the browser, the stage doesn't seem to resize along with the window.I post below a bare-bones example. The "back" movie clip should resize, only it remains at the starting dimensions
Code:
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.display.MovieClip;

Anybody has an idea how to accomplish something similar with the gallery in this website?
I have an XML gallery in my project that has pre-specified numbers of columns.
- How it could be possible to detect user's screen resolution (use of Event.RESIZE?) and according to this to change the number of columns - and of course rows?
Forgot to mention that I load records from a database so I am not aware of the total number of images...

Anyone knows a sample code/source, tutorial or example like this gallery: [URL] (resize the browser window to see the effect) What i want is a thumbnail gallery that shows more lines and/or columns according to user resolution (not is necessary to resize the images). It's the same idea when using HTML and creating a thumbnail list with <li> and "float:left".

I'm pretty new to Flash but working it out. Just one question: how does one make it so the Flash animation automatically resizes depending on the resolution of the user's screen? I made a site with a Flash video that looks perfect on my screen, but when my friend with a different resolution goes to it, evertyhing is out of whack..

I'm also completely new to flash and Actionscript 3 programming. I got Flash CS4 two days ago and i've already started work on a website by following various on line tutorials and I'm beginning to pick it up.One thing that I haven't been able to work out is how to make my site centre in the browser. My website consists of a 1000px by 700px stage. However it is simply white space for the right and left 150px in leaving the actual content in a rectangle in the middle, 400x700. Now when I test my movie in CS4 it renders perfectly in the centre of the screen with no issue. However when uploaded to my domain, it is always not central

My swf size is approximately 1000x700. If the browser size is smaller than this it needs to scale down but if it is larger I don't want it to scale. Just like this [url]...
I've tried publishing the Flash settings at Scaleefault(Show All) which scales it but I need to stop the scaling upwards at 1000x700.
I'd have thought that I could say in the html if (width<1024){scale;} and if(height<700){scale;}. But it's not working. Should it all be done in the html?

I'm a very new user to AS3 and I'm attempting to migrate a site from Flash CS3 to CS4 on a Mac. I keep getting the following compile warning: "Warning: Actions on button or movie clip instances are not supported in Action Script 3. All scripts on object instances will be ignored." This is very confusing to me. I thought that scripts could be attached to both frames and objects? Is this a bug that is a result of switching from versions? Or is this warning true; and I have to abandon all uses of attaching scripts to objects on the stage?
Also: Can anyone illuminate me on the keystroke to call the actions window in AS3? It is supposed to be the F9 function key and another that I can;t locate on my keyboard!? As I said,I'm a very new user, so be kind!!

I am having an application that uses the Drawing API to draw a graphic on the stage (using a fill color & alpha setting). This graphic is updated every 5 minutes. When publishing from within Flash all works fine, Except when I call the published HTML file, the 'fill' of the graphic is removed from the stage.

I was wondering how to achieve the native scrollbar effect which TheFWA (thefwa.com) has managed to do pretty well (I am not a fan of Flex scrollbars).and implemented the technique, as I am calling a JS function through ExternalInterface every time, when the flash object changes size. This JS function simply resizes the div which holds the flash object, which creates the native bars.Unfortunately, when I resize quite rapidly (from 800 to 1800 height, for instance) the flash object simply gets warped for several milliseconds (as if it hasn't changed its size, but simply got pulled in all directions). After these milliseconds, things get back to normal, but the whole situation is really visually annoying.
Originally I thought that it's simply a timing issue, but after a bunch of attempts to set a delay, the effect was the same ... just delayed.How can I resolve that? I know it's technically possible. Just take a look at TheFWA, and see how smoothly flash and the browser are communicating with each other to make the native scroll bars work, without any flickering, or mismeasurement
