I'm creating a simulator for projectile motion and need some help with updating text boxes and locations of a ball. I have the code started and working for positioning the ball and updating the text boxes. However, they wait to update until my for loop is completed. So, I never see the position the loop has finished all 1000 iterations.

I'm Trying to develop a small game where the user chooses from a range of boxes of the left of screen and can drag 3 of them separatley to 3 holding boxes on ther right. each box can be dragged to any location and the order is not important. Once the 3 holding boxes are all full I want a new button to appear. I completed a tutorial and I've got one box working perfectly but no matter what i try I can't get it working with multiple boxes and locations. Below is a list of the instance names of the movie clips plus my actionscript. I've attached a link to the flash file.

View 3 Repliesball collision inside another ball using gravity.I have one large circle in the middle of the stage (its radius is 150 pixels). I have another circle inside of that one (20 pixels radius), this is the smaller ball that I would like to have bounce around inside of the larger one with gravity. When the small ball hits the edge of the larger circle, I would like it bounce inwards to the center of the larger circle. It keeps doing this until it eventually stops in the center of the larger circle at the bottom.

The code I'm building creates two MovieClips on the stage, in one it instantiates several text boxes and in the other some buttons.
What I can't do is access data from the text boxes (e.g. textField.text) for use in the functions called by the eventListeners attached the buttons. I had the system all working nicely before I placed the text boxes and the buttons on separate movie clips.but this structure makes it much tidier to refresh the text I'm using.The button functions are fine with variables created prior to the building of the text boxes.
Am I failing to address the text boxes correctly (because they're on another movie clip) or is there a stage / movie clip property I need to set so they can see each other ... or is this something else altogether?Could it be that the buttons are created before the text boxes?
i've found this code on the web that works well and migrating from as2 to as3?i just don't know what the equivalent codes are?

Is it possible to tell a text box to auto fit to its text? What I mean is that when i change the size of a font to something smaller the text box remains its old large self. This is a problem because when I want to align this text with several other text boxes that have gone through similar treatment, the alignment will take into account the full box size rather than just the text.
So basically I have to go and manually shorten each text box. Which is a pain when you have to deal with a lot of text. Is there a script or button/option I'm not aware of that will auto fit the box constantly?
I want to parse the data from an XML file into an array and then put each of the values in the array into a dynamic text box on the stage. The text boxes are name "number1_txt", "number2_txt" &c.I have managed to set up a loop to parse the XML into my array and also to generate the names of the text boxes dynamically but I can't get the values from the array to display in the text boxes!

I have some nested movie clips, with a dynamic text object at the end of the chain - if I don't update the the text in the dynamic text field, then it displays fine, however if I set the text at anytime through actionscript, the text disappears. I have tried all sorts of embedding/not embedding font - combinations, but nothing works.Here is a code snippet:

I have a couple of text fields in my Flash movie that are constantly updated with text from an xml document. The xml document is updated through an interface on a seperate swf. It's based on a flash guestbook I found and have hacked apart, and everything works fine in theory... My main worry is that over the course of a day it loaded in the text 170,000 times: 30 times a second which is a little excessive and is playing havoc with my web stats. I've cut this down to once every 10 seconds but I'm still thinking I should use a better method, would it be possible to test for changes before I load in new text, or am I going about this entirely the wrong way?

I've created a flash banner which loads 3 images. Each image is loaded using a Loader object. Each Loader object has an event listener which points to the same function. In this function I compute the loaded/total bytes, then I update a dynamic TextField.
The problem is that the TextField doesn't change its text only when all the images are loaded, which means at 100%. I used a trace for percent and it works fine. From what I've read until now, it seems that this can be caused by a lock-up of the UI?

View 11 RepliesI'm making a program that draws a grid of boxes and the color of the box must be different to those adjacent to the box. My code compares the current box's color to those to the left and top. If any of them matches, it picks another random number (as the color). For the tiles on the first row/column, I make my grid's array indexes with negative numbers -1 so that it will not match.

I am trying to work out a way to achieve the bouncing ball effect over text known from karaoke players? I would like this to be done programmatically with actionscript, so the ball follows the text and the soundfile (looking for pauses or DB rises?maybe not). I have heard its a question of finding the right algorithm? Its use will be in a language lab-like flash app based on Communication server, where the user can :
1) Hear the correct pronunciation of a sentence (with bouncing ball over text)
2) Record their own voice
3) Compare the two

Yet again, I have another simple problem. I have an input text field and a movie clip that contains a dynamic text field. The dynamic text field updates when the user types. Simple enough. However, when I add a frame to my main timeline and cut/past my mc on it, the dynamic text field doesn't update. Here is my simple .fla file showing what I'm trying to do.
View 3 RepliesI created a text area on my stage using the text tool, then converted it to a MovieClip symbol. I called it ScoreLabel and I clicked "Export for ActionScript". I named the instance of the text area scoreLabel. However, when I do this in my code:
scoreLabel.text = this.score;
it doesn't change. That line is in my Main.as file, which is the document class. How can I change the text shown in this text area using ActionScript? Maybe I need to import a library?
