ActionScript 3.0 :: Sha1 Hashing - Return The Raw Data As Opposed The The Hex Converted String
Jan 2, 2011
I've tried a couple different hash classes for as3. Right now I'm using the com.adobe.crypto package from [URL] What I need is a way to return the raw data as opposed the the hex converted string, similar the the way python's hashlib functions have a digest() and hexdigest() method. In python the code would be
...
single = sha1('some text').digest()
double = sha1(single).hexdigest()
...
In as3 using the following code returns a different hash because the return from the first hash is converted to hex before being hashed again.
...
SHA1.hash(SHA1.hash('some text'));

In AS3 I would like to set the key of a shared object with the contents of a string as opposed to specifically naming the key.
so.data.test = "andy" // this is the basic working system
I do not want to write test I want something like this
// this is a non working and incorrect solution but shows what I am trying to do.
String myKey = "test"
so.data.{myKey} = "andy"

I'm setting up a menu system powered by an XML feed that will have everything created dynamically (graphics, textFields, etc), and I've started pondering something...Since the menu will essentially be in list form, with each button stacked on top of the other, and since the titles will be passed as strings out of attribs in the XML, I was wondering if there was a way (there has to be) to essentially define a width of the text box, but leave the height open, allowing for multiline = true;, and then to dynamically draw the button graphic based off of either the height of the textField or the number of lines the textField uses.
Will this just be a matter of ordering, in that I won't actually draw the box until the textField has been set up, and the title passed to it? That way, the get height method would return the height of the box with the text in it, and I can adjust accordingly? Or should I try to base it off of the number of characters that will be passed to the box, and just set a limit via modulo or something else to "catch" when it goes to the next line (The problem I see with this is that not all characters are == when it comes to width. "i" < "e" in terms of character width, but they are both just single characters).
I would prefer to set something up that auto adjusts, as this list will be changed in the future, and I have no way of knowing if the titles will be a uniform/won't exceed a certain length. I could try to just "go big" to make room, but then you end up with boxes that look empty, and if I undershoot, I've got to go back to code.

I have the input textfield with instance name vIn, and the variable _vIn. (The textfield is empty.)[code]i have five other variable/textfield pairs were this works ok. I don't get why this pair doesn't work also, my textfields won't accept the subtraction operator, - , even though they're all set to vIn.restrict = "0123456789.-";It doesn't even work in the output textfields were there's no restriction (Negative results are displayed positive)

I have a somewhat complex parent/child hierarchy object that I need to display in a tree format that dynamically updates. To pass it into the tree as a dataprovider I convert the top level parent into an Array and then into an ArrayCollection. The problem there is if anything changes in the hierarchy the tree isn't dynamically updated unless I regenerate the dataprovider.
EDIT: I didn't have much code shown so I just tried to include the skeleton version of how everything is being used below, the tree works fine and even when I remove/add nodes the changes are evident but the vertical scroll bar isn't updated(doesn't resize) and if I scroll the tree will get out of whack and may display whitespace at the bottom of the tree where the item was just removed.
I tried just a plain bindable ArrayCollection test object with multiple levels and it updates properly so I think my tree is fine it's just how I'm trying to bind the dataprovider that I'm having the issues.

I've got a Gridcolumn in a Datagrid (Spark). The Column's dataprovider is a Number value that gets updated via Binding.Now, without an item renderer the cell displays the correct values.If I set an item renderer, I can't access the values in this renderer.My renderer looks like this, so nothing really do here (for now) but to trace the value, but the value is always NaN.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:GridItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" width="100%" height="100%" >[code].......
without the renderer, the column displays the correct values, so apparently the DefaultGridItemRenderer works fine.As requested, here is my Datagrid;
<s:DataGrid id="dataGrid" dataProvider="{_listItems}">
<s:columns>
<s:ArrayList>[code]..........
_listItems is an ArrayList with instances of a model class, which has (amongst others) a property called change of type Number.

I have an xml file (externally saved) that is similar to the following:
[root]
[main]
[title]...[/title]
[Code]....
What I like to do is to get what's in [title] tag using HTTPservice, import it into Flex, and save it as array objects, and do the same thing for [content]. This way I can later refer the array object saying title[0] or content[2].

I was trying to observe how some of the top browser game makers are implementing the asset management and also study their animation techniques. So I was trying to crack my browsers cache and share-object paths to peep into the assets.What I have noticed is that all the files are hashed or encrypted with unreadable names and all of them have .sol extension example somethingbigandunredable.png.sol or somethinglesebigandhugtring. swf.sol and so on.I thought they are just suffixed with .sol and just removed the .sol and tried to open the png but its neither showing the previw nor opening in the browser. Same with the swf file.So I was wondering if there is any way to peep into their assets. I am aware of swf decompiler tool (currently using) which can extract only the unecrypted swfs.

I'm trying to develop a Flex Mobile / PHP application, and I'm running into some trouble with the AsyncToken... Does it not just return a basic string?
For example... I'm wanting to just return a simple string result from my request - right now, it's going to return a basic output string from the method that's implemented. The backend part works (PHP), I've done all of that... It's this that's giving me some problems:
import mx.rpc.AsyncResponder;
import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;

Is there anyway to include a function or overrite something in a class that'll output a custom string when the object is called as a string?
So for example if I created a class named "myClass" and I instantiated it:
Code:
var myObject : myClass = new myClass();
When I:
Code:
TextControl.text = "blah blah, " + myObject;
myObject is getting casted as a string. Normally it would output:
"blah blah, [object myClass]"
Is there a built-in function that recast the object as string? Is there anyway for me to change that string output? I know I can just make a public toString() method in the class or something, but just wondering if there was something better.

I have a multiline textfield were users can type text. I split the text in words so I can compair them to see if they are a certain word. Some words don't pass the if statment even if they are the same (at leased to me). I found out it's because these words have a hard return in front of them. I need to remove the hard return, but I can't find out how. I tried to split the string on " ", but that doesn't work.

i'm trying to write a function but with no luck. seems my brain capacity's limited the function will take two parameters: a term to search for, and a string to be searched. what i want the function to return is a new string containing the term (the parameter) along with a couple of words before and after it (as found in the search string).

var bytes:ByteArray = new ByteArray;
bytes.writeInt(0);
trace(bytes.length); // prints 4
trace(bytes.toString().length); // prints 4
When I run the above code the output suggests that every character in the string returned by toString contains one byte from the ByteArray. This is of course great if you want to display the content of the ByteArray, but not so great if you want to send its content encoded in a string and the size of the string matters.Is it possible to get a string from the ByteArray where every character in the string contains two bytes from the ByteArray?

I am trying to communicate using this protocol. It works fine except when the socket has a lot of data to return. Right now I am checking if a packet ends with to determine if I have received all the packages. Problem is that sometimes a package can end with as a line break even if it is not the last package, so I can not use that.
I am using a command queue, because I want to wait for a complete response before sending the next command.
The code with unnecessary stuff removed:
class CustomSocket extends Socket
{
private var _response:String;
private var _commandQueue:Array;
[Code]....
The problem is in the function readResponse. I've googled a lot without finding anything of interest.
Is there a way to know the total amount of bytes/packets a socket will return? Or a way to detect EOF or that a package is the last?

We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.

I have a dropdown box that is used to select a Category. I need the Flash Application to send the value of Category plus the search string in my textbox to my Access query and return results for each product meeting selection criteria. The Flash Application is calling an ASP.NET web service which in turn queries an MS Access database.
To start, how do I define the category ID and search value in my Actionscript 3 code?I've placed a series of 12 or so objects that will be populated with the product description, title and price. How do I setup each field to be dynamic text associated with the title description and price from my query results? If there are more than 12 products returned by the query, how do I add an additional page of objects to house more than 12 query results?

I have encountered strange problem. I have created simple Flash text field control and I wanted to compare its content with some other string. This comparison in triggered when user is pressing the button.In Action Script 2.0 code I noticed that a caret return character () was added at the end of the string coming from the input text field.It is easy to overcome the problem obviously, however I would like to understand what is going on. I use Flash CS4 with AS 2.0.

I have flat data in my app which I will need to group, summarize, and count as I normally would with a sql query. For this project though, it must be done in the flex app. I need to figure out how to group my data by day or month using a datatime field in my Arraycollection, then appropriately count or summarize data in other fields. I've used Groupingcollections before, but only when binding to hierarchical controls (like AdvancedDataGrid and Tree), but I need a resulting ArrayCollection with the grouped and summarized data. Basically, I'm trying to access my AC like a sql table (GROUP BY MONTH(datetime), COUNT, COUNT(DISTINCT(), etc.) and I'm unsure how to do it.

I am attempting to build a generic XMLLoader class with a static LOAD method, with the intent to use it as follows...
private var _data:XML = XMLLoader.LOAD("path/to/xml_file.xml");
Then I could use it in any client and go-to-town with e4x.
The general problem I am having is with the URLLoader's COMPLETE event, which necessarily calls a different function to set the XML data.This is preventing me from being able to return the XML from the LOAD method, since the data is being set outside that function. Obviously I need to wait for the COMPLETE event in order to make sure the data is available.
I though, perhaps, I could create and return a _waitForData function, which recursively calls itself until the _data is set, then returns the data. But it seems redundant (since Event.COMPLETE is doing that anyway), and the way I tried it generates a stack overflow error.[code]...

I'm getting really annoyed by Flex. Is there a way to make it wait for an httpservice to get its data without having to use a timer?
At the moment my code looks like this:
protected function loginUser(event:MouseEvent):void
{
if(txtEmail.text == "" || txtPassword.text == "")
{
[Code].....
When I do user.login(), it sends a request with a HTTPservice from my external AS class. In the result event handler for this httpservice, I set a public variable to true or false, depending on whether the user's credentials are correctly in the DB.
I then use a getter to get that boolean value. However, without the timer, it always returns false because my code is faster than the event result handler. If that makes sense.
So I have to use a timer to stall my application for one second.. But seriously, that doesn't make sense to me. There has to be a better way, no?
